What Are The Long-Term Effects Of Hydrocodone Use? In this informative video, we will discuss the long-term effects of hydrocodone use, a widely prescribed opioid pain medication. While hydrocodone can provide relief for moderate to severe pain, understanding the potential risks associated with prolonged use is essential for anyone considering or currently using this medication. We will cover various aspects, including the risk of dependence and addiction, cardiovascular complications, and the impact on bone health and immune function.
Additionally, we will explore how hydrocodone can affect sleep quality, leading to disorders that may worsen respiratory issues. Gastrointestinal side effects, particularly constipation, will also be addressed, along with the mental health implications such as cognitive impairment and mood changes.
Monitoring your health while using hydrocodone is vital, and we will emphasize the importance of regular check-ins with healthcare providers. They can help manage dosage and explore alternative pain management methods.
This video aims to provide a well-rounded view of hydrocodone use, so you can make informed decisions about your pain management. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more helpful information on pain medicine and management.

Correction to increasing bulk-forming foods for constipation:
"Increasing dietary fiber, fluid intake, and physical exercise are the backbone to prevention therapy... All types of laxatives can be used as initial therapy except for the bulk-forming laxatives... The only laxatives that should be avoided are the bulk-forming laxatives, like psyllium. These laxatives increase the bulk of the stools, distend the colon, and augment peristalsis. Opioids prevent peristalsis of the increased bulk which worsens abdominal pain and can contribute to bowel obstruction." - Opioid Induced Constipation (2021) - PMID: 29630236
**********************************
"When people think of opioid use problems or addictions, they may think of street-obtained, or 'street' opioids, such as heroin or fentanyl. However, problematic opioid use can also include improperly taking prescribed opioid medications such as oxycodone, morphine or codeine, or taking an opioid medication that was not prescribed for you.
Opioids are a class of powerful drugs that are usually prescribed to treat severe pain. If opioids are abused, they can create feelings of intense pleasure or euphoria, but they can also lead to fatal overdose. Opioids are an effective medication when used as prescribed, but they carry a risk of addiction because of their powerful effects.
If someone is overdosing, call 911 right away! You can then use your naloxone kit while you wait for medical help." - camh.ca - Opioid Addiction (Retrieved Oct 21/2021)

Oxycodone is one of the most widely prescribed opioid pain medications in the US. An opioid painkiller, it helps people live normal lives when used properly. When abused? It’s addictive, dangerous, and potentially lethal.
Millions of people got addicted to opioids due to the overprescription of oxycodone. In Patrick Radden Keefe’s Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty, oxycodone’s tragic history as a gateway drug is detailed.
Oxycodone addiction can lead a person to abuse stronger and more dangerous opioids like fentanyl. Opioid addiction can even be lethal. Don’t risk an oxycodone overdose! The Edge Treatment Center uses proven, evidence-based techniques to help people free themselves from drugs like oxycodone.
A better, happier life can be yours. If you want to learn more about our effective oxycodone addiction treatment program, please reach out to The Edge Treatment Center today at 844-590-0403 to learn more.

Hydrocodone – Side Effects, Uses, Mechanism of Action, Dosage, Interactions, Warnings
Hydrocodone is a prescription opioid used to treat moderate to severe pain, often combined with other pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. It is primarily prescribed for pain relief and chronic pain management, and less commonly, for severe cough suppression. Common brand names include Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, Hysingla ER, and Zohydro ER. Typical side effects include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and constipation, while serious side effects may involve respiratory depression, severe hypotension, seizures, dependence, addiction, and liver damage (especially with acetaminophen). Hydrocodone works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, inhibiting pain signal transmission, and suppressing the cough reflex. Dosages vary, with immediate-release tablets usually taken every 4 to 6 hours and extended-release tablets every 12 hours. Hydrocodone can interact with various medications and substances, increasing risks of severe side effects like respiratory depression and sedation. It has a high potential for abuse and addiction, and should be used under strict medical supervision, with special caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential harm to the baby, and awareness of liver damage risks from combination products.

Thiazide diuretics pharmacology nursing NCLEX review about the mechanism of action, side effects, nursing implications, and patient education.
Thiazide diuretics work to inhibit the sodium-chloride cotransporter (NCC) in the early part of the distal convoluted tubule. This will decrease sodium reabsorption...meaning less sodium will enter back into the blood. Instead, the sodium will stay in the filtrate. Therefore, this will cause more water to stay in the filtrate and less to be reabsorbed back into the blood…hence, leading to diuresis (increased urination).
Thiazides are used to treat hypertension, heart failure, and renal calculi that are composed of calcium.
Side effects of thiazides include hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypercalcemia, hyperuricemia, hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, and orthostatic hypotension.
Nursing implication for thiazide diuretics are monitoring for signs and symptoms of dehydration (low blood pressure, fast heart rate), strict intake and output measure, daily weights, monitor labs for electrolyte imbalances, avoid digoxin and lithium toxicity etc.
