Can Anti-Inflammatories Treat Depression? - New Research
Can Anti-Inflammatories Treat Depression? - New Research Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

NSAIDs stands for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. They are medications that treat inflammation in the body but are not steroids. These are drugs like ibuprofen or Motrin, naproxen or Aleve and celecoxib or Celebrex.

There’s been a growing body research showing that people who are depressed have higher levels of inflammatory chemicals in the body. Also people with infection and autoimmune disorders have an increased risk of developing depression.

Autoimmune means your body forms antibodies to your own tissues in your body. Examples of autoimmune disorders are rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus and multiple sclerosis. Even psoriasis, which is a skin disorder, is autoimmune. So groups of people with these disorders have been studied and we’ve seen a higher incidence of depression in these groups of people.

There was a 2019 study that analyzed several randomized control trials using anti-inflammatory medications to treat depression both as an add on agent and as the only medication used – we call this monotherapy. The results showed improvement in depression with the use of NSAIDs, with celecoxib rising to the top as the one used the most. The dose used was 200mg bid.

Here’s how the drug works. NSAIDs block the enzyme, cox-2 that makes prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that contribute to arthritis pain, fever, and pain caused by inflammation. With lower concentrations of prostaglandins, you have less inflammation, less pain and less depression. Celebrex blocks the enzyme that makes prostaglandins, so you get lower concentrations of prostaglandins.

We don’t have a complete understanding of how inflammation causes depression or vice versa. It’s not clear which comes first. So understanding this is a work in progress. And this is one reason using anti-inflammatory medications isn’t a mainstream recommendation.

Side effects
NSAIDs increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. And this is something that can happen anytime during the use of the medication and not just with chronic use. Even if you don’t get bleeding, you can get pretty serious stomach upset.

Also, many of the later NSAIDs like Celebrex and Vioxx cause an increase in strokes and heart attacks. In fact Vioxx was taken off the market in 2004 because of this problem. Celebrex has remained on the market but it and other NSAIDs have a black box warning about the risk of stroke and heart attack.

A black box warning is issued by the FDA and required to go on the package information. It’s a way to emphasize serious drug side effects to insure that you are informed of the risks.

Celecoxib (Celebrex) and other COX-2 Selective Inhibitors
Celecoxib (Celebrex) and other COX-2 Selective Inhibitors Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

We know that NSAIDs can inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. But these enzymes perform slightly different functions, and it seems that inhibition of COX-2 leads to the beneficial affects of NSAIDs while inhibition of COX-1 leads to the unwanted side effects. Well what if we could take advantage of slight discrepancies in the two active sites to inhibit only one enzyme and not the other? In fact it's been done! However, so far the results are not as promising as hoped. In fact, one such drug, Vioxx, was the subject of the largest drug recall in history. Let's get a closer look at this and other COX-2 selective inhibitors.

Celebrex
Celebrex Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug related to aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. Celebrex received its patent in 1953, gained FDA marketing approval in 1999 and became available as the generic celecoxib in 2014. More than 7 million prescriptions are written for the drug each year.

Generally Celebrex is reserved for arthritis – osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Approval also includes treating acute pain and dysmenorrhea related to the menses.

A newly released oral solution received FDA approval but only for acute migraine headache. The medicine performs only modestly better than placebo for migraines.
Recent investigations suggest combining Celebrex with a SSRI may benefit a select population with depression and if added to a mood stabilizer might lead to improvement in bipolar disorder.

Individuals allergic to sulfonamides should not receive Celebrex. A history of asthma worsened by aspirin also excludes Celebrex. After coronary artery bypass surgery, Celebrex appears to increase the risk of repeat coronary events.

Celebrex principally targets the COX 2 enzyme while other NSAIDS and aspirin reduce activity of both the COX 1 and COX 2 enzymes. Theoretically avoidance of COX 1 inhibition should reduce unwanted adverse reactions including intestinal bleeding and cardiovascular thrombotic events. In practice the differential while present remains anything but certain.

As a result, individuals should take the lowest dose for the shortest period of time in order to reduce the side effect profile. During the third trimester of pregnancy the drug must be avoided. In the first stages of pregnancy animal develop heart defects, skeletal malformations and stillbirth.

For pain relief, most of the NSAIDS appear about equal.

Celecoxib 200 mg Capsule: Benefits, Side Effects, and Usage Tips
Celecoxib 200 mg Capsule: Benefits, Side Effects, and Usage Tips Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

What is Celecoxib 200 mg capsule?.
Celecoxib 200 mg capsule is a medication commonly used to treat pain and inflammation. It belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and works by inhibiting the COX2 enzyme, which plays a crucial role in the production of prostaglandins – substances that contribute to pain and inflammation.
Celecoxib is available in the form of capsules, with each capsule containing 200 mg of the active ingredient. It is typically prescribed for conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute pain. Celecoxib can provide relief by reducing pain, inflammation, and swelling, allowing individuals to lead a more comfortable and active lifestyle.
It is important to note that Celecoxib 200 mg capsules should only be taken under the guidance of a healthcare professional. They will determine the appropriate dosage and duration of treatment based on your individual needs and medical history. Now that we have an understanding of what Celecoxib 200 mg capsules are, let's explore their benefits.
Benefits of Celecoxib 200 mg capsule.
Celecoxib 200 mg capsules offer a range of benefits for those suffering from pain and inflammation. Here are some of the key advantages of this medication:.
Effective pain management:. Celecoxib is known for its ability to provide effective pain relief. By inhibiting the COX2 enzyme, it reduces the production of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. This can result in improved mobility and quality of life for individuals dealing with conditions like arthritis or acute pain.
Reduced inflammation and swelling:. In addition to pain relief, Celecoxib also helps reduce inflammation and swelling. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, where joint inflammation is a primary symptom. By addressing inflammation, Celecoxib promotes healing and reduces discomfort.
Preservation of gastrointestinal health:. Unlike traditional NSAIDs, Celecoxib has a lower risk of causing gastrointestinal complications such as ulcers and bleeding. This makes it a preferred choice for individuals who may be at a higher risk of developing such complications or those who have a history of gastrointestinal issues.
Convenience and ease of use:. Celecoxib 200 mg capsules are available in a convenient capsule form, making them easy to swallow and administer.
These benefits make Celecoxib 200 mg capsules a popular choice for individuals seeking effective pain and inflammation management. However, it is essential to be aware of the potential side effects associated with this medication.
Common side effects of Celecoxib 200 mg capsule.
While Celecoxib 200 mg capsules offer numerous benefits, it is crucial to be aware of the potential side effects that may occur. Although not everyone experiences side effects, it is essential to monitor your body's response to the medication and consult your healthcare professional if any adverse effects occur. Common side effects of Celecoxib 200 mg capsules may include:.
Gastrointestinal issues:. Although Celecoxib has a lower risk of gastrointestinal complications compared to traditional NSAIDs, it can still cause stomach pain, indigestion, and diarrhea in some individuals. It is recommended to take the medication with food or milk to minimize the risk of these side effects. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to consult your healthcare professional.
Cardiovascular risks:. Celecoxib, like other NSAIDs, may increase the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke, especially when used for prolonged periods or at high doses. It is crucial to discuss your medical history, including any cardiovascular conditions or risk factors, with your healthcare professional before starting Celecoxib treatment.
Allergic reactions:. In rare cases, Celecoxib can cause allergic reactions such as hives, rash, itching, or swelling. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
Liver and kidney problems:. Celecoxib may rarely cause liver or kidney problems, including abnormal liver function tests or kidney damage. It is important to monitor liver and kidney function regularly while taking this medication and report any unusual symptoms to your healthcare professional.

Cetil 500 Tablet | Cefuroxime | Treating Bacterial Infection in Body After Surgery + Others
Cetil 500 Tablet | Cefuroxime | Treating Bacterial Infection in Body After Surgery + Others Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Disclaimer:- This video is for informational purposes only and not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please seek the advice of a physician or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Do not disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have watched on this channel.

Cetil 500 Tablet is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections in your body. It is effective in infections of the lungs (e.g., pneumonia), ear, throat, nasal sinus, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, bones, and joints. It is also used to prevent infections during surgery.

Cetil 500 Tablet should be taken with food to avoid an upset stomach. You should take it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for, but you should always complete a full course of this antibiotic as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it until you have finished, even when you feel better. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive and the infection may come back. It will not work for viral infections such as flu or the common cold. Using any antibiotic when you do not need it can make it less effective for future infections.

The most common side effects of this medicine include rash, vomiting, increased liver enzymes, nausea, and diarrhea. These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or last more than a few days. Cetil 500 Tablet is a versatile antibiotic medicine that kills the infection-causing bacteria in your body. This medicine is used to treat many different types of infections such as those of the lungs (pneumonia), ear, abdomen, urinary tract, bones, joints, skin and soft tissues. This medicine usually makes you feel better within a few days, but you should continue taking it as prescribed even when you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.

Pharmacology of Cefuroxime ; Pharmacokinetics, Mechanism of action, Uses, Effects, Antibiotics
Pharmacology of Cefuroxime ; Pharmacokinetics, Mechanism of action, Uses, Effects, Antibiotics Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Here are some key points about its pharmacology:

Mechanism of Action
Cefuroxime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis2. This leads to bacterial cell lysis due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes.

Spectrum of Activity
Cefuroxime is effective against a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Moraxella catarrhalis.

Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Distribution: Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids, including bronchial secretions, synovial and pericardial fluid, kidneys, heart, liver, bone, and bile.

Metabolism: Cefuroxime axetil (oral form) is hydrolyzed in the intestinal mucosa and blood to cefuroxime.

Elimination: The elimination half-life is approximately 1 to 2 hours in adults, but can be prolonged in cases of renal impairment.

Excretion: Approximately 66% to 100% of the dose is excreted unchanged in the urine.

Dosage and Administration
Adults: Typically, the dose is 250-500 mg orally every 12 hours or 750 mg intravenously/ intramuscularly every 8 hours.

Children: Dosage is adjusted based on body weight and the specific infection being treated.

Side Effects
Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), headache, and dizziness. Rarely, it can cause allergic reactions, including rash and anaphylaxis2.

Drug Interactions
Cefuroxime can interact with other nephrotoxic drugs, increasing the risk of kidney damage. It should be used cautiously with these medications1.

Indications
Cefuroxime is indicated for the treatment of infections such as acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, acute bacterial otitis media, sinusitis, skin infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and early Lyme disease

Cefuroxime axetil is a medication that belongs to a class of antibiotics known as cephalosporins. One of the most commonly prescribed forms of the medication is cefuroxime axetil 500 mg. This medication is available in both oral and intravenous formulations, and it is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.
One of the primary uses of cefuroxime axetil 500 mg is to treat respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, and pneumonia. This medication is particularly effective against bacteria known as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae, which are common causes of these types of infections. Cefuroxime axetil is also commonly used to treat more serious respiratory tract infections such as sepsis.
Cefuroxime axetil 500 mg is also used to treat urinary tract infections such as cystitis and pyelonephritis. This medication is particularly useful in cases where other antibiotics have been ineffective, as it is active against a wide range of bacteria, including those that are resistant to other antibiotics.
Additionally, Cefuroxime axetil 500 mg is also used to treat some types of skin and soft tissue infections such as impetigo, cellulitis and wound infections. It is also used to treat some types of bone and joint infections.
It's important to note that cefuroxime axetil is not effective against viral infections such as the common cold or influenza, and it should not be used to treat these types of illnesses. Additionally, like all antibiotics, overuse and misuse of cefuroxime axetil can lead to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Therefore, it is important to take the medication only as prescribed by a healthcare professional and to complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve before the medication is finished.
Overall, Cefuroxime axetil 500 mg is a powerful antibiotic that can be highly effective in treating a wide range of bacterial infections. However, it should be used only under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional, and it should be used judiciously to avoid the development of antibiotic resistance.

Cefuroxime Axetil: The Antibiotic You Need to Know About
Cefuroxime Axetil: The Antibiotic You Need to Know About Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

In a world where bacteria and viruses are constantly evolving, finding the right antibiotic can be a challenging task. However, when it comes to treating a variety of bacterial infections, Cefuroxime Axetil is the antibiotic you need to know about. This powerful medication is highly effective against a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. Cefuroxime Axetil works by inhibiting the growth and spread of bacteria, helping your body fight off the infection and get back to full health. As a skilled assistant who specializes in digital marketing, I understand the importance of reliable information when it comes to healthcare. In this video, we'll dive into the benefits of Cefuroxime Axetil, its mechanism of action, and how it can help you recover from bacterial infections quickly and effectively.
How does Cefuroxime Axetil work?.
Cefuroxime Axetil is an antibiotic that belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It works by inhibiting the growth and spread of bacteria by interfering with the cell wall synthesis. The cell wall is an essential component of bacteria that provides structural support and protects the bacterial cell from the environment. Cefuroxime Axetil binds to specific proteins on the cell wall, preventing the bacteria from building a strong cell wall. This results in the bacteria becoming weaker, making it easier for the body's immune system to fight off the infection.
Cefuroxime Axetil is a prodrug, which means that it is inactive until it is metabolized by the body. After oral administration, the medication is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and converted to its active form, cefuroxime. Cefuroxime is then distributed throughout the body, including the site of infection, where it helps fight off the bacteria.
What conditions can Cefuroxime Axetil treat?.
Cefuroxime Axetil is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against a variety of bacterial infections. It is commonly used to treat respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis. Cefuroxime Axetil is also effective against skin infections, such as cellulitis and impetigo, and urinary tract infections.
Additionally, Cefuroxime Axetil is used to prevent infections in people undergoing certain surgical procedures, such as abdominal, gynecologic, and orthopedic surgeries. It is also used to prevent infections in people who are at risk of developing bacterial infections due to weakened immune systems.
Dosage and administration of Cefuroxime Axetil.
Cefuroxime Axetil is available in tablet form and is typically taken two times a day with food. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the type and severity of the infection. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage and duration of treatment based on your medical history, age, weight, and other factors.
It is important to take Cefuroxime Axetil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking the medication or change the dosage without first consulting your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Cefuroxime Axetil side effects.
Like all medications, Cefuroxime Axetil can cause side effects. The most common side effects of Cefuroxime Axetil include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and headache. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own within a few days.
Less common side effects of Cefuroxime Axetil include allergic reactions, such as hives, itching, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. Other rare side effects of Cefuroxime Axetil include liver problems, anemia, and low platelet counts.

Precautions when using Cefuroxime Axetil.
Before taking Cefuroxime Axetil, tell your doctor if you are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics or have a history of liver disease. Cefuroxime Axetil should be used with caution in people with a history of kidney disease, as it can cause kidney problems in some people.
