- Cephalexin is a first-generation cephalosporin antibacterial. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins and disrupts or inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.

- It is available as 250, 500 and 1000 mg tablets. And also available as oral suspension.

- Cephalexin is used in the treatment of infections of respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and skin structures and bone; treatment of otitis media due to susceptible strains of specific microorganisms.

- The usual dosage of Cephalexin for:
Adults 1–4 g/day in divided doses (maximum 4 g/day).
Children 1 month to 12 years: 25 to 50 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

Generic name: Cephalexin.
Brand names: Keforal, Daxbia and Keflex.
Available as a tablet

How to use it?
Tablets: Swallow the tablet whole with half a glass of water. Don’t break it and don’t chew on it.
It is best to take it at an empty stomach and take it at fixed times.

Duration of treatment?
At least 10 days.
It is important that you do not interrupt the treatment and finish it completely.

When to use it?
Cephalexin is used for ”serious” infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive to Cephalexin.

What is the correct dosage?
Always use the dosage and frequency prescribed by your own doctor.
Generally the correct dosage is; 250-500 mg every 6 hours.

What are the side-effects?
Very common (more than 10%): diarrhea.
Uncommon (0.1–1%): stomach ache, dizziness, headache, fatigue, fever and a rash.

Safety:
It is safe to use Cephalexin with alcohol (in moderation), eat it with any type of food and drive your car while using this antibiotic.
However, cephalexin can have some interactions with other drugs and it can be dangerous for people with severe kidney or liver problems. Furthermore is also important you don’t use Cephalexin if you are hypersensitive to penicillins or carbapenems.

Pregnancy and Lactation:
The usage of Cephalexin while pregnant or while breastfeeding is safe. There is extensive medical experience which does not indicate any risks or problems, but always discuss this with your treating physician.

Citalopram is commonly known for its brand name Celexa or Cipramil and there are many brands out there in the market. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs) used to treat depression. Citalopram is also sometimes used to treat eating disorders, alcoholism, panic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and social phobia.

How to take Citalopram?

Take Citalopram at roughly the same time each day. if it makes you sleepy, take it at night time before you go to bed, if it makes you alert take it in the day. If you missed a dose, Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Do not stop taking Citalopram or lower the dosage, without checking with your doctor. Do not let yourself run out of medicine over the weekend or on holidays.

Continue to take citalopram even if you feel well. If you suddenly stop taking citalopram, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as mood changes, irritability... more in video

When your doctor and you decide that it's time to stop the medication, your doctor and pharmacist will guide you into slowly stopping the medication. Dependent on how long you have taken it for, it may take months to strategically slowly weaned it off. Everyone is different in terms of this time frame, adjust accordingly.

Like all medication, it comes with side effects. When a doctor decides to prescribe you a medication, he or she deems that the benefit outweighs the side effects. You can discuss with the doctor the benefit and the risk of taking citalopram.

Citalopram can take 1-6 weeks before you notice the full benefit and before that, you may experience some side effects such as dry mouth, nausea ...more in video

Tell your doctor immediately
- if you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life. In the event, if your doctor cannot be reached, call the ambulance or go to the emergency department of the hospital.

the symptoms are
- skin rashes that may include itchy, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin
- wheezing, tightness in the chest or throat

Notes of precautionary:
Citalopram can interact with many other medications, check with your pharmacist before taking any medication or supplements including those you bought without a script in the supermarket.

One very important thing to take note of is anti-depressants acts as a crutch to help you overcome things a little easier. While you are on this medication, it's crucial that you work on self-help, work towards changing the pattern you think, changing the way you communicate with yourself, so when you are off it, you are able to stand on your own. Listen to motivational speakers on topics of depressions, how to better yourself in life. Talk to your doctor about psychotherapy, go for counseling sessions, meditation, etc.

Lexapro or Escitalopram is a medication that is used to treat Depression and Anxiety. Get a Doctors perspective and learn the symptoms of depression and anxiety and how this medication can play a role in you treating it. Lexapro (Escitalopram) is in the family of medications called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI). They influence the amount of Serotonin that is available to help with mood and other functions of the body.

With depression you tend to have symptoms like difficulty concentrating, remembering things or making decisions. Fatigue, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness. People experience sleeping problems, mood swings, a loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed, appetite changes, generalized pain, persistent sad or empty feelings and even suicidal thoughts or attempts.

Those who are going through anxiety you may have symptoms such as sudden and unexplained onset of a rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, pain in your chest, fear of dying, numbness and tingling throughout your body or just a generalized feeling of anxiousness all the time that you just can’t explain.

If you are experiencing these symptoms you need to seek help from a professional. Go see your doctor and get an accurate diagnosis to figure out a good treatment plan for you. Remember depression and anxiety are real medical conditions and should be treated just as diabetes or high blood pressure need to be treated. You shouldn’t feel any different treating any one of these medical conditions.

We'll give a good overview in the video of the common side effects but its important to remember that most side effects if any are transient and can be minimized by working with your doctor. We will discuss more concerning side effects such as serotonin syndrome as well.

Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses Celexa (citalopram) which is a commonly prescribed SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) frequently used in the treatment of Depression and Anxiety Disorders. Celexa shares many side effects typical of SSRI's and SNRI's, but also carries an increased risk of QTc prolongation (a potentially serious change in one's heart rhythm or EKG), which resulted in its FDA approved maximum dose being lowered from 60 mg daily to 40 mg years ago.
