Levolin Plus Syrup is a combination medicine used in the treatment of cough with mucus. It thins mucus in the nose, windpipe, and lungs, making it easier to cough out. It also provides relief from runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.

Levolin Plus Syrup is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.

The most common side effects are nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting, muscle cramp, headache, skin rash, and increased heart rate. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. This medicine can also cause sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can make sleepiness worse.

Never support self-medication or recommend your medicine to another person. It is beneficial to have plenty of fluids while taking this medication. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. You should also tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you.

Ambroxol is a cough medication, which is successfully used in more then 50 countries, for more then 30 years.
Ambroxol is considered as mucolytic and expectorant drug. Which means, the drug breaks up phlegm, during bronchopulmonary diseases associated with abnormal mucus secretion and impaired mucus transport.
Ambroxol promotes mucus clearance, facilitates expectoration and eases productive cough.
Eventually patient breathes freely and deeply.
Ambroxol indications include:
All forms of bronchitis and tracheobronchitis, emphysema, chronic inflammatory pulmonary conditions, bronchiectasis, bronchitis with bronchospasm asthma. During acute exacerbations of bronchitis it should be given with the appropriate antibiotic.

Ambroxol starts working about 30 minutes after it has been taken. The breakdown of acid mucopolysaccharide fibers makes the sputum thinner and less viscous and therefore more easily removed by coughing.
Although sputum volume eventually decreases, its viscosity remains low for as long as treatment is maintained.

Ambroxol is shown to exert several activities: 1) secretolytic activity (i.e., promotes mucus clearance, facilitates expectoration, and eases productive cough); 2) anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity; and 3) a local anaesthetic effect through sodium channel blocking at the level of the cell membrane.
Ambroxol stimulates synthesis and release of surfactant by type II pneumocytes, a complex mechanism that is not yet fully understood. Surfactants acts as an anti-glue factor by reducing the adhesion of mucus to the bronchial wall, in improving its transport and in providing protection against infection and irritating agents.
Additionally, due to an increased number of substances that suppress viral replication and affect bacterial biofilm structures, including immunoglobulins A and G, ambroxol has also been associated with a protective effect against viral and bacterial airway infections. Ambroxol is also believed to act synergistically with antibiotics by increasing the concentration of antibiotics in the lungs when co-administered.
most Adverse Effects reported were mild and self limiting, such as insomnia, cutaneous rash, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Ambroxol is currently not approved for prescription or over the counter use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for any indication, at this time.

Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses tapering of benzodiazepines and other sedative medications, when a patient has taken them for long periods of time, and at escalating doses. Often patients are put on medications for sleep (with good cause), but providers and patients should always be considering whether the medication is doing more harm than good, or whether the medication can be decreased or tapered off. In his example, a patient's dose of Ambien had escalated to the point where they were physiologically addicted to the medication being in their system throughout the day (leading to withdrawal anxiety during the day, and leading to their night time doses).
