Video abstract of an original research "A Randomized, Open-Label, Bioequivalence Study of Lidocaine Topical System 1.8% and Lidocaine Patch 5% in Healthy Subjects" https://www.dovepress.com/a-ra....ndomized-open-label- published in the open access Journal of Pain Research by Jeffrey Gudin, Charles Argoff, Jeffrey Fudin et al.
Purpose: This study was designed to characterize drug delivery with lidocaine topical
system 1.8% vs lidocaine patch 5% through 2 PK studies.
Patients and Methods: Two Phase 1, single-center, open-label, randomized PK studies
were performed in healthy adults. In Study 1, 56 subjects received a single intravenous bolus
of 0.7 mg/kg of lidocaine as a lead-in to allow for the accurate determination of apparent
dose of both products. After a 7-day washout period, subjects were randomized to receive
either lidocaine topical system 1.8% or lidocaine patch 5% for 12 hours followed by another
7-day washout period, after which subjects crossed over to receive the other treatment for 12 hours.
In Study 2, 54 subjects were randomized to receive either lidocaine topical system
1.8% or lidocaine patch 5% for 12 hours. After a 7-day washout period, subjects crossed over
to receive the other treatment. Adhesion and skin irritation assessments were performed after application of the products in Study 2. In both studies, serial blood samples were collected to measure the plasma concentration of lidocaine after product application. Safety assessments and adverse events were monitored in both studies.
Results: The comparative PK analysis demonstrated that the two products, despite their
difference in drug load and strength, are bioequivalent. Both products were well tolerated. In
Study 2, dermal response scores (skin tolerability after removal) were similar between
lidocaine topical system 1.8% and lidocaine patch 5%, with a mean irritation score per
patch <1 (barely perceptible erythema), which is not considered to be clinically significant.
Conclusion: Bioequivalence was demonstrated between lidocaine topical system 1.8% and
lidocaine patch 5%. A comparison of the single-time adhesion scores at 12 hours in Study 2
favored lidocaine topical system 1.8% over lidocaine patch 5%. Both products were well
tolerated as a single application in healthy adult human subjects.
ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04144192, NCT04149938.

Early research suggests that up to 30% of thyroid patients currently taking thyroid medication may not need it. That's great and all but what does that mean for you? How can you tell if you are in that lucky 30%? Well, if you've ever wondered about that I've got some good news for you:
We have some signs that, if present, indicate that you have a higher likelihood of getting off of your thyroid medication. In addition to these positive signs, we also have some negative ones as well and today I'm going to go over both.
Before we jump in, you should be aware that this data is still emerging so it's subject to change as we get more information. If it does change then you can bet I will provide you with that updated information but, for now, this is what we have.
These positive signs indicate you have a higher likelihood of getting off and staying off of thyroid medication:
- If you've been using thyroid medication for less than 4 years.
- If you had a normal free T4 on diagnosis.
- If your current TSH is less than 1.8.
- If you are taking a low dose of thyroid medication (usually less than 50 mcg).
- If you are a woman (women are 2x more likely to get off their thyroid medication).
These are unfavorable signs:
- If you have a heterogenous thyroid on ultrasound.
- If you have positive thyroid peroxidase antibodies with diffuse echogenicity on thyroid ultrasound.
- If your TSH was greater than 8 at the time of diagnosis.
- If your treated TSH is greater than 9.
- If you were diagnosed at a young age.
- If you had a positive thyroglobulin antibody level at the time of diagnosis.
The presence or absence of any of these signs doesn't guarantee anything so don't get discouraged if you have a lot of negative signs and few positive signs.

T2 thyroid hormone, also known as 3,5 diiodo-l-thyronine, is gaining a lot of attention among thyroid patients, and for good reason.
As far as thyroid hormones are concerned, T2 plays a major role in regulating metabolism, cholesterol metabolism, and heat production, making it the ideal treatment if you are suffering from hypothyroid-related weight gain as well as high cholesterol.
For this reason, many thyroid patients are wondering if it's right for them and they've been asking a lot of questions:
Is T2 thyroid hormone safe?
What are the side effects?
And should I try it?
Well, this video is going to shed light on all of those.
First, we have no reason to suspect that T2 thyroid hormone is harmful because thyroid patients have been using it for over 70 years. This is because T2 is found in small amounts in NDT thyroid medications like Armour thyroid.
What about side effects? Based on the over 10,000 thyroid patients who have used my T2 supplement, here's what I've found:
Roughly 70-75% see some benefit when taking it. Roughly 5-10% see no discernable benefit and roughly 10-15% of patients see some minor negative side effect when taking it.
So, should you give T2 a try? That depends on how you are feeling.
If you are a thyroid patient who is currently feeling lousy despite taking your thyroid medication every day then, yeah, giving it a try may be a good idea.

Having trouble getting iodine supplements into your body? If so, this episode is for you. While most people who take iodine supplements will have absolutely no issues, there are a handful of people who may experience negative side effects.
But what causes these side effects? Why do some people react negatively to something that your body needs and uses on a daily basis?
Even though iodine is required to produce thyroid hormone, there are some situations in which it may result in unwanted symptoms.
There is always an answer for these symptoms, though, so don't blame iodine right away! Often, the cause is not iodine itself but other problems that already exist in your body.
Here are some symptoms that patients may experience while taking iodine supplements:
- Acne-like pustules
- Racing heart
- Sweating
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Changes to your weight
- Nausea
- Stomach pain
- Metallic taste in the mouth
- Joint pain or muscle pain
- Changes to your hair, skin, or nails
- Thyroid gland pain
- Swelling in the neck
- Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism
- Other symptoms of hypothyroidism
Iodine can have an impact on thyroid function so it shouldn't come as a surprise that some people who use iodine notice changes in their thyroid!
These changes can result in symptoms ranging from hyperthyroidism (rare) to worsening hypothyroidism (rare) and even detox reactions like acne from the elimination of halides.
The good news is that there is an explanation for these side effects and they aren't all bad.
Have you had issues in taking iodine supplements? If so, let me know below!

The side effects of stopping thyroid medication abruptly and why I never recommend this route. If you want to stop taking your thyroid medication then make sure to do it correctly and safely.
Is it safe to stop taking your thyroid medication? The answer is no for several reasons which I will explain here.
But first, we need to talk about why you are taking thyroid medication, to begin with.
Thyroid medication is prescribed to those people who are deficient in thyroid hormone (meaning their body isn't producing enough).
So if you were to stop taking your thyroid medication then your body would revert back to whatever it was capable of producing before you started taking thyroid medication.
This process usually results in certain symptoms including:
- Hair loss
- Weight gain
- Depression
- Increased pain
- Increased fatigue
- And other symptoms of hypothyroidism
But why do you experience these symptoms?
These 4 reasons will help you understand why you will most likely feel worse if you do:
#1. Your body may be reliant upon thyroid medication.
If you've had your thyroid removed or if it's been destroyed by radioactive iodine then you may not be able to produce thyroid hormone on your own. In this case, you will be required to take thyroid hormone.
#2. Your HPT axis may be blunted.
Taking thyroid medication blunts the normal HPT axis in your body and it can take weeks to months for this system to recover. During this period you will most likely feel very poorly.
#3. Your body may not be able to produce thyroid hormone by itself.
Conditions such as Hashimoto's damage the thyroid gland and even though you may be able to produce some thyroid hormone you may not be able to produce enough to sustain yourself.
#4. Thyroid supplements do not replace thyroid medication.
Lastly, you want to make sure that you use supplements to compliment your medication but not to replace it. Supplements can help improve natural conversion and production of thyroid hormone but they aren't as powerful as thyroid medications.

Do you feel like your thyroid medication just isn't working as it should? Do you still have symptoms of low thyroid even though you are taking your thyroid medication faithfully? It could be that your dose is just not high enough and that you need to increase it.
This problem is actually more common than you might think.
It's been estimated that as many as 25-30% of thyroid patients may be taking too much thyroid medication at any given time. We don't know the numbers for how many people are not taking enough but it's probably safe to assume that it's at least equal to the number of people taking too much.
This promotes a big problem for thyroid patients because you simply won't feel better if your dose is not sufficient.
The good news? There are ways to determine just based on your symptoms if your dose is too low.
Let's talk about those right now.
Signs that your thyroid medication dose is too low include:
#1. Gaining weight despite taking your thyroid medication every day
#2. Fatigue that is getting worse or doesn’t get better
#3. Hair loss that either gets worse or persists
#4. Continued constipation (may get slightly better or worse)
#5. Cold intolerance that persists
#6. Continued menstrual problems (may also get worse with some thyroid medication)
#7. Depression and/or anxiety that persists or get worse
#8. Pain in the joints/muscles
#9. Dry skin
Do you feel that your dose of thyroid medication is optimized? Or do you think it needs to be adjusted?
