Alopecia areata is a skin condition in which hair is lost from scalp or beard region leaving behind patches of hairless areas. It is an autoimmune disease, as hair follicles are attacked by the body's own immune cells.
Watch treatment of alopecia areata (spot baldness) by ILS (intralesional steroid) injections into the scalp. ILS injection used in this case contains a mixture of 2% Lidocaine (Lignocaine) and Triamcinolone Acetonide (synthetic corticosteroid). Lidocaine reduces post-injection pain while Triamcinolone Acetonide suppresses the immune system locally from attacking hair follicles present in that area.

Please note that I get a lot of requests and questions about what equipment is ‘best’ for treating a variety of conditions. The following is not meant to be an exhaustive or definitive list. Please use it as a starting point. If you have questions, please discuss with your healthcare provider. With that said, I have tried a number of the products below, but not all. I have included some based on positive feedback from many of my patients. As an Amazon Associate, Dr Peng earns from qualifying purchases. Triamcinolone (Triderm) is a topical (on the skin) steroid medication used to treat different skin conditions. It's available in many different formulations, including cream, ointment, lotion, and spray. There's also a dental paste formulation available that can be applied in the mouth to relieve pain from mouth sores. Triamcinolone shouldn't be used for a long time without your provider's approval because it can cause topical steroid withdrawal (TSW). In this video, Alyssa Billingsley, PharmD, walks through the details of this medication.

Advierte siempre a tu médico o farmacéutico si eres alérgico a cefalosporinas o a penicilinas.
