Fatal Side Effects

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a condition where the prostate enlarges, causing issues with urination in males. This is a very common medical condition that males have and is treatable with medications. In this video, I talk about the two most common medications used to treat BPH. Tamsulosin (Flomax) and finasteride (Proscar). They both are commonly used together in practice. Tamsulosin helps relax the muscles around the urethra and bladder which helps with the urinary incontinence. Finasteride shrinks the prostate to directly lessen the pressure causes by the enlarged prostate. I also discuss some important side effects of these medications that patients need to be informed on.

Within a healthy eye is a clear lens. As we become older, that lens becomes cloudy. The cloudy lens is called a Cataract. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant.
If someone has previously taken Flomax (Tamsulosin), it affects the ability of the pupil to dilate. With the advent of pupil expansion devices like the Malyugin Ring, removing cataracts in such patients has become much easier.

What are the side effects of prostate cancer radiation? In this short video, Steven G. Lester, M.D., F.A.C.R.O., a board-certified radiation oncologist, at Central Florida Cancer Care Center describes how prostate cancer patients can plan for radiation treatment.
“Today we're discussing will you lose your hair with prostate radiation?” says Dr. Lester. “And the answer is no because we're not aiming at your head. You lose hair with radiation based on where we aim, and I don't think I've ever had a patient complain of losing a little bit of pubic hair.”
“What you want to know is what are the side effects of prostate radiation,” Dr. Lester continues. “And they're really pretty minimal. After a couple of weeks, you'll notice your gland is a little irritated which results in a little more frequent urination and some urgency. Part of the urgency with our process is that we always ask our patients to come in with their bladder full. Therefore, you're drinking more fluids than usual, and you're going to have to empty (your bladder) more often. We usually can manage the side effects with a medication like Flomax if it becomes too symptomatic.”
“You get some bowel irritation from radiation, but now with the newer techniques using an IMRT IGRT, we treat less rectum, so you have less bowel irritation. You will get a little bowel urgency. You don't get diarrhea from prostate radiation because we only treat about a two-inch segment of the front of the rectum. Fatigue is common, but that fatigue is usually pretty minimal. You might need a cat nap after the fourth or fifth week every afternoon. I find the patients who are really tired have better tolerance to treatments because they are not trying to work 40 hours a week.”
“So those are the main side effects one sees during treatment,” Dr. Lester concludes. “We're always available during therapy to see our patients on any day if some side effects should develop, but what you should know is that you can continue with a normal lifestyle during treatment.”

Video description:
Dr. Kneller discusses discuses treatment strategies for atrial fibrillation. Considerations include rhythm control (stopping and preventing atrial fibrillation) and rate control (slowing down the rapid heart rate caused by atrial fibrillation, without attempting to restore a normal rhythm), and whether systemic anticoagulation medication (ie, Xarelto, Eliquis, Pradaxa, or warfarin) is needed. Anti-arrhythmic medications (ie, flecainide, propafenone, sotalol, tikosyn) or catheter ablation are used to restore normal rhythm.
How Effective Is Flecainide? In this informative video, we’ll provide an overview of flecainide, a medication used to manage specific abnormal heart rhythms. We’ll discuss how flecainide functions as a class IC antiarrhythmic and its primary applications in treating conditions like atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. You’ll learn about the effectiveness of flecainide in restoring normal heart rhythms, particularly in emergency situations, and how it works by blocking sodium channels in heart cells to stabilize heart rhythm.
Additionally, we’ll cover the factors that influence how quickly flecainide can show its effects and the importance of patient selection for this medication. Regular monitoring and follow-up are essential for ensuring safety and effectiveness, which we will also touch upon.
Understanding the role of flecainide in managing heart conditions can be beneficial for both patients and healthcare providers. Join us for this comprehensive discussion, and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel for more essential information on cardiology and heart health.

Are There Alternatives To Flecainide? In this informative video, we will discuss various alternatives to flecainide for managing heart rhythm issues. Flecainide is a commonly used antiarrhythmic medication, but it is not the only option available. We will explore different classes of antiarrhythmics, including class IA and class III medications, and their potential benefits and risks.
You will learn about other medications such as propafenone, amiodarone, dofetilide, and sotalol, each of which may serve as alternatives depending on individual health conditions. We will also touch on rate control medications like beta blockers and calcium channel blockers that play a role in managing atrial fibrillation.
