- In 3 minutes you'll learn about:
- What is Doxazosin Mesylate (Cardura 4 mg)?
- Doxazosin is an α1-Adrenergic antagonist, antihypertensive. It selectively blocks post-synaptic alpha-1-adrenergic receptors, resulting in dilation of arterioles and veins, resulting in decreased blood pressure.
- It also blocks adrenergic receptors in the neck of bladder and prostate, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation, and improved urine flow.
- So it is used in the treatment of hypertension, alone or in combination with other agents, and in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
- It is available as 1 mg, 2 mg, 4 mg and 8 mg immediate-release tablets. And as 4 mg and 8 mg extended-release tablets.

When you eat something loaded with sugar, your taste buds, your gut and your brain all take notice. This activation of your reward system is not unlike how bodies process addictive substances such as alcohol or nicotine -- an overload of sugar spikes dopamine levels and leaves you craving more. Nicole Avena explains why sweets and treats should be enjoyed in moderation.

We live in a world that is designed to stimulate our emotions. Every advertisement, food product and social media post is geared to give us a short rush of pleasure which is followed by an emptiness and a craving for more. Big companies are able to leverage our cravings and make trillions of dollars off of keeping us addicted. If you don’t have a plan for yourself, you will be at the mercy of companies who will play on your impulses to control you like a puppet. You will sacrifice your free will, searching for happiness in a maze that’s designed to keep you lost. Studies show that on average, people use their smartphones for about 3 hours per day [1,2]. That’s 1,095 hours every year. Thankfully there is a way to regain control over your impulses and take your power back through a practice called dopamine fasting.
Dopamine fasting is the idea that if you avoid dopamine stimulating activities for extended periods of time, you will be able to ‘reset your brain’ and let go of addictive behaviors that negatively impact your life. It’s commonly misunderstood as reducing dopamine, but that’s not true. Dopamine is necessary to function as a healthy human being.
Dopamine Fasting exploded in interest in October 2018 and gained even more interest a year later after Dr. Cameron Sepah published an article on Medium titled ‘The Definitive Guide to Dopamine Fasting 2.0: The Hot Silicon Valley Trend.
Dopamine fasting 2.0 is better defined. It’s based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. It’s about reducing impulsive behavior, not reducing dopamine itself. And it doesn’t encourage you to act like a full-blown monk who abstains from all forms of pleasure.

Dopamine, often referred to as the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, plays a crucial role in our emotional well-being. When its levels are balanced, we experience motivation, pleasure, and emotional stability. However, disruptions in this balance can lead to Dopamine Deficiency Syndrome (DDS), a condition associated with low energy, mood swings, and more.
This blog post explores the various causes behind DDS, shedding light on what triggers this syndrome and how to address it.
Causes of Dopamine Deficiency Syndrome:
Genetics and Family History: Genetic factors can influence how our brain receptors interact with dopamine. A family history of dopamine-related disorders may increase susceptibility to DDS.
Chronic Stress: Prolonged stress can disrupt dopamine production and reception, contributing to DDS symptoms.
Poor Diet and Lifestyle: Unhealthy diets high in sugar and processed foods, coupled with a sedentary lifestyle, can hinder dopamine production.
Substance Abuse: Drug and alcohol abuse can initially boost pleasure but deplete dopamine levels over time, leading to addiction and worsening DDS.
Medications and Health Conditions: Certain medications and underlying health conditions can interfere with dopamine regulation.
By understanding these causes, you can take proactive steps to manage and potentially alleviate Dopamine Deficiency Syndrome.
Genetics and Family History: A Predisposition to DDS
Genetic makeup plays a vital role in DDS susceptibility, particularly if you have relatives with dopamine-related disorders.

8:36 Learn more about the connection between your gut microbiome and neurotransmitters!
Let’s talk about dopamine.
Dopamine has many functions. It’s involved in body movement, sleep cycles, gastrointestinal motility, food intake, learning, kidney function, and blood pressure.
Dopamine is associated with behaviors and certain emotions. However, people on the lower end of the emotional scale aren't going to just have low dopamine but also other neurotransmitters and hormones. Dopamine is increased with pleasure, but it’s also increased with stress and pain.
Conditions related to low dopamine include:
• Parkinson’s
• Schizophrenia
• ADD or ADHD
• Depression
Medications used to treat the above conditions can deplete other neurotransmitters and have potential side effects.
Dopamine isn’t a single molecule that works on its own to create an effect. It’s a system that creates many different effects. Trying to increase dopamine without looking at the bigger picture isn’t going to work.
Here are some action steps you can take if you have low dopamine:
1. Get rid of artificial stimulus
2. Balance dopamine and other neurotransmitters
3. Consume a little more animal protein and fat
4. Support your gut microbiome
5. Get plenty of vitamin C (leafy greens or sauerkraut)
6. Get plenty of copper (shellfish or seafood)
Tips to help balance dopamine and other neurotransmitters naturally:
• Exercise consistently
• Get outside
• Get plenty of sun or vitamin D3
• Involve yourself in music or the arts
• Do things you like
• Get connected with other people
• Get plenty of tyrosine (consume high-quality animal protein)

For more information on Parkinson's or #YaleMedicine, visit: https://www.yalemedicine.org/c....onditions/parkinsons
The number of Americans living with Parkinson's disease is estimated to be about 930,000. There is currently no cure for this neurodegenerative disorder, but medications, exercise, and diet changes can help manage symptoms. While a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is unquestionably upsetting, "you can still live many years without a disability," says Yale Medicine neurologist Sule Tinaz, MD. Patients at the Yale Medicine Movement Disorders Program have access to the most advanced treatments and clinical trials for Parkinson’s disease. Their symptoms are thoroughly assessed before doctors create a treatment plan that will give them a good quality of life for as long as possible. Clinicians also understand that effective care goes beyond medication and surgery. Each doctor at the practice devotes considerable time to educating patients and caregivers.

Alzheimer's disease is a form of dementia primarily affecting elderly individuals, characterized by memory loss and cognitive impairment. It is genetically linked, and lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption and smoking can exacerbate its effects. The disease is caused by protein deposits that disrupt brain circuits, leading to memory and cognitive issues.
While there is no cure, management with drugs like donepezil, galantamine, and rivastigmine can improve memory, and anti-depressants may help with accompanying symptoms. Additionally, a focus on healthy lifestyle choices and physical exercise is crucial for patients. Accurate diagnosis is essential, differentiating Alzheimer's from other forms of dementia through clinical assessments and genetic testing. Subscribing to our channel will provide more information on this challenging condition.
