Which SLEEPING PILLS Work Best for SLEEP PROBLEMS | How To Treat INSOMNIA with Sleep Medication
Which SLEEPING PILLS Work Best for SLEEP PROBLEMS | How To Treat INSOMNIA with Sleep Medication Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

There are various sleep medications that help to treat insomnia but the questions is which is the best sleeping pill or the best sleep medication for insomnia?
Some sleeping tablets such as diazepam or zopiclone are only available on prescription while some such as Nytol or kalms are over the counter.

Some sleeping pills include:
Diazepam
Zopiclone, Zolpidem
Promethazine (Phenergan), Hydroxyzine (Atarax)
Amitriptyline
Mirtazapine
Nytol, Kalms

I have left out melatonin as it is only licensed in the over 50s in the uk. However, that will be covered in another video.

If you have sleeping difficulties, rather than rely on sleeping tablets, you should speak to your Dr as there are other treatment options such as lifestyle changes, sleep hygiene, sleep restriction therapy, CBT and others.
There might also be underlying problems causing sleep disorder that need to be tackled such as mental health problems like depression and anxiety, stress, or medical conditions like ADHD, sleep apnoea, arthritis, dementia and even menopause in women as well as aide effects of medications

Zopiclone and Eszopiclone are drugs used to combat insomnia. Zopiclone has existed for a few decades and Eszopiclone (often called Lunesta) entered the market in 2005. They are sedating substances and can cause hallucinations in some settings.

Zopiclone = Zimovane; Imovane

The Drug Classroom (TDC) is dedicated to providing the type of drug education everyone should have. Drugs are never going to leave our society and there has never been a society free from drugs.

Therefore, it only makes sense to provide real education free from propaganda.

TDC doesn't advocate drug use. Rather, we operate with the intention of reducing the harm some substances can bring.

ZOPICLONE (IMOVANE): Review-Uses-Side Effects- Mechanism of Action- Withdrawal- For Insomnia Anxiety

What is zopiclone used for?
Zopiclone is a type of sleeping pill that can be taken to treat bad bouts of insomnia. It helps you fall asleep more quickly, and also helps stop you waking up during the night. Zopiclone comes as tablets.

How does zopiclone work?
Zopiclone boosts the effectiveness of a chemical in the brain called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
GABA blocks transmission across nerves in the brain and has a calming effect.

Is zopiclone good for anxiety?
Zopiclone reduces day time anxiety; has low frequency of rebound insomnia.

What are the side effects of taking Zopiclone?
SIDE EFFECTS: Daytime drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, bitter taste, dry mouth, headache or stomach upset may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.

Is zopiclone a narcotic?
Zopiclone, sold under the brand name Imovane among others, is a nonbenzodiazepine used to treat difficulty sleeping. Zopiclone is molecularly distinct from benzodiazepine drugs and is classed as a cyclopyrrolone.

What does zopiclone do to the brain?
Zopiclone is a type of medicine called a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic. It acts in the brain to aid sleep. Zopiclone works by increasing the activity of a neurotransmitter called GABA in the brain.

Does zopiclone knock you out?
Mental effects Zopiclone helps you sleep, though users who manage to stay awake on it can feel drowsy and calm.

Is it okay to take Zopiclone every night?
You can take zopiclone with or without food. It's important to take it exactly as your doctor has told you. You could be asked to take a tablet on only 2 or 3 nights each week, rather than every night.

Who should not take Zopiclone?
Zopiclone 7.5mg tablets is contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis, respiratory failure, severe sleep apnoea syndrome, severe hepatic insufficiency and those people with a hypersensitivity to zopiclone or to any of the excipients. As with all hypnotics, Zopiclone 7.5mg tablets should not be used in children.

Why is zopiclone banned in US?
Lunesta 3 mg had an impairing effect almost as large as zopiclone 7.5 mg, a similar insomnia drug. Zopiclone, which is not approved in the United States, causes consistent psychomotor impairment such that it is often used as a positive control in driving impairment studies.

Does zopiclone make you tired the next day?
Precautions – while you are taking zopiclone
Extra care is needed when taking zopiclone because it can cause sleepiness and affect your concentration the next day.

Is zopiclone linked to dementia?
According to manufacturers' literature, memory loss has been reported shortly after taking zopiclone. The incidence of these reactions is known to be rare and may be more likely to occur in elderly patients.

What is a good substitute for Zopiclone?
Eszopiclone, a stereoisomer of zopiclone, is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic agent of the cyclopyrrolone family. Similar to zopiclone, eszopiclone is a synthetic compound shown to be effective in treating insomnia

What is the maximum zopiclone you can take?
Zopiclone is typically prescribed in the range of 5 mg to 7.5 mg daily and at 3.75 mg daily for the elderly. While zopiclone is a highly effective sleep aid, there is controversy about the extent of its addiction potential.

How long does Zopiclone 3.75 take to wear off?
The lowest effective dose should be used. Zopiclone should be taken in a single dose and not re-administered during the same night. Treatment with zopiclone should be as short as possible.

How many hours sleep with Zopiclone?
Zopiclone can affect your recent memory, especially if you do not go to bed just after taking it, or if your sleep gets interrupted. Make sure that you can get seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep if you are going to take zopiclone.

What happens when you stop taking Zopiclone?
Stopping zopiclone suddenly may cause withdrawal side effects. After taking zopiclone for insomnia, you may have difficulty sleeping (rebound insomnia) for the first few nights after you stop taking it.

What are the side effects of long term use of zopiclone?
Over the long term, zopiclone abuse can result in symptoms including chest pain; heart palpitations; nightmares; amnesia; abdominal pain; constipation; sinusitis; sore throat; dry mouth; lethargy; back pain; flu-like symptoms

Is it safe to take Zopiclone long term?
Zopiclone and some benzodiazepines, such as temazepam and triazolam, are indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Long-term use of these medicines should be avoided

What drugs interact with Zopiclone?
alcohol.
amiodarone.
anti-anxiety medications (e.g., alprazolam, clonazepam, lorazepam)

Zolpidem (Ambien): What You Need To Know
Zolpidem (Ambien): What You Need To Know Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Zolpidem is a widely used hypnotic that operates at the GABAa receptor. Compared to benzodiazepines, it produces less anxiolysis, muscle relaxation, and anticonvulsant action.

At medical doses, it produces little beyond sedation and the negative effects are mild. Due to personal variation, effects like euphoria, CEVs/OEVs, and anxiolysis are rarely noted at only 10 mg. Those effects appear more often (though still not reliably) at common to strong doses.

It is effective at improving sleep onset, though the instant-release version isn't very effective at maintaining sleep throughout the night.

Ambien Side Effects (zolpidem): A Comprehensive Guide to Safe and Effective Sleep Aid
Ambien Side Effects (zolpidem): A Comprehensive Guide to Safe and Effective Sleep Aid Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

What is Ambien and how does it work?. Ambien, also known by its generic name zolpidem, is a sedative-hypnotic medication primarily used to treat insomnia. It belongs to a class of drugs called non-benzodiazepines, which work by enhancing the effects of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA is responsible for reducing the excitability of neurons, thereby promoting relaxation and sleep.
The medication comes in different forms, including immediate-release tablets, extended-release tablets, and sublingual tablets. The immediate-release tablets help you fall asleep faster, while the extended-release tablets help you stay asleep throughout the night. The sublingual tablets dissolve under your tongue and are useful for those who have difficulty swallowing.
It's important to note that Ambien should only be used for short-term treatment of insomnia, typically for no more than 1 to 2 weeks. Prolonged use may lead to dependence and other adverse effects. Now that we have a basic understanding of Ambien, let's explore its common side effects.
Common side effects of Ambien.
While Ambien is generally well-tolerated, there are some common side effects that you may experience. These side effects are usually mild and temporary, but it's essential to be aware of them. Common side effects of Ambien include:.
Drowsiness:. Feeling excessively tired or sleepy during the day is a common side effect of Ambien. This can impair your ability to perform daily tasks and may pose a risk, especially when driving or operating heavy machinery.
Dizziness:. Some individuals may experience dizziness or lightheadedness after taking Ambien. It's important to be cautious when getting up from a lying or sitting position to prevent falls.
Headache:. Headaches are a common occurrence when starting Ambien, but they usually subside as your body adjusts to the medication. If headaches persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.
Nausea and vomiting:. Some individuals may experience gastrointestinal discomfort, including nausea and vomiting, as a side effect of Ambien. It is recommended to take the medication with a light snack or meal to minimize these symptoms.
Dry mouth:. Ambien can cause a dry sensation in the mouth, making it uncomfortable. Staying hydrated and sucking on ice chips or using artificial saliva products may help alleviate this side effect.
Changes in appetite:. Ambien may affect your appetite, leading to increased or decreased food intake. Monitoring your eating habits and discussing any significant changes with your healthcare provider is crucial.
Remember that these side effects are usually temporary and may improve as your body adjusts to the medication. However, if any of these side effects persist or worsen over time, it's important to consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Doctor explains Zolpidem | Uses, doses, side effects and more [Educational video]
Doctor explains Zolpidem | Uses, doses, side effects and more [Educational video] Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key things you need to know about zolpidem - a sleeping aid medication that is used commonly to treat insomnia.

Other names for Zolpidem are Ambient (the brand name).

Zolpidem takes around 1 hour to work.

You'll usually take it for a few days or weeks (up to 4 weeks). It's only used for a short period because your body gets used to it quickly. After a few weeks, it's unlikely to have the same effect. Your body can also become dependent on it. Therefore it's advised this is NOT a long term option for sleep issues.

Common side effects are a metallic taste in your mouth or a dry mouth, and feeling sleepy in the daytime.

Do not drink alcohol while you're on zolpidem. Having them together can make you go into a deep sleep where you find it difficult to wake up.

If zolpidem makes you feel sleepy in the daytime, do not drive a car, ride a bike or use machinery.

**‘Reporting of side effects**

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the package leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at [a website address which links directly to the MHRA Yellow Card site].

By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.’

What is Zolpidem?

Zolpidem is a medication used to start and maintain sleep. It is a doctor's prescription medication only.

Zolpidem comes in different forms such as immediate release, extended release, sublingual tablet where you place it under the tongue and spray
.
How to use it?
Depending on your age and condition, your doctor will prescribe you the most suitable dosage and form. It is usually taken just before bed. Follow the doctor's instructions carefully
on how to take it.

Usually, Zolpidem or any other medicines used to treat sleeping disorders are only for short-term use which is anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks. Continuous long-term use is not recommended unless advised by the doctor

Do not drink alcohol while you are on this medication. It can cause extra drowsiness. and excessive alcohol drinking actually causes sleeplessness in the first place.

Zolpidem may cause drowsiness the next day, if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.

Before you take Zolpidem, Tell your doctor if:
- you are allergic to anything.
- you drink alcohol
- you have any other medical conditions.
- you are on any other medication
- you are going to have surgery, dental treatment or anaesthetics
- if you are pregnant, likely to be pregnant or breastfeeding

Side Effects
All medications come with side effects. It is always a risk-to-benefit ratio that the doctor weighs when they prescribe you a treatment. Not everyone will experience side effects. So do not be alarmed by
it. You can find more side effects information in the leaflet that your pharmacist hands you. If anything worries you, speak to your doctor.

If you experience any sleepwalking which is very rare, you need to contact your doctor straight away.

Side effects information is there for your reference, so you know what to do if you do experience it. It is not there to scare you or to stop you from getting appropriate treatment.

I have made other videos about how to get better sleep, please do watch them as well, so you can gain more understanding about sleep and can sleep better

PCRI's Alex and Medical Oncologist Mark Scholz, MD, give a survey of newly diagnosed Gleason 4+3=7 prostate cancer in light of the recent introduction of PSMA PET scans into the staging process. Dr. Scholz discusses staging, treatment options, and the new ambiguity of whether hormone therapy is as important for this stage of prostate cancer if a person has a negative PSMA PET scan.

0:07 Why does Gleason 4+3=7 (a.k.a Epstein grade group 3) prostate cancer require treatment in most cases?

2:01 If a Gleason 4+3=7 patient has a negative PSMA PET scan, what should his next steps be?

3:27 How do the size and location of the tumor(s) factor into treatment decisions?

5:16 How would a patient find an expert practitioner of focal therapy?

5:39 Which side effects should a patient anticipate if they are undergoing radiation?

6:31 What are the side effects of a focal procedure like HI-FU?

7:36 Does Tulsa-Pro cause any scarring or urinary issues?

8:02 What are the survival rates for men with Gleason 4+3 prostate cancer?

8:45 Does the presence of seminal vesicle invasion affect the treatment protocol?

9:46 Does seminal vesicle invasion require the addition of hormone therapy to the treatment protocol?

10:50 Should patients have PSMA PET scans after treatment?

11:32 Why have you not discussed surgery yet as a possible treatment for Gleason 4+3?
