How soon do you feel the effect of Symbicort?
How soon do you feel the effect of Symbicort? Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

Symbicort is one of the inhalers which in the case of asthma can be used as both a controller and a reliever. This is because one of the medications contained in Symbicort, called formoterol, has a quick onset of action, usually 5-10 minutes. Formoterol acts as a bronchodilator - a medication which opens up the small airways to help you breath better.
However, Symbicort also contains another medication called budesonide which is a corticosteroid. This acts as an anti-inflammatory medication which helps control inflammation in the airways long term (hence the term controller medication). These two medications work together in the case of asthma.

Your medication Symbicort

Budesonide and formoterol is also known as the brand name: Symbicort.
It is most commonly used to treat asthma in patients over the age of 12 but can also be used to treat asthma in children. No matter how old you are, depending on the severity of your asthma, Symbicort is taken two inhalations twice daily with a maximum of four inhalations per day. It comes in inhaler form and is taken by pressing inhaler to release medicine into mouth and then swallowing.
Some common side effects of Symbicort are headaches and upper respiratory tract infection.
Some less common side effects are dizziness, abdominal distress, vomiting, influenza, back pain, bronchitis, and nasal congestion.
Symbicort is not a rescue inhaler, and does not replace fast-acting inhalers to treat acute symptoms.
Do not take Symbicort if:
• You need acute bronchodilation in COPD
While taking Symbicort, it is important to remember to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of the following:
• Signs of an infection
• Signs of high blood sugar (confusion, fatigue, increased thirst, increased hunger, flushing, fast breathing, etc.)
• Signs of low potassium (muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps or an abnormal heartbeat)
• Signs of adrenal gland problems (severe nausea, vomiting, severe dizziness, passing out, muscle weakness, etc.)
• Signs of lung problems
• Signs of allergic reaction (wheezing, chest tightness, fever, itching, bad cough, blue skin color, seizures, etc.)
Symbicort has a US Black Box Warning stating that it can increase the risk of asthma-related death.

What Are The Long-term Effects Of Using Budesonide? In this informative video, we will discuss the long-term effects associated with the use of budesonide, a corticosteroid commonly prescribed for various conditions such as asthma and microscopic colitis. We will cover how this medication works, its local anti-inflammatory properties, and why it is often preferred over other corticosteroids due to its lower risk of systemic side effects.

While budesonide can be effective, it is essential to be aware of the potential side effects that may arise from its use. We will highlight some common issues patients may encounter, as well as serious side effects that can occur with long-term use, particularly at higher doses. Additionally, we will address the implications of prolonged therapy for children and adolescents, including growth considerations.

Monitoring is a key aspect of managing patients on long-term budesonide therapy. Antimicrobial effects of Ticagrelor
Antimicrobial effects of Ticagrelor Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

My name's Chris, lets do Science.

Today I am bringing a letter that is hot off the press. #Cfibers. Here we are going to learn about a previously undocumented feature of ticagrelor. Hope you Enjoy!

Ticagrelor is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as platelet inhibitors. It works by preventing platelets in the blood from sticking together and forming clots, which can help prevent heart attacks and strokes in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease.

While Ticagrelor is not primarily prescribed for its antimicrobial effects, some research studies have suggested that Ticagrelor may have some antimicrobial activity against certain bacteria. For example, a 2016 study published in the journal Frontiers in Microbiology found that Ticagrelor could inhibit the growth of certain strains of Streptococcus bacteria, which can cause infections such as strep throat.

However, more research is needed to fully understand the antimicrobial effects of Ticagrelor and how they might be used to treat or prevent bacterial infections. It is important to note that Ticagrelor should only be used as directed by a healthcare provider for its intended purpose of preventing blood clots and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events.

Antibacterial effects of Ticagrelor paper:

Ticagrelor side effects, uses and benefits
Ticagrelor side effects, uses and benefits Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

Ticagrelor belongs to a class of medications known as P2Y12 inhibitors. It works by inhibiting the platelet activation and aggregation, which are crucial steps in the formation of blood clots. Unlike other P2Y12 inhibitors, Ticagrelor does not require metabolic activation in the liver, allowing for faster and more predictable antiplatelet effects. It achieves this by directly binding to the P2Y12 receptor and blocking its activation.
The unique mechanism of action of Ticagrelor makes it a potent antiplatelet agent, reducing the risk of thrombotic events in individuals with acute coronary syndrome. By preventing the formation of blood clots, Ticagrelor helps improve blood flow to the heart, reducing the chances of a heart attack or stroke in high-risk patients. This life-saving medication has revolutionized the management of acute coronary syndrome and has become a cornerstone in cardiovascular care.
Indications and uses of Ticagrelor.
Ticagrelor is primarily indicated for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome, which includes unstable angina and myocardial infarction. It is used in combination with aspirin to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death, in patients with acute coronary syndrome. The use of Ticagrelor in combination with aspirin has been shown to significantly decrease the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events when compared to aspirin alone.
In addition to its use in acute coronary syndrome, Ticagrelor may also be considered for long-term maintenance therapy in certain patients with a history of heart attack or stroke, or those with a high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events. However, the decision to continue Ticagrelor beyond the acute phase of treatment should be carefully weighed against the potential risks and benefits, taking into account individual patient factors and preferences.
Dosage and administration guidelines.
The recommended dosage of Ticagrelor for most patients with acute coronary syndrome is 90 mg twice daily. The first dose should be administered as soon as possible after diagnosis, with subsequent doses taken approximately 12 hours apart. Ticagrelor can be taken with or without food, but it is important to ensure regular and consistent intake to optimize its effectiveness.
It is crucial to follow the prescribed dosage and administration guidelines closely to achieve the desired therapeutic effects of Ticagrelor. Skipping doses or altering the dosage without medical supervision may increase the risk of cardiovascular events. If you have any concerns or questions about the dosage of Ticagrelor, it is recommended to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Potential side effects and precautions.
Like any medication, Ticagrelor can cause potential side effects. The most common side effects reported with Ticagrelor include bleeding, shortness of breath, dizziness, and headache. It is important to be aware of these potential side effects and to seek medical attention if they become severe or persistent.
Bleeding is the most significant side effect associated with Ticagrelor. This can manifest as easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or prolonged bleeding from minor injuries. In some cases, bleeding can be severe and may require medical intervention. Therefore, it is crucial to promptly report any signs of bleeding to your healthcare provider.
Ticagrelor should be used with caution in patients with a history of bleeding disorders, gastrointestinal ulcers, or recent surgery. It is also important to inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, as some medications may interact with Ticagrelor and increase the risk of bleeding or other adverse effects.
Drug interactions with Ticagrelor.
Ticagrelor can interact with certain medications, potentially affecting their effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements.
One of the most significant drug interactions with Ticagrelor is the use of strong CYP3A inhibitors, such as ketoconazole and clarithromycin.

Brilinta: What is Brilinta?, What is Brilinta used for?.
Generic name: ticagrelor.
Brand name: Brilinta.
Drug class: Platelet aggregation inhibitors.

Brilinta Warnings.
Brilinta Dosage.
Brilinta What to avoid.
Brilinta Side effects.
Brilinta Interactions.

What is Brilinta?

Brilinta (ticagrelor) prevents platelets in your blood from sticking together to form an unwanted blood clot that could block an artery.

Brilinta is used to lower your risk of heart attack, stroke, or death due to a blocked artery or a prior heart attack.

Brilinta is also used to lower your risk of blood clots if you have coronary artery disease (decreased blood flow to the heart) and have been treated with stents to open clogged arteries.

Brilinta is also used to lower your risk of a first heart attack or stroke if you have decreased blood flow to the heart.

Brilinta is also used to lower the risk of stroke and death in adults with a blockage or decreased blood flow in an artery that supplies blood to the brain.

This medicine is usually given together with low-dose aspirin. Carefully follow your doctor's dosing instructions. Using too much aspirin can make ticagrelor less effective.

Warnings:

You should not use Brilinta if you have any active bleeding (including a bleeding stomach ulcer), or a history of bleeding in the brain. Do not use this medicine just before heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).

You may need to stop using this medicine for a short time before having surgery or dental work, to prevent excessive bleeding. Do not stop taking Brilinta without first talking to your doctor, even if you have signs of bleeding. Stopping this medicine may increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Brilinta may cause you to bleed more easily, which can be severe or life-threatening. Avoid activities that may increase your risk of bleeding or injury.

Call your doctor or seek emergency medical attention if you have bleeding that will not stop. You may also have bleeding on the inside of your body, such as in your stomach or intestines. Call your doctor at once if you have black or bloody stools, red or pink urine, or if you cough up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. These could be signs of internal bleeding.

Many drugs (including some over-the-counter medicines and herbal products) can cause serious medical problems if you take them with Brilinta. It is very important to tell your doctor about all medicines you have recently used.

How should I take Brilinta?

Take Brilinta exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Brilinta is taken together with aspirin. Use these medicines exactly as directed.

Do not take more aspirin than your doctor has prescribed. Taking too much aspirin can make Brilinta less effective.

Take this medicine at the same time each day, with or without food.

If you cannot swallow a tablet whole, crush the pill and mix it with water. Stir and drink this mixture right away. Add more water to the glass, stir, and drink right away.

Brilinta keeps your blood from coagulating (clotting) and can make it easier for you to bleed, even from a minor injury. Contact your doctor or seek emergency medical attention if you have any bleeding that will not stop.

To prevent excessive bleeding, you may need to stop using Brilinta for a short time before a surgery, medical procedure, or dental work. Any healthcare provider who treats you should know that you are taking ticagrelor.

Do not stop taking Brilinta without first talking to your doctor, even if you have signs of bleeding. Stopping the medicine could increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Ticagrelor may affect medical testing for platelets in your blood and you may have false results. Tell the laboratory staff that you use Brilinta.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Dosing information:

Usual Adult Dose for Acute Coronary Syndrome:

Following an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) event:

Loading dose: 180 mg orally once
Maintenance dose: 90 mg orally twice a day for 1 year
Maintenance dose after 1 year: 60 mg orally twice a day

Comments:
-This drug should be taken in conjunction with a daily maintenance dose of aspirin 75 to 100 mg orally once a day.
-For at least the first 12 months following ACS, this drug is superior to clopidogrel.

Uses:
-To reduce the rate of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or a history of myocardial infarction.
-To reduce the rate of stent thrombosis in patients who have been stented for treatment of ACS.

What is Botox?

Botox injection is a prescription medicine that helps improve the appearance of facial wrinkles, and treats some medical conditions, by causing muscles to relax, as botox blocks nerve signals to the muscles.

Botox Cosmetic and Botox injections are both FDA-approved medicines, Botox Cosmetic is used to soften facial wrinkles, and Botox injections are used to treat medical conditions like chronic migraines, specific bladder issues, excessive sweating, and other muscle-related medical conditions.

The difference between Botox and Botox Cosmetic is they are different strengths once the vial has been made up, and they have different FDA-approved uses. Therefore they should not be used interchangeably.

Botox and Botox Cosmetic contain onabotulinumtoxinA, which is one of the botulinum toxins from the class of medicines called neurotoxins.

Other botulinum toxins FDA approved medicines are abobotulinumtoxina (Dysport), incobotulinumtoxina (Xeomin), daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm (Daxxify), prabotulinumtoxina (Jeuveau) and rimabotulinumtoxinb (Myobloc).

What are Botox Cosmetic and Botox used for?

Botox Cosmetic is used for:

Facial wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic is used (FDA approved) to help smooth facial wrinkles, specifically moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines (wrinkles near the outer corner of the eye), and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

Botox is used for:

Chronic Migraine. Botox is used to prevent chronic migraines in adult patients who have 15 or more headaches a month that last for 4 hours a day or longer. For migraines, botox can be injected into seven specific areas of the head and neck muscles. Results usually last up to 12 weeks, depending on the individual patient. Botox has not been established as safe or effective for the prevention of episodic migraine (14 headache days or fewer per month) in seven placebo-controlled studies.
Cervical dystonia. Botox is used in patients 16 years and older to treat cervical dystonia, which is a condition that causes your neck muscles to contract abnormally. This makes your neck twist and causes your head to tilt to one side, forward, or backward.
Muscle stiffness: Botox is also used to treat muscle stiffness (spasticity) of the arms, hands, legs, and feet in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. Spasticity is when there is an abnormal increase in muscle tone or stiffness of muscle, which can cause problems with movement and speech, or can cause discomfort or pain.
Eye muscle conditions. Botox is used to treat specific eye muscle conditions caused by nerve disorders in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. This includes uncontrolled blinking or spasm of the eyelids (benign essential blepharospasm), and a condition in which the eyes do not point in the same direction (strabismus).
Bladder issues. Botox is used in adults to treat overactive bladder and urinary incontinence (urine leakage) that has not been helped by other medication. Botox may be used to treat incontinence caused by nerve disorders such as spinal cord injury or multiple sclerosis. Botox is also used to treat the neurologic condition neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in pediatric patients 5 years of age and older. Botox is only used for bladder issues when patients have an inadequate response or are intolerant to an anticholinergic medication.
Excessive sweating. Botox is also used to treat severe underarm sweating (primary axillary hyperhidrosis) in adults.

How is Botox given?

Botox injections should be given only by a trained medical professional, which includes when used for cosmetic purposes.

This medicine is injected into a muscle by a healthcare provider. How often you have Botox injections depends on the condition being treated, Botox Cosmetic injections for temporary improvement in the appearance of facial lines should be spaced at least 3 months apart, and for treatment for other conditions, it may be up to at least 12 weeks between injections.

The effects of a Botox injection are temporary and your symptoms may return completely within 3 months. After repeat injections, it may take less and less time between injections before your symptoms return, especially if your body develops antibodies to the botulinum toxin.

You should not seek to have botulinum toxin injections from more than one medical professional at a time. If you do switch healthcare providers, it is important to tell your new provider how long it has been since your last botulinum toxin injection.

Using this medication more often than prescribed will not make it more effective and may result in serious side effects.
