7-Day Prednisone Treatment: Short-Term Prednisone Side Effects You NEED to Know
7-Day Prednisone Treatment: Short-Term Prednisone Side Effects You NEED to Know Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

📌Get your "Prednisone Checklist" today:
https://prednisonepharmacist.c....om/prednisone-wellne

This video outlines the short-term side effects of prednisone, a commonly prescribed glucocorticoid for inflammation and allergic reactions. While often considered safe for brief use, prednisone can still cause significant side effects, including hormonal disruptions, immune system changes, bone metabolism issues, and mood swings. The video stresses the importance of tapering and introduces a "Prednisone Checklist" to help viewers manage and recover from side effects safely.

Key Takeaways:
1. Short-term Side Effects: Even short courses of prednisone can cause hormonal, immune, and metabolic changes—dispelling the myth that brief use is risk-free.
2. Hormonal Changes: Prednisone suppresses the body’s natural cortisol production. Abruptly stopping it can cause fatigue, dizziness, or adrenal insufficiency, making tapering essential.
3. Immune System Impact: The medication alters white blood cell counts—elevating neutrophils while lowering eosinophils and lymphocytes—potentially masking infections and increasing the risk of severe illness.
4. Bone Health Concerns: Prednisone reduces bone formation and increases bone breakdown, even with short-term use, potentially affecting long-term bone health, especially with repeated courses.
5. Mood and Metabolic Changes: Patients may experience mood swings, anxiety, blood sugar spikes, and increased triglycerides, which can lead to complications like weight gain and insulin resistance. A downloadable "Prednisone Checklist" is provided to help manage these effects.

What is Tramadol and Why Is It Addictive? | Drug Education Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Tramadol is an opioid analgesic, prescribed primarily as medication used to treat moderate to severe pain, particularly back pain and chronic pain. It is also used to treat anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, restless legs syndrome, syringomyelia and vulvodynia.

Similar to other prescription pain medications, such as codeine, hydrocodone and morphine, tramadol works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain in order to block pain signals. Tramadol also acts on two major neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) in the brain—serotonin and norepinephrine—both of which affect pain perception.

Risk of side effects like nausea and dizziness attend tramadol use even when prescribed and consumed in the proper amount, and so should only be taken under a physician’s supervision.

Greater danger results from its abuse, altering its formation or exceeding the necessary dosage—inducing severe side effects, including the potential for overdose and death.

Abstract. Background Tramadol is a centrally
acting analgesic prescribed off-label for the
treatment of premature ejaculation (PE).
However, tramadol may cause addiction and
difficulty in breathing and the beneficial effect
of tramadol in PE is yet not supported by a high
level of evidence.

Though the body of evidence evaluating tramadol for a
sexual function is relatively small but uniformly
demonstrates that it is an effective treatment [16, 45,
50, 52,53,54,55] which supports our study participants'
claim the drug is effective for improving sexual
performance and treating ejaculation issues.

For this reason, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
(SSRIs), such as escitalopram (Lexapro), sertraline
(Zoloft), paroxetine (Paxil) or fluoxetine (Prozac,
Sarafem), are used to help delay ejaculation. Of those
approved for use in the United States, paroxetine
seems to be the most effective.

Prescription erectile function drugs include:
sildenafil (Viagra)
• vardenafil (Levitra)
tadalafil (Cialis)
Roman ED.

ACE Inhibitor Side Effects | Ramipril, Enalapril, Captopril, Perindopril | Causes and Why They Occur

ACE inhibitors (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors) are medications that are used for high blood pressure (hypertension), kidney disease, diabetes and heart disease patients. Some examples of ACE inhibitors (-pril medications) are ramipril, enalapril, captopril, and perindopril. ACE inhibitors act to lower blood pressure by inhibiting angiotensin converting enzyme, which is an enzyme that converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor, but it does have a variety of other affects as well. In this lesson, we discuss the side effects of ACE inhibitor use, including minor and mild side effects and very serious, life-threatening side effects.

Lisinopril. Side effects of this commonly used hypertension (blood pressure) medication. Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Understanding the Common Side Effects of Lisinopril (sold under the brand names: Zestril or Prinivil),

Welcome to our educational video by Dr. Lukasz Kiljanek, a Board Certified Nephrologist, Hypertension Specialist, and Internal Medicine physician.

Lisinopril a widely prescribed medication for high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure or kidney disease. While it is highly effective, it's important to be aware of potential side effects. In this video, we'll discuss common side effects.

Cough: Some people might experience a persistent dry cough while taking lisinopril. If you develop a cough, let your healthcare provider know. There are other medications that provide almost the same benefits as lisinopril but may not cause a cough.

Dizziness: Dizziness can happen, especially if your blood pressure lowers too much or if you are dehydrated.

High Potassium level: Lisinopril can cause your potassium levels to become high. Your healthcare provider will likely monitor your potassium levels, usually 3-4 weeks after starting lisinopril or increasing the dose of lisinopril to make sure potassium stays within a safe range.

Increased creatinine level: Creatinine level can go up, and this sometimes indicates that the medication is actually working. Blood work will be needed to monitor creatinine levels to ensure it remains within safe ranges, usually 3-4 weeks after starting lisinopril or increasing the dose of lisinopril.

Hair Loss (Alopecia): While not common, some people might experience hair loss, also known as alopecia, when taking lisinopril. If you notice hair loss, discuss this with your healthcare provider to determine the cause and explore alternative treatments if necessary.

Always notify your healthcare provider if you develop any side effects or have any concerns or questions about your medication. They can provide the best advice and support for your specific situation.

The NCLEX focuses on key differences between ACE inhibitors vs. ARBs, including their mechanism of action or mode of action, as well as the main side effects to watch for when giving these antihypertensive drugs. Since ACE's and ARB's prevent the action angiotensin 2 and aldosterone hormone, this results in a retention of potassium leading to hyperkalemia. For this reason, Ace inhibitors and Angiotensin receptor blockers are considered potassium-sparing medications.

Amoxicillin - Uses (Indications), Mechanism Of Action, Adverse (Side) Effects, And Contraindications
Amoxicillin - Uses (Indications), Mechanism Of Action, Adverse (Side) Effects, And Contraindications Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Amoxicillin is one of the most consumed antibiotics in the primary care setting.
It is an amino penicillin created by adding an extra amino group to penicillin to battle antibiotic resistance.
Amoxicillin belongs to the class of beta lactam antibiotics.
They act by binding to the penicillin binding proteins in bacterial cell walls, and inhibiting a process called transpeptidation.
Transpeptidation is the cross-linking process of peptides during bacterial cell wall synthesis, and it is essential for the replication & survival of bacteria.
So, inhibition of transpeptidation leads to cell wall lysis and death of the bacteria.
This type of action is called the bactericidal activity since bacteria get killed by the antibiotic.
Amoxicillin covers a wide variety of gram-positive bacteria, with some additional gram-negative coverage compared to standard penicillins.
Like penicillin, it covers most streptococcus species, and is also effective against listeria monocytogens, and enterococcus species.
It also covers Hemophilus influenzae, E coli, Actinomyces species, clostridium species, salmonella, shigella, and Corynebacterium species.
FDA approved indications of amoxicillin include the following.
Ear, nose, and throat infections such as tonsilitis, pharyngitis, and otitis media.
Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy in gastritis.
Acute bacterial sinusitis.
Skin infections.
Urinary tract infection.
And post exposure prophylaxis for anthrax.
Off label uses of amoxicillin include the following.
Lyme disease, if doxycycline is contraindicated.
Prophylaxis for infective endocarditis.
Periodontitis, in combination with metronidazole.
And actinomycosis.
Bactericidal antibiotics like amoxicillin are most effective when given in a time dependent manner rather than a concentration dependent manner.
Time dependent refers to the time that serum concentrations of the drug exceed the minimal inhibitory concentration for the microorganism.
Therefore, these drugs are dosed more frequently.
Amoxicillin is only taken per orally.
It is available in immediate and extended-release tablets.
It also comes as a chewable tablet or a suspension.
Common adverse effects of amoxicillin include the following.
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea.
Superinfection, especially with candida species and clostridium difficile.
Nephrotoxicity.
Hepatotoxicity.
And hypersensitivity reactions like rash, and in more serious situations, anaphylactic shock.
Amoxicillin is safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Nakalagay naman sa mga “packaging insert” ang mga dapat malaman ngunit hindi sa lahat ng oras ito ay nababasa at hindi lahat ng pasyente/mamimili ay nakakakuha nito.
