Your Medication Phentermine

Phentermine is also known by the brand name: Adipex P.

Phentermine comes in 15, 30, 37.5 mg capsules, and 37.5 mg tablets and should be stored at room temperature in a dry place.

Phentermine is most commonly used to treat obesity. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, phentermine is taken by mouth once daily. Take all forms before breakfast or 1 to 2 hours after breakfast. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

Some common side effects with phentermine include high blood pressure, headache, dizziness, restlessness, and increased heart rate.
Some less common side effects include constipation, unpleasant taste, dry mouth and unable to get to sleep at night.

Do not take phentermine if you have a history of cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, a history of drug abuse, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
While taking phentermine, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you:
• Have signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, tightness of the chest, etc.)
• Experience behavioral changes
• Experience chest pain, increased heart rate, tremors
• Have severe headache
• Have swelling of the arms or legs
• Start taking new medications, vitamins, or supplements

Medications that can be dangerous for dementia
Medications that can be dangerous for dementia Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Welcome to the place where I share dementia tips, strategies, and information for family members caring for a loved one with any type of dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy Body dementia, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, etc.)

In today’s video, I talk about medications that are commonly prescribed to people with dementia even though they can be extremely dangerous. These medications have something called a Black Box warning meaning that the FDA has determined that these medications have high rate of serious negative side effects. If someone with dementia has some "difficult" behaviors, it is not unusual for one of these medications to be prescribed. You can learn more about these medications and their side effects in this video so you can be more informed when you talk to your loved one's doctor.

Here's a link to my behavior playlist that goes over all the non-medication ways to respond to difficult dementia behavior. Even if someone with dementia is prescribed a medication for behavior, you will want to consider using these approaches as well:

The Dangers of Long-Term Nasal Decongestant Spray Use
The Dangers of Long-Term Nasal Decongestant Spray Use Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Topical decongestants are typically used to relieve nasal congestion due to allergic rhinitis, acute or chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps, or upper respiratory tract infections. However, long-term use of these nasal decongestants can cause rebound swelling of the nasal mucosa. This is called Rhinitis medicamentosa. And is classified as a subset of drug-induced rhinitis. The earliest nasal decongestants mainly derived from ephedrine showed rhinitis medicamentosa developing as early as 3 days after use and up to 4 to 6 weeks after use. All pharmacists therefore advise patients not to use decongestant sprays for more than 2 weeks.

Oxycodone vs Hydrocodone: Which Drug is the Best for PAIN?
Oxycodone vs Hydrocodone: Which Drug is the Best for PAIN? Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Are you experiencing pain that’s affecting your daily life? Not sure which pain medication to ask your doctor about? Join Pharmacist Michael as he compares two commonly prescribed pain medications: oxycodone and hydrocodone. In this video, you'll learn about their effectiveness, side effects, and special considerations to help you make an informed decision. Plus, we’ll cover some natural pain relief methods to complement these medications.

🔍 Key Points:

Effectiveness: Oxycodone is more potent, making it suitable for severe pain but with higher abuse potential. Hydrocodone is effective for moderate to severe pain and is often combined with acetaminophen.

Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, drowsiness, constipation, and dizziness. Oxycodone can cause more intense euphoria and severe constipation at higher doses.

Acetaminophen: Hydrocodone is available only in combination with acetaminophen in the US. Excessive acetaminophen can cause liver damage, so caution is needed.

Natural Pain Relief Methods: Explore physical therapy, hot and cold therapy, massage, acupuncture, mind-body techniques, diet, and supplements to complement your pain management plan.

🚨 Special Considerations:

Allergies and medical history should be discussed with your doctor before starting any medication.

Be mindful of drug interactions, especially with grapefruit juice, alcohol, and certain antidepressants.

📞 Consult Your Healthcare Provider:

Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine which medication is best for your particular condition and pain management needs.
