Doctor explains METOPROLOL (Lopressor) | Uses, Doses, side effects & more [Educational video]
Doctor explains METOPROLOL (Lopressor) | Uses, Doses, side effects & more [Educational video] Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key facts you need to know about Metoprolol - also known by its brand name 'Lopressor' - a medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart problems and migraine.

What is Metoprolol?

Metoprolol is a type of medicine called a beta blocker. Like other beta blockers, metoprolol works by changing the way your body responds to some nerve impulses, especially in the heart. It slows down your heart rate and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body.

What doses of Metoprolol / Tablet Strengths and Uses are available?

Metoprolol is available in 50mg and 100mg strengths, used for treating high blood pressure, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, migraine prevention, and thyrotoxicosis, with varying dosages specific to each condition.

Administration Guidelines

Metoprolol an be taken with or without food, tablets should be swallowed whole with water, and some can be split in half if indicated. The first dose might be recommended at bedtime due to possible dizziness, otherwise taken in the morning, with evenly spaced doses if multiple are required daily.

Duration and Discontinuation

Metoprolol treatment is typically long-term, potentially lifelong. Stopping abruptly can worsen the condition, so a doctor's guidance is needed for cessation. The medicine takes 1 to 2 days to leave the body after stopping.

Overdose Risks and Actions

Overdose effects vary but can include slowed heart rate, breathing difficulties, dizziness, and trembling. Immediate medical advice is necessary if an overdose occurs. Bring medication packet and any remaining pills to the emergency services.

Are there any side effects of metoprolol?

According to the NHS UK website "Metoprolol is generally safe to take for a long time. In fact, it works best when taken for long periods of time."

Ursetor 150mg Tablet | Uses, Side Effects, Dosage, Review

Ursetor 150mg Tablet is a liver health supplement that contains ursodeoxycholic acid, primarily used for managing gallstones and primary biliary cirrhosis, a condition involving damage to bile ducts in the liver. It is also effective for liver diseases associated with cystic fibrosis in children aged 6 to 18 years. By working to detoxify the liver and enhance its function, this medication helps reduce cholesterol production in the gallbladder, facilitating the dissolution of cholesterol-based gallstones. It is vital that Ursetor is used under medical supervision, as it may not be recommended for individuals with certain medical conditions, including allergies to bile acids, calcified gallstones, or blockage of bile ducts. Common side effects include soft stools and diarrhea, which should be monitored closely. For optimal results, consult your doctor for the appropriate dosage and duration of therapy.

Latuda Review and Side Effects
Latuda Review and Side Effects Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

I wanted to make this video for those of you that are on or thinking about taking the medication Latuda. It is usually used for bipolar depression, however my nurse practioner thought that it would be a good idea to use as a supplement with my Lexapro for my depression.

I had no real benefits from Latuda, but I was only on it for three weeks. I had a horrible side effect with intense leg pain right around my calves. It was like having a painful restless leg syndrome.

I am not a doctor in any way, but please do some research on this medication before taking it.

My channel is Gaming With Depression and it focuses around two major things: video games and depression. As someone who has major depressive disorder, playing video games is a way for me to cope. I also enjoy making let's plays because it helps me work on my speaking and it pushes me out of my comfort zone to actually do something when I'm depressed. I also talk a little about my depression and medications I take, but I don't go into major details. I hope that you enjoy my videos and channel!

Acetaminophen Side Effects and Mechanism of Action

This is a super simple way to learn pharmacology faster and easier in nursing school, step by step. It will help you understand how Acetaminophen actually works inside your body, the critical thinking and WHY behind the side effects, so you can start applying what you are learning. That way on your nursing school exams, you will be able to critically think and work thorough those NCLEX style questions.

Acetaminophen mechanism of action: The true MOA is not fully understood, but it is thought to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins which are the main component responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever within the CNS. It is thought that acetaminophen only affects the prostaglandins in the CNS not systemically which is why it does not help with inflammation.

Acetaminophen side effects: Most side effects occur from IV form of Acetaminophen. GI upset can happen when taking acetaminophen. Increased LFT's can occur because the liver is where acetaminophen is metabolized. A Rash or Stevens-Johnson Syndrome can happen with hypersensitivity reactions.

If you want a deep dive into all the other medications you need to learn in nursing school, don't miss the medication database we have for you inside the NursingSOS Membership Community. You are going to be an outstanding nurse! Keep up all the hard work, friend, you are doing great!

1:35 Natural steroid protocol

In this video, I want to tell you about a potential alternative protocol for steroids. The side effects of things like prednisone, cortisone, steroids, anti-inflammatories, or anything related to the synthetic form of cortisol can have a lot of side effects.

Many people have inflammatory conditions. When a person takes a synthetic form of cortisol, over time, it can work less and less to the point where it doesn’t work anymore.

Cortisol is made by your adrenal cortex. Cortisol is the natural anti-inflammatory in the body. It suppresses the immune system.

To make cortisol, you need the cofactor vitamin B5, and vitamin C. Vitamin D can also help cortisol work better. If you have cortisol resistance, vitamin D may help reset that.

A natural potential steroid protocol for a severe inflammatory reaction:
1. Vitamin B5 — 500mg
2. Vitamin C (buffered and non-GMO) — 1000mg
3. Vitamin D3 — 10,000 IUs

A. You may want to take this combination every 15 minutes for 2 hours.
B. Then, take this combination every 2 hours for the rest of the day.
C. After that, if needed, take the protocol twice a day.

This protocol is meant to help naturally calm things down as you do things to correct the situation like getting on the keto and intermittent fasting plan.

Pharmacology of Hyoscyamine-Methenamine ; Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects
Pharmacology of Hyoscyamine-Methenamine ; Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Hyoscyamine-Methenamine is a combination medication used primarily to treat urinary tract symptoms. Here's a detailed look at its pharmacology:

Mechanism of Action
Hyoscyamine: This is an antispasmodic agent that works by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, which helps relax smooth muscles in the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. This reduces spasms and discomfort2.

Methenamine: This compound is hydrolyzed in acidic urine to produce formaldehyde, which has bactericidal properties. It helps control bacterial infections in the urinary tract1.

Methylene Blue: This component has weak antiseptic properties and helps maintain an acidic pH in the urine, which is necessary for methenamine to work effectively.

Sodium Phosphate Monobasic: This maintains the acidic pH in the urine, ensuring the proper breakdown of methenamine.

Indications
Urinary Tract Symptoms: Used to treat symptoms of irritative voiding, such as urgency, frequency, and discomfort.

Lower Urinary Tract Infections: Provides symptomatic relief and helps manage hypermotility and spasms associated with infections.

Dosage and Administration
Adults: Typically, one tablet or capsule is taken four times daily.

Children: Dosage must be individualized and should be administered under medical supervision.

Administration: Should be followed by liberal fluid intake to ensure proper hydration and effectiveness.

Side Effects
Hyoscyamine: Dry skin, blurred vision, constipation, and tachycardia.

Methenamine: Dysuria, discoloration of urine (blue), nausea, and gastric upset.

Contraindications
Hyoscyamine: Hypersensitivity to hyoscyamine or related compounds, closed-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, and severe gastrointestinal obstruction.

Methenamine: Hypersensitivity to methenamine, severe renal or hepatic insufficiency, and concurrent use of sulfonamides or acetazolamide

Dr Bhatti reviews side-effects of Finasteride and discusses about the negative propaganda by non-medicals against Finasteride/Propecia.

Side-effects of Finasteride especially sexual side effects of Finasteride do exist but they are not so big an issue that a person with hair loss should not take the advantages that go with its use.

Dr Bhatti prescribes Finasteride to those patients who are fit to take this medication but after deep counseling to rule out underlying hypogonadism, proclivity to erectile dysfunction and psychological status.

By following Dr Bhatti's protocol, doctors can decrease the incidence of side effects from Finasteride and get optimal results even with low doses.

Dr Bhatti discusses how to mitigate the side effects of Finasteride when Finasteride is prescribed judiciously.
