This video explains how certain proteins cause inflammation in the intestines.
REMICADE® (infliximab) helps to control the symptoms of moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in people who haven't responded well to other therapies.
The immune system normally protects the body from unwanted and dangerous invaders, such as disease-causing bacteria. In people with Crohn’s disease, the immune system attacks the GI tract and releases a protein called TNF-alpha, resulting in inflammation and the symptoms of Crohn’s disease. Scientists believe that REMICADE® works by binding to and blocking TNF-alpha.
Only you and your doctor can decide if treatment with REMICADE® is right for you. REMICADE® can cause serious side effects, such as lowering your ability to fight infections. Some patients, especially those 65 years and older, have had serious infections caused by viruses, fungi or bacteria that have spread throughout the body, including tuberculosis (TB) and histoplasmosis. Some of these infections have been fatal. Your doctor should monitor you closely for signs and symptoms of TB during treatment with REMICADE®.

Infliximab is a type of medicine called a monoclonal antibody. It works by suppressing part of the immune system and modifying the process of inflammation.
Infliximab is used to treat multiple forms of arthritis, as well as plaque psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, and active ulcerative colitis.
Monoclonal antibodies are manufactured antibodies that are specifically designed to recognise and bind to unique proteins in the body. Infliximab works by binding to and preventing the activity of a specific protein produced by the body, called tumour necrosis factor alpha. This protein is involved in producing inflammation. It controls the activity of other inflammatory chemicals.
By preventing the activity of this protein inflammation is decreased.

Do NSAIDs Help With Gout Pain? In this informative video, we'll discuss the role of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in managing gout pain. Gout is a painful form of arthritis that can cause sudden and intense discomfort, particularly in the big toe. NSAIDs are often a go-to option for alleviating this pain during acute gout attacks. We will cover how these medications work to reduce inflammation and ease discomfort, along with some commonly prescribed NSAIDs like ibuprofen and indomethacin.
We will also address the benefits of NSAIDs, including their effectiveness and accessibility for immediate relief. However, it is equally important to consider the potential risks and side effects associated with their use. This video will highlight the gastrointestinal issues that may arise from long-term or high-dose NSAID use, as well as the need for caution in individuals with certain health conditions.
For those who may not tolerate NSAIDs, we will briefly touch on alternative treatment options, such as colchicine and systemic glucocorticoids. Lifestyle changes can also play a role in managing gout, and we will touch on some helpful tips.

Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used to reduce pain, inflammation, and fever. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is involved in the production of prostaglandins, substances in the body that cause inflammation and pain.
Here is a comprehensive explanation of Indomethacin:
Indomethacin works by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). There are two isoforms of COX - COX-1 and COX-2. COX-1 is involved in maintaining normal bodily functions, while COX-2 is induced during inflammation. Indomethacin inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2, leading to a decrease in the production of prostaglandins.
Indomethacin is used to alleviate pain, inflammation, and fever associated with conditions such as arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis), gout, bursitis, tendinitis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also sometimes used to close a patent ductus arteriosus in premature infants.
The dosage of Indomethacin varies depending on the condition being treated. It is available in various forms such as capsules, suppositories, and oral suspension. The dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on the individual's condition and response to treatment.
Common side effects of Indomethacin include gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain, indigestion, and ulcers. It can also cause dizziness, headache, and skin rashes. Long-term use of Indomethacin can increase the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke.
Indomethacin is contraindicated in individuals with a history of allergic reactions to NSAIDs, aspirin-sensitive asthma, peptic ulcers, bleeding disorders, and severe heart failure. It should be used with caution in individuals with kidney or liver impairment.
Indomethacin can interact with other medications such as anticoagulants, corticosteroids, and certain blood pressure medications. These interactions can either decrease the effectiveness of Indomethacin or increase the risk of side effects.
Indomethacin should be used with caution during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, as it may cause complications in the fetus. It can also pass into breast milk, so nursing mothers should consult with their healthcare provider before taking Indomethacin.
Regular monitoring of kidney function, liver function, and blood pressure is recommended during long-term use of Indomethacin to detect any potential side effects or complications early.
In conclusion, Indomethacin is a widely used NSAID that effectively reduces pain and inflammation. However, like all medications, it should be used with caution and under the supervision of a healthcare provider to minimize the risk of side effects and complications.

The video contains a simple and visual explanation of how bendroflumethiazide and indapamide, both thiazide diuretics, work to encourage the kidneys to excrete more water and sodium. We cover some basics about how the nephron works and look in detail at the action of thiazide diuretics on the thiazide sensitive sodium chloride co transporter molecule in the distal tubule of the nephron. We also talk about the indications, some practical tips on using thiazide diuretics, adverse effects and contraindications.
