Understanding the Common Side Effects of Olmesartan (brand name: Benicar, which is registered trademark),
Welcome to our educational video by Dr. Lukasz Kiljanek, a Board Certified Nephrologist, Hypertension Specialist, and Internal Medicine physician.
Olmesartan a widely prescribed medication for high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure or kidney disease. While it is highly effective, it's important to be aware of potential side effects. In this video, we'll discuss common side effects.
Cough: Some people might experience a persistent dry cough while taking Olmesartan. If you develop a cough, let your healthcare provider know. There are other medications that provide almost the same benefits as Olmesartan but may not cause a cough.
Dizziness: Dizziness can happen, especially if your blood pressure lowers too much or if you are dehydrated.
High Potassium level: Olmesartan can cause your potassium levels to become high. Your healthcare provider will likely monitor your potassium levels, usually 3-4 weeks after starting Olmesartan or increasing the dose of Olmesartan to make sure potassium stays within a safe range.
Increased creatinine level: Creatinine level can go up, and this sometimes indicates that the medication is actually working. Blood work will be needed to monitor creatinine levels to ensure it remains within safe ranges, usually 3-4 weeks after starting Olmesartan or increasing the dose of Olmesartan.
Always notify your healthcare provider if you develop any side effects or have any concerns or questions about your medication. They can provide the best advice and support for your specific situation.

How to use olmesartan medoxomil?
This medication is neither a beta blocker nor an ACE inhibitor. It is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It is used in the treatment of hypertension. The right dose depends on many factors. Typically, it can be started at a low dose of 20 mg. Later it can be used at a dose of 40 mg.
Olmesartan can affect your kidneys and can induce acute renal failure. It can also increase oliguria and azotemia. Angioedema is another important effect produced by this medication. Hypotension produced by olmesartan can be increased by salt depletion and low body volume.

The prescription blood pressure medication Benicar (generic name olmesartan) has been linked to serious gastrointestinal side effects, including damage to the lining of the small intestines. Learn more from David Henson of HensonFuerst Attorneys.
For more information, visit our website at http://www.lawmed.com/. And don't forget to watch our other videos at http://www.youtube.com/hensonfuerst/.
(Principal office of Henson & Fuerst, PA: 2501 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607)
The blood pressure medication with the generic name olmesartan has been prescribed to millions of people, either as a generic, or under one of the brand names of Benicar, Benicar HCT, Azor, or Tribenzor. But the FDA has issued a warning about the safety of Benicar following reports of severe gastrointestinal side effects—often referred to by doctors as sprue-like enteropathy.
Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker, a class of drugs that treat high blood pressure. But this is the only drug of its type linked to sprue-like enteropathy. This GI condition can cause severe, chronic diarrhea and rapid weight loss, due to damage of the lining of the small intestines. Other possible side effects are abdominal pain, anemia, fatigue, vitamin deficiencies, mouth ulcers, and vomiting.
It can take months or years for symptoms to become apparent. That’s why it can be difficult to make the association between taking Benicar and experiencing symptoms. Once symptoms begin, even doctors don’t always make the connection, and often misdiagnose drug-induced enteropathy as celiac disease or irritable bowel syndrome.
If you take Benicar and experience GI symptoms requiring a doctor’s care, or were diagnosed with sprue-like enteropathy, we want to help. First, DO NOT stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor. Work with your doctor to find an alternative to control your high blood pressure. Next, find out if you may be entitled to compensation for your medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering as a consequence of taking Benicar. Call HensonFuerst at 1-800-4-LAWMED for a free consultation, or visit our website at lawmed.com for more information.

WBIR has received questions from people on Facebook asking if they should be worried about taking the drug. Some have also expressed doubts about whether the drug is effective at all.
Our colleagues at WBIR 10News spoke to experts at UT Medical Center to verify the facts about Tamiflu. Pharmacist Brian McCullough specializes in infectious diseases and says Tamiflu is an effective treatment to slow the spread of flu.

Dr. Peter Coleman, who is Board-certified in Addiction Medicine and has been in recovery from opioid use himself since 1984, discusses whether someone's brain can fully heal from years of benzodiazepine use. This is a question we often see from subscribers to our TikTok and YouTube channels.
-Safe, Comfortable Outpatient Detox
The Coleman Institute for Addiction Medicine has been a leading outpatient addiction treatment center since 1998. Our innovative withdrawal management programs, often referred to as The Coleman Method, have helped thousands of people free themselves from addiction to Alcohol, Opioids, and Benzodiazepines. Originally founded in Richmond, Virginia, our network has expanded to cover 14 cities across the US.
-3 - 8 Day Opioid Detoxification Process
For short-acting opiates like oxycodone, most patients complete their detox and begin Naltrexone therapy within 5 days. Longer-acting opiates like Suboxone and Methadone typically take 8 days. Our standard opioid treatment package in Richmond, VA, Wellesley, MA (Boston area) and Willoughby, OH (Cleveland area) includes the detox and 6 months of case management and Naltrexone therapy. As a non-addictive opioid blocker, Naltrexone dramatically reduces cravings so that patients can focus on their recovery. We have a 98% success rate for completing detoxification and starting Naltrexone therapy. During the detox, we work with patients and their families to develop an appropriate aftercare plan. We also offer a convenient, 3-day outpatient alcohol detox and a Rapid Benzodiazepine Detox.
-Caring, Empathetic Environment
Dr. Peter Coleman understands first-hand the challenges our patients are facing due to his own personal struggle with the disease of addiction. He has been in long term recovery since 1984. Dr. Coleman has dedicated his career to treating addiction patients and creating a team and an environment conducive to long term recovery for his patients.

I am Phils Bipolar Disorder (Fight Club ref) and I was recently diagnosed. This is my bipolar story.
-
I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 with mixed features and rapid cycling and OCD a few months ago after over a decade of having symptoms.
If you don't know me personally, feel free to share with people you think might want to see this.
I was sent to the psychiatric hospital where I was diagnosed and during my time at the mental hospital, I didn't really believe the diagnosis and thought that I was just needed to work on my depression but eventually I realized that I was indeed manic and that's when I really started paying attention to my bipolar disorder.
