Does Ashwahandha Have Side Effects? What to know before you take it
Does Ashwahandha Have Side Effects? What to know before you take it Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

As a top Adaptogen Ashwagandha is mostly used to support healthy cortisol and healthy thyroid function in men and women. Ashwagandha can also help improve sleep & relaxation, neuroprotection, and cognitive function.

https://lostempireherbs.com/pr....oduct/ashwagandha-ti

Does ashwagandha have side effects? And if so what are they? That's what we're going to be talking about in this video.

Hey, I'm Logan Christopher from Lost Empire Herbs. Ashwagandha is an amazing plant adaptogen that really helps a lot of people to better deal with stress and has far, wide-ranging functions within the human body helping to support health.

But, anything that has great effects can also have side effects. I will say this, ashwagandha tends to be one of the safer plants out there. There really is not a whole lot as far as side effects are concerned but everyone is different so occasionally some people do have some issues.

So first of all, let's talk about sleep. Ashwagandha the Latin name for that is Withania somnifera. Now, somni you'll see that same root word is used in such things as insomnia, so many of the adaptogens let's say Rhodiola or ginseng right, they can be very stimulating. Actually, most of the adaptogens are more stimulating side. Ashwagandha is one of the few adaptogens that really is more calming and relaxing.

And one of the reasons that may be working on this is that its effects on the GABA receptors within the nervous system. Now, different people are maybe more focused on
dopamine other people have much more GABA or these different neurotransmitters. We're all a bit different in that. So some people when they take Ashwagandha, especially a bigger dose they may it may knock them out. It may make them very tired.

Now for most people, this is not going to happen. I'd say 90-95 % of people, hard to say exactly, but most people you can take it any time the day it may you may feel some relaxation from it but it's not really an herb that most people feel right away. But for a few people based on GABA receptors or who knows what is going on in them, Ashwagandha can be a powerful sedative. So we might look at that as a side effect right?

If you are one of those people and you're taking ashwagandha about your day it could be making you tired. If that's the case then, obviously you would only want to be taking this right before going to bed.

Use it for those effects, but once again, this is not going to affect most people in this way.

A second side effect of Ashwagandha is one of the few herbs that we know can be helpful around thyroid health. Now there is some evidence possibly that it may be modulating to the thyroid hormones. We don't know all the details of how it's working so that if it's over and above it may bring it down or if it's hypothyroid it may be able to help bring things back up. However, there is more evidence that it's helping on that hypothyroid side.

So if you're too low in t3 or t4 the different thyroid hormones, it may be helping to bring these up. And of course, all of our hormone systems are very complex so how this is all working in the body the details still need to be made more clear and how Ashwagandha is doing this. There are a couple case studies I've seen, I think two or three
of these, where people were.. ashwagandha for whatever reason was overly stimulating to the thyroid system. It seemed to exacerbate or give them some hyperthyroid symptoms.

So if you are hyperthyroid, that doesn't mean you can't take Ashwagandha. Some people I think do have some benefits from doing this but do be careful of it and if you are feeling.. hyper.. if you're getting those hyperthyroid symptoms, which you can find a list of those in all sorts of different places then definitely ashwagandha could be the wrong herb for you. So that is something to be aware of as well.

One last side effect I want to talk about, and this is not something that's going to be an issue with our ashwagandha.. ours is a spagyric tincture so this is something that you squirt in your mouth take it sublingually and then it's gonna absorb into your bloodstream
and have the effects this way.

But a lot of people use just dried ground up ashwagandha root powder and it can certainly have benefits in doing this in Ayurveda this would often be mixed with milk and then consumed. The problem is that you know these are woody roots that you're consuming, and you consume too many of these it can cause some digestive upset. This may even be the
case with some extract powders but it generally seems to be an issue if you're just taking that bulk dry raw root and consuming that.

You do that the body isn't.. it's a raw root. Your not... the stomach and digestive system
is not best at consuming this, so it can cause some digestive upset symptoms in doing so.

Ashwagandha: The Adaptogen on Steroids
Ashwagandha: The Adaptogen on Steroids Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

Lower cortisol naturally with ashwagandha, the powerful adaptogen for anxiety and stress. In this video, we’ll discuss the health benefits of ashwagandha, the ultimate adaptogen. Find out how to use ashwagandha for better sleep, stress relief, mental clarity, and more!

0:00 Introduction: Ashwagandha benefits
1:06 How ashwagandha works
1:48 Ashwagandha review compared to other herbal remedies
3:42 How ashwagandha can lower cortisol naturally
4:03 More health benefits of ashwagandha
5:49 How to take ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is a potent adaptogen that helps you adapt to stress. It’s a cortisol modulator, so if your cortisol levels are too high or too low, ashwagandha can help bring them to normal levels.

Ashwagandha benefits include the following:
•Helps lower cortisol naturally
•Supports sleep
•Improves exercise endurance
•Anti-inflammatory
•Boosts testosterone
•Protects the brain against stress
•Supports hormones, including the thyroid hormone
•Anti-cancer properties

Siberian ginseng is beneficial for mood and physical endurance but does not compare to ashwagandha’s hormone-balancing effects. Panax ginseng is also helpful for exercise endurance and cognitive function, but ashwagandha is better at dealing with stress-related anxiety, especially when dealing with a chronic problem.

Rhodiola is good for stamina and is a natural energy booster, but doesn’t reduce stress or anxiety. Holy basil helps calm the body and improves sleep, but ashwagandha has more benefits.

Matcha root improves energy and sexual function, but ashwagandha has these benefits plus more stress-reducing benefits. Reishi mushrooms improve cognitive and immune function and also provide a calming effect, but unlike ashwagandha, they don’t affect cortisol.

Ashwagandha has a comprehensive cortisol regulation effect and can help people with chronic cortisol stimulation and the problems associated with it.

Ashwagandha is best taken in the evening with your last meal. It’s also beneficial to cycle your ashwagandha use. Try using it for 6 weeks at a time, followed by a 2-week break.

Ashwagandha has many health benefits, but does it also come with side effects? Find out about the dark side of ashwagandha.

0:00 Introduction: What is ashwagandha?
0:14 Ashwagandha benefits
0:53 Should I take ashwagandha?
1:39 Side effects of ashwagandha
3:06 Taking ashwagandha

In this video, we’re going to talk about the side effects and benefits of ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is a powerful herb that helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Along with stress management, ashwagandha has numerous potential health benefits, including the following:
•Reduces nervousness
•Helps reduce cortisol
•Increases VO2 max
•Increases testosterone
•Improves sleep
•Improves recovery
•Lowers blood sugar
•Helps improve insulin resistance

However, there are some things to consider before taking ashwagandha. Avoid ashwagandha if you have a hyperthyroid condition like Graves' disease because ashwagandha speeds up the thyroid.

Because it lowers blood pressure, it’s best to avoid ashwagandha if your blood pressure is already on the low side. If you have low cortisol, you won’t want to push it even lower with ashwagandha. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid ashwagandha.

Don't take ashwagandha if you’re sensitive to nightshades or have a genetic problem that causes you to have too much iron. If you take too much ashwagandha for too long, some people describe feeling no emotion or feeling numb.

Most people who experience adverse ashwagandha side effects have taken it for too long and in high doses. Consider keeping your ashwagandha intake at around 600 mg daily, broken into two 300 mg doses. It’s also best to limit your intake to two months at a time.

In this video we discuss what is melatonin, how our body uses it in different ways, and melatonin as a supplement. We also cover how it affects sleep.

Transcript/notes
What is melatonin? Well, melatonin is actually a hormone that is increased by the brain in response to darkness, and decreases in the morning as it gets lighter outside.

Melatonin works with the body’s natural circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is the body’s internal clock, which signals when it is time to sleep, time to wake, and time to eat.

In some people, low melatonin levels can be caused by alcohol or caffeine consumption, smoking, aging, some medications and exposure to high levels of light at night from certain electronic devices.

Taking a melatonin supplement on a short term basis, 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime can help some people fall asleep and can also help increase sleep duration. 1 to 5 milligrams generally appears to be effective but varies greatly from person to person and it is typically smarter to start out with a lower dosage, but it is always best to consult your doctor before taking any type of sleep aide.

Melatonin also plays a role in body temperature regulation, blood pressure regulation, and blood glucose regulation.

Some of the reported side effects of melatonin include headache, dizziness, nausea and sleepiness. And many sources recommend not taking a melatonin supplement if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an autoimmune disorder, have diabetes or high blood pressure and if you are taking a medication, check with your pharmacist.

The bottom line is that for some people, taking a low dose of melatonin, over a short period of time to help with sleep may be beneficial.

Melatonin is a naturally-occurring hormone that plays an important role in the regulation of circadian rhythms and sleep, but it is also prescribed or sold over the counter as a sleep aid. In this video, I discuss the effectiveness of melatonin as a drug/supplement in promoting sleep, the long-term effects of taking melatonin regularly, how long before bed to take melatonin, and more.

Let’s talk about melatonin benefits! In today’s episode, my guest and I discuss why melatonin is so powerful and much more than just a sleep aid. Its potential for regulating your body goes far beyond sleep, given that it’s produced in your skin and your gut.

There are unfortunately many misconceptions about melatonin. In fact, “Is melatonin bad for you?” is the most common question I’m asked whenever I suggest melatonin.

A common concern is that you can become addicted to it if you take melatonin supplements, wrecking your body’s ability to produce it naturally.

Let me ease your mind: If you’ve been convinced that this melatonin side effect is real – you’ve been duped.

And during this episode, you’ll discover WHY this claim is not only false, but physically impossible.

My guest, Dr. Deanna Minich, has extensively studied melatonin benefits to uncover its hidden potential to transform your health. She is a nutrition scientist, educator, and author, with over twenty years of experience in academia and in the natural product industries, currently serving as Chief Science Officer at Symphony Natural Health. Dr. Minich has been active as a functional medicine clinician in clinical trials and in her own practice (Food & Spirit™).

#melatonin #insomnia treatment #sleeping difficulty treatment #sleeping pills

Not being able to sleep? you are not alone, some studies have shown as high as 50-60% of the population have suffered from Insomnia. This video is part of a series talking about the treatment of Sleeping Difficulty aka Insomnia. Today,  today we are going to talk about one of the most commonly used sleeping pill in treating  insomnia - melatonin.

Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally secreted by our brain to regulate the day and night sleep cycle of our body. Melatonin is secreted when darkness kicks in to promote sleep. and when the sunlight hits our eyes the next day, melatonin production stops and tells our body it's time to wake up.

Now pay attention here,  it is the blue-ray in sunlight that triggers wakefulness in our body. This blue ray is the same blue-ray that is emitted from our computer, iPad and phone screens. so remember to set your phone to an automatic night mode switch, where your phone, iPad or computer screens will automatically stop emitting blue light everyday when evening arrives. If you do not know how to set this up, ask google.

Hey, If you find value in these type of  health related videos, please subscribe and hit the like button. it will help the video rank and help more people. Now back to melatonin

Now, thanks to science, melatonin can be manufactured artificially to top up melatonin that is lacking in our body. Melatonin comes in pill, gummy, liquid or spray form.
more information in video...

Some mild side effects have been reported in the use of melatonin such as  Headache, Dizziness, Nausea, and Sleepiness the next day. If you feel dizzy, drowsy or sleepy the next day, do not drive or operate machinery. The possible side effects of long-term melatonin use, are unclear at this stage.

Melatonin can interact with some medications, make sure you check with your local pharmacist before taking melatonin if  you are taking other medications.

Now besides taking melatonin, remember  to practice sleep hygiene. Sleep hygiene are habits that help you sleep better at night. I have made videos about sleep hygiene.

If your insomnia persists and is not responding to melatonin, and you have already practiced all the sleep hygiene techniques, see your local pharmacist, there are some sleeping  pills that your local pharmacist could give you, such as doxylamine. and if what your pharmacist gives you does not work, you need see a doctor for further trouble shooting  and get treatment accordingly. Your doctor may prescribe you some stronger sleeping pills  and or may refer you to see a sleep therapist.

Now besides a  pharmacist and running this channel, I am also a singer songwriter and an actress. I run a second channel where I put out my original music and entertainment videos, There are some relaxation and sleepy music in that channel to help you sleep.

Here is the Relaxation/ Sleep music playlist:
https://youtube.com/playlist?l....ist=PLELN5MQLYcMxKtF

You can run them in a loop, so it plays over and over again. Looping is a setting, where you can find on your youtube window or you could create a youtube sleep music playlist and include these songs in it. I will put the song links down below for you.

Now let me know down in the description box, what methods have you used to help you sleep share any of your experiences or thoughts. This may help someone who has the same problem like you as well.  Let me know as well if you have any other videos you would like me to make.

It's your pharmacist Soonkie here, see you around.

Melatonin for Sleep: DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK?! | Doctor ER. Real doctor explains everything you need to know about melatonin sleep aid supplement and how it affects sleep. Doctor ER Jordan Wagner is back to explain melatonin side effects, melatonin dosage, melatonin benefits, melatonin overdose, how to take melatonin, and more. What does melatonin do? What is melatonin used for? How does melatonin work? In this video, Doctor Wagner, a real life emergency physician discusses the facts about melatonin gummies and melatonin tablets and the truth behind melatonin release when you can't sleep. If you suffer from insomnia and can't fall asleep fast you might have tried various over-the-counter natural sleep aids and remedies such as melatonin sleep support supplements or asmr. However, is melatonin a good sleep aid? Is it OK to take melatonin every night? Melatonin is most commonly used for insomnia and improving sleep in different conditions. It is used for jet lag, for adjusting sleep-wake cycles. Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland. That's a pea-sized gland found just above the middle of your brain. It helps your body know when it's time to sleep and wake up. Melatonin is a derivative of serotonin best known for its role as a hormone. Doctors are also studying to see if melatonin can help with Alzheimer's disease, cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), high nighttime blood pressure, sleep problems in children with autism spectrum disorders, and more science behind it. Do you use any natural sleep aids or remedies to help you fall asleep? Let Doctor Wagner know in the comments if you've used any melatonin supplements in the past. What was your experience like? Leave any melatonin reviews or life hacks below in the comments!

Melatonin's Surprising Health Benefit - Not Related To Sleep
Melatonin's Surprising Health Benefit - Not Related To Sleep Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

Melatonin is commonly thought of as a sleep hormone that goes up before bedtime to make you sleepy. It’s profoundly delayed by exposure to any artificial lights, especially blue light. It’s been recently discovered that melatonin is also produced by the mitochondria in every cell of your body in response to the near-infra-red (NIR) spectrum of sunlight. Melatonin in the mitochondria is a powerful antioxidant, as well as activating various other anti-oxidants, such as glutathione. Eating a poor diet, including processed foods, alcohol, seed oils, and high fructose corn syrup can create free radicals, which can injure the mitochondria as well as DNA. This can also lead to cancer. Near-infra-red (NIR) light can penetrate your clothing, skin, and even your skull. NIR is also found in campfires, fireplaces, and candles. It’s important to get exposed to plenty of daytime sunlight, especially in the early morning or late afternoon hours, when UV A and B are at their lowest.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
I have taken melatonin for a while now and not know of the melatonin overdose side effects as I just take 2 of the gummies every night.

The melatonin dosage is displayed on the bottle so you can make no mistake about is melatonin addictive. Lots of people use melatonin jet lag hack where they take it after flights for sleeping to avoid the dreaded travel tiredness.

This video is different to the typical melatonin reviews that you will see on youtube. This is more about melatonin benefits for melatonin sleep benefits.

I have to say that I really enjoy using it for sleep and without it I don't think i'd get any where near the quality of sleep I currently get. The only side effect I guess I have is melatonin dreams which are like really vivid dreams.

That being said, It is a personal thing, maybe it will work for you and maybe it wont. You'll have to do a trial and error type test.

Mayo Clinic Minute: What to consider before using melatonin supplements for sleep
Mayo Clinic Minute: What to consider before using melatonin supplements for sleep Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

Dr. Naima Covassin says melatonin is not a sleep promoter. It's a circadian rhythm regulator that can help "reset our clocks" when sleep is difficult due to circadian disruption from things like shift work, jet lag or disorders that interfere with the time of sleep.

Not only are more people using melatonin supplements, they're taking higher doses than the typically recommended maximum dose of 5 or fewer milligrams.

Serious side effects include worsening of seizures; changes in heart rate and blood pressure; decrease in glucose tolerance; and possible drug interactions for people taking medications for seizure disorders, antidepressants and blood thinners.

That's why Dr. Covassin's best recommendation is to talk with your provider.
