Lyrica or Pregabalin is a medication that is used for a lot of different things. It is used principally for conditions of pain involving the nerves. These include diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia among other things. There are some significant risks though while taking it that you need to be aware of and there are some conditions that you may be taking it for but may not be appropriate. in this video we are going to go over those uses and side effects to help you decide with your doctor if it is right for you.
Follow along on:

Medications should not be the only approach you take in treating your conditions. Treating from several different angles is usually the most effective.

To help with your fibromyalgia you may consider some of the recommendations found in this book. Trigger point therapy can do wonders in calming down your pain.

Despite overwhelming evidence and even FDA black-box warnings, Prozac withdrawal symptoms tend to get blamed on the patient rather than the drug itself.
Prozac can have extraordinary side effects and debilitating withdrawal characteristics for certain persons. Disturbingly, these patients tend to get disregarded and minimized for their very real suffering.

Do Your Symptoms Require Prozac?

SSRI drugs such as Prozac are used in treating MDD (major depressive disorder). There are about half a dozen SSRIs that the FDA has approved for treating depression, each having similar characteristics and efficacy. Prozac is the one that remains approved for prescribing to young people, and that is possibly why the number of Prozac prescriptions tends to outweigh the other drugs in this class.

Prozac alternative treatments are available but sadly ignored in the main by doctors and others who may not have been trained in such methods, using non-drug-based protocols. Alternative to Meds Center specializes in alternative treatments for Prozac withdrawal, and for recovering natural mental health without prescription drugs.

Alternative to Meds has expertise acquired over 15 years of helping clients through tapering and withdrawal of antidepressants. We have published evidence clearly demonstrating that more than three-quarters of our clients tapering off fluoxetine or other drugs do better by tapering off them and replacing prescription drugs with a holistic lifestyle and other non-toxic choices to authentically and truly improve their health.

Risks of Prozac

In addition to questions about its value as an antidepressant, Prozac also presents some significant risks. First, common negative side effects include nausea, increased anxiety, trouble sleeping, and fatigue. While less rare, some patients also report significant changes to their mood, uncontrollable muscle spasms, tremors, and a decreased libido. One of the most serious possible side effects is increased thoughts of suicide. There is also a heightened chance of developing serotonin syndrome while taking Prozac. Because the drug interferes with the natural serotonin uptake process, it’s possible for you to end up with too much serotonin. Increased serotonin levels subject you to all sorts of negative symptoms on top of Prozac’s side effects and the initial condition that prompted your doctor to prescribe Prozac in the first place.
To stop using Prozac, it’s necessary for patients to slowly taper their dosage because stopping suddenly can lead to withdrawal syndrome. Additionally, it’s possible for your body to adapt so thoroughly to Prozac that it becomes physically dependent on it just to function normally, making it even more difficult to transition away from use.

Prozac, Zoloft, and Luvox
Often, the names of Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, and other drugs are easily confused, as they are all classified as antidepressants and SSRIs. The three are used so interchangeably it might make a person wonder, what is Luvox (fluvoxamine)? Is Luvox the same as Prozac? Is there a difference between Prozac and Zoloft? Each of these drugs has a different active ingredient. Prozac depends on the active ingredient fluoxetine. Meanwhile, Zoloft has the active ingredient sertraline, and Luvox has the active ingredient fluvoxamine. All these ingredients have the same basic purpose, but they affect your body in diverse ways. For example, Prozac has different withdrawal symptoms than Zoloft, Luvox side effects differ from Prozac’s, and Zoloft uses differ a bit as compared to Luvox uses. Although both Prozac and Zoloft are Luvox alternatives, the smallest of differences could lead to a significant and different impacst on your health.

Why Antidepressants Kill Your Sex Drive - And What To Do About It
Why Antidepressants Kill Your Sex Drive - And What To Do About It Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

Why do antidepressants kill your sex drive? Sexual side effects are a common unwanted medication side effect. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter or nerve chemical that plays a role regulating your mood. But it also does affects nerves that control other parts of body. For example, you actually have more serotonin receptors in your gut than you do in your brain. That’s why nausea is a very common side effect with these medications.

Unfortunately, high serotonin levels in your brain interfere with your sexual behavior. The sexual dysfunction you can get is having little or no interest, delayed climax or inability to have an orgasm at all, erectile dysfunction and decreased sensation in your genital area.

Some studies have shown this to happen as frequent as 60-70%. That’s a lot of people affected. In this video I discuss solutions to this problem.

This Q&A session with the Founder of Alternative to Meds Center, Lyle Murphy, Top questions about Prozac Withdrawal, and Fluoxetine Withdrawal are covered.
Please Like, Share, And Subscribe.

1. What is Prozac? Prozac is an SSRI antidepressant

2. What is Prozac prescribed for? Prozac is used to treat depression, and also sometimes obsessive-compulsive disorder and bulimia.

3. Is Prozac Different than other SSRI's? Yes, it has a much longer half-life than most other SSRI's
1 to 3 days after short-term use and 4 to 6 days after long-term administration.

4. Is Prozac an effective bridge medication versus other antidepressants? The longer half-life makes Prozac generally easier to withdrawal from than other SSRIs or SNRIs like Effexor and Cymbalta.

To read more about Prozac Withdrawal and Fluoxetine visit:
https://www.alternativetomeds.....com/antidepressants/

5. What are natural Prozac Alternatives?

Natural Alternatives to Prozac Include
Individual CBT
Group CBT
Other forms of counseling such as DBT
Exercise
Tryptophan
Sam-e, Omega Fatty Acids, Saint Johns Wort7
Avoid refined carbs, sugars, caffeine, food additives
Testing for and clearing out neurotoxins lodged in the body

6. What helps with Prozac Tapering? Transitioning over to tryptophan is what is often done at Alternative to Meds Center, however, it is not advised to do both tryptophan and Prozac in combination long-term because of the possibility to develop serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is where there is too much serotonin and the condition is rare but could be fatal.

Prozac - Fluoxetine
Prozac - Fluoxetine Side Effects 3 Views • 2 months ago

Prozac opened a new era in psychiatry practiced principally by general practitioners rather than mental health professionals. Some refer to this as cosmetic psychopharmacology. Currently the top 25 drugs prescribed in America include 3 antidepressants. Once heralded as a great advance, professionals are increasingly questioning whether doctors initiate therapy for inappropriate reasons.

Of even more concern, many continue therapy for lengthy intervals. Attempts to cease treatment often result in a condition known as the discontinuation syndrome. Its symptoms are routinely mistaken for recurrence of the original depression. Unfortunately the response generally involves even more therapy.

Studies routinely fail to demonstrate a significant difference from placebo in mild to moderate depression. Prozac clearly improves severe depression, however this may be most appropriately managed by psychiatrists rather than general practitioners and internists. The way medicine is currently practiced dictates the overwhelming majority of people suffering from depression will never meet with a psychiatrist.

Unfortunately the vast majority of prescriptions for Prozac originate in brief interactions with non-specialists less than adequately schooled in the nuances of depression. A cursory evaluation during a hurried visit followed by a prescription with multiple refills seems almost guaranteed to miss the essentials of depression.

Prozac became the first modern antidepressant and belongs to the family of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs. Other members of the class include Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, and Lexapro. None demonstrate significant superiority in treating depression and all share a common side effect profile. For reasons unique to an individual, some people prefer or respond more favorably to one pill rather than another.

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, tremors and excessive perspiration. Sexual dysfunction affects more men than women with erectile difficulties, loss of libido and lack of orgasm occurring in anywhere between 1-70%. Obviously the lower numbers arise from drug company funded studies.

Bleeding difficulties may occur especially in those receiving aspirin or anticoagulants. Monitoring for weight change, either gain or loss, low blood sugar and falling levels of blood sodium remain essential.

Combination with triptans for migraine, other antidepressants, St. John’s wort, lithium or fentanyl may lead to the serotonin syndrome. Manifestations include dizziness, sweating, elevated temperature, increased heart rate and blood pressure, tremor, agitation, hallucinations and delirium.

Complaints suggestive of the discontinuation syndrome include headache, irritability, dizziness, sleeplessness, fatigue, crying spells, shakiness and a form of mania.

Prozac is not appropriate for pregnant or breast feeding women.

Despite its suggested activity in boosting serotonin, the drug’s mechanism of action remains unsettled. Neither elevating nor lowering serotonin levels guarantees a change in mood. Emerging concepts clearly indicate abnormalities in many brain chemicals underlie depression. Serotonin’s role in the process is under review. The recently released Spravato – esketamine – treats depression by targeting a different area, the NMDA receptor.

In the 1950s, the discovery of two new drugs sparked what would become a multi-billion dollar market for antidepressants. Neither drug was intended to treat depression at all— many doctors and scientists believed psychotherapy was the only approach to treatment. Neil R. Jeyasingam details the decades-long journey that followed and how it revolutionized our understanding of depression.

What Happens To Your Body After Taking Creatine For 30 Days?
What Happens To Your Body After Taking Creatine For 30 Days? Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

What exactly does creatine do to your body? How does creatine work? And where does it go? What creatine benefits should you expect to feel, and how soon? Is it safe? And are there any creatine side effects you should know about? Today we’ll cover all that by doing a deep dive into what to expect throughout your first 30 days of taking creatine.

So, first things first: what does creatine do to your body? Creatine is a substance we naturally produce and use up as an indirect energy source to power our muscles through high intensity activities. For this reason, we store most of our creatine in our muscles (95%). But, about 5% of creatine is also stored in the brain. Supplementing with creatine can increase our baseline levels by about 30%. As a result, our muscles have more creatine to power our muscles with, leading to more strength and muscle mass overtime. But approximately 20-30% of individuals naturally walk around with just about fully saturated muscle creatine levels. As a result, they experience little to no benefit from creatine supplementation.

When you first start taking creatine, it takes time for your muscles to become fully saturated with that additional creatine. How long this takes depends on how much creatine you take every day. Using the loading method, it’ll take about 7 days to fully saturate your muscles. The other method is to take a baseline dose of creatine every day and to slowly increase your creatine levels overtime, often taking about 2-3 weeks to reach full saturation.

Both methods get you to the same end destination, but will differ in some of the creatine side effects you may experience. For example, one of the side effects most people experience during this saturation phase is water retention and a small spike in your bodyweight. Another often reported side effect is stomach discomfort. If you experience this, or want to avoid experiencing it in the first place, try splitting up your creatine dose into multiple smaller doses throughout the day if you’re on the loading protocol. If it doesn’t work, stick with the non-loading protocol. In addition to this, avoid taking creatine on an empty stomach or with caffeine as those both scenarios seem to increase the likelihood of an upset stomach. Lastly, when you take your creatine, you can try mixing it with hot water to get it fully dissolved and see if that helps.

Alright so the last side effect you and your doctor should know about has to do with your creatinine levels. Creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine. Since you’re taking more creatine, your creatinine levels will also slightly increase. And since high creatinine levels can indicate impaired kidney function, this can be alarming to see on a blood test if you’re not aware of it. However, creatine has been consistently proven to be a safe supplement for healthy individuals and your health professional should be aware of its effect on creatinine.

Alright so our muscles are now locked and loaded with creatine! What happens now? What creatine benefits can you expect? First off, your strength should start increasing across most of your movements. Note that even just a slight increase in your strength or reps is a very solid return as far as supplements go and can lead to significantly greater muscle mass overtime. In addition to just improving performance however, a study that surveyed 52 NCAA athletes found that 81% of them reported faster recovery from their training as one of the benefits they noticed after taking creatine. So after you reach saturation, pay attention to how fast you recover between your workouts as you may notice an improvement. Lastly, creatine supplementation could consistently improve performance on short-term memory and tests of intelligence, with the benefits becoming even more apparent under stressed states such as sleep deprivation.

So that should give you a very good idea as to how does creatine work, exactly, and what to expect once you start taking creatine. That said guys, creatine or any supplement for that matter, is just the icing on the cake. If you want to truly transform your body and see incredible results then you need to prioritize your training and your nutrition. If you need help in these areas and are looking for a simple yet highly effective science-based program you can trust, that shows you exactly how to train and how to eat to transform your body as efficiently as possible, then simply take our analysis quiz to find the best program for you and your body below:

Creatine is one of the most researched supplements in the world. Touted for many of its benefit, including improved exercise performance and cognition, it has been a staple dietary supplement, particularly creatine monohydrate, in the world of fitness.

Some however, have had concerns about creatine and its unfortunate connection to hair loss. It's not uncommon that personal experiences have linked creatine to this unfortunate side effect, but does it just happen to be a coincidence or is there actual data to this? In this video, we'll break down the connection between creatine, DHT, and baldness (alopecia) to get to the bottom of this hair loss conundrum.

- What are creatine's side effects?
- What are creatine's benefits?

0:00 Introduction

0:44 7- Enhances brain function
Yes, creatine can improve brain function in some people. It helps to provide energy to the brain, and studies have found that it can improve memory, attention, and intelligence test scores in healthy adults. However, not all studies have shown significant effects, and more research is needed to fully understand its potential benefits.

1:21 6- It may help with depression
There's some evidence that creatine could help with depression. Taking creatine supplements can boost the energy levels in your brain and improve the way your brain sends messages, which might reduce symptoms of depression. In one study, people who took creatine supplements for eight weeks had fewer signs of depression compared to those who didn't take any. But we need more research to know how much creatine to take and for how long to get the best results.

2:00 5- It may improve bone health
Studies have shown that creatine supplementation can increase bone mineral density, which may help to reduce the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. In one study, postmenopausal women who took creatine supplements for one year had significant improvements in bone density compared to those who took a placebo.

2:43 4- May help with diabetes
Some research has suggested that taking creatine supplements may improve glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, which are important factors in managing diabetes. However, further research is needed to determine the full extent of its potential benefits. If you have diabetes and are considering taking creatine supplements, it's important to talk to your doctor first to make sure it's safe for you and to determine the appropriate dosage.

3:20 3- May improve heart health
If you have heart failure, taking creatine supplements could improve how well your heart works. And it might also lower your blood pressure and help your cholesterol levels, which could reduce your risk of getting heart disease. In one study, people with heart failure who took creatine supplements for 12 weeks had way better heart function than those who didn't take any. However, we need more research to fully understand how creatine affects heart health.

4:17 2- It may reduce inflammation
When you get hurt or sick, your body responds with inflammation, but if it goes on for too long, it can cause other health problems like heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer. Taking creatine supplements may help lower levels of some inflammation markers in your body, like CRP, IL-6, and TNF-alpha. But we need more research to know for sure how much creatine to take and for how long to get the best results.

4:59 1-Reduces fatigue and improves endurance
creatine can totally help you feel less tired and push through workouts longer. It's found naturally in your muscles and helps give you energy for high-intensity exercise like lifting weights or sprinting. By taking creatine supplements, you can get even more creatine stored in your muscles, which may help improve your performance and stave off fatigue during intense exercise.
Research has shown that creatine can really help with activities that require short bursts of effort, like lifting heavy weights or running sprints. It might even help with endurance activities, like long-distance running or cycling.

6:03 Side Effects of Creatine
So, creatine is mostly safe for people to use, but there are some potential side effects you should know about. The most common side effects are tummy troubles like stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea. Plus, some people might gain weight, but that's just because the muscles hold onto more water when you take creatine.
In really rare cases, creatine supplements could cause more serious problems like liver issues or kidney damage. But this usually only happens if you take too much creatine or use it for a long time. And it's more likely to happen if you already have problems with your liver or kidneys.
It's super important to talk to your doctor before you start taking creatine, especially if you have other health conditions or take any meds.

When it comes to deciding which supplements to take and at what age to start taking them, I felt there was a need for an official supplement checklist. Something that could be used as a guide for years to come that would help you decide which workout supplements and vitamins were going to be helpful to you, specific to your goals and your age. Here we are going to cover what Amazon has determined are the top 14 categories of supplements according to the popularity of them based on those people using them.

We start the list off where many people start off their day, with a multi-vitamin. This is something that I look at as an insurance policy for covering the broad gaps in your not so perfect nutrition plan is creating right now. The issue with many multi-vitamins is that they are almost too broad, including many times vitamins and minerals that conflict with the absorption of one another in the same pill. That said, they are remarkably safe and are popular amongst all of the age groups covered in this video (and even those younger than discussed).

Next up we have specialty vitamins. This is best determined by identifying specific deficiencies via either a blood panel or obvious signs and symptoms, and then addressing them with individual vitamins and micronutrients. This includes things like vitamin D, iron, potassium, vitamin C, etc. There are many causes of nutrient deficiency, but the most important thing is that you don’t ignore yours if they are present.

Next we have to talk about protein powder. This is the most popular workout supplement on the market by far, for good reason. We can all agree that having enough protein in our diets is critical to building the most amount of muscle possible from our workouts. I actually don’t view protein supplements as supplements, but rather as an alternate source of protein to chicken, beef or fish. In fact, it is most of the time the most convenient way for us to make sure we’re hitting our daily protein requirements of around 1 gram per pound of bodyweight. The key here is choosing a high quality formula. ATHLEAN-Rx Pro-30G is at the top of the heap when it comes to this. It’s made from only the highest quality sources of protein and has an industry leading 30 grams of protein in every serving. You can find it at the link above.

Continuing on, we hit a run of three closely related supplements in purpose that are very different from each other in function and safety. This includes TRT, SARMS and Testosterone Boosters. First of all, the first two are so readily available and used these days that they have become almost confused by many, especially the younger population, that they act as if they are on a par with protein. These are not. They are medically prescribed substances and in the case of SARMS, not even medically approved for healthy use.

Back to the more traditional supplements we discuss the use of melatonin. This natural sleep aid is safe for all ages but must be used in proper dosages and is therefore best that you get the advice of your physician. That said, the increased use of electronics and devices late at night create sleep disturbances due to the over exposure to blue light. Rather than turn to a supplement to help you sleep better you’d be better off following the advice of Dr. Andrew Huberman who suggests that getting early sunlight exposure every morning can help to restore normal circadian rhythms and more restful sleep.

Turning back to the workout supplements we have to address creatine. Notice I didn’t point out the specific form of creatine since there are so many. Whether you take creatine monohydrate, creatine hcl or even buffered creatine, they all work the same and have the same end result - improved force and power generation in every workout, faster replenishment of ATP, increased intramuscular hydration and increased muscle size. The determining factor between taking one form or another has to do with the potential for bloating or gut disturbance that some experience with monohydrate. If that is you, you should look into taking creatine HCL which has a higher absorbability and can be taken in lower dosages (2-3 grams vs 5 grams for monohydrate).

There are many more supplements covered here so you'll want to watch the whole video. Remember to subscribe and turn on your notifications!

Why Do Antidepressants Take So Long To Work?
Why Do Antidepressants Take So Long To Work? Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

Antidepressants can take anywhere from 2 -6 weeks to see a therapeutic effect. You may notice a little improvement sooner than that, but the usual is weeks.

There's a couple reasons for this. The first is due to the way the drug works. Medications have to reach a steady state in your body before you can get a reliable effect. It takes approximately 5 half-lives to reach steady state. If you have a medication that has a half-life of 24 hours, it takes five days to reach steady state.

A second reason has to do with the delayed effect the increase in serotonin has on your thoughts. You have the increased serotonin, then a delay, then you have the downstream neuroadaptive effects which is reducing and increasing various receptors, then you have a change in mood that causes a change in emotional bias.

A cognitive model of depression is that negative thinking both causes and perpetuates depression. When you're depressed, you have more negative view of the world. Depression affects what you pay attention to. You're more likely to notice negative facial expressions, spot negative cues in your environment and draw negative conclusions about things. This is referred to as a negative bias or negative valence.

Thoughts, feelings and behaviors are all connected. There's still a model for endogenous depression where you develop depression soley based on brain changes. But we be still believe even that depression affects your thinking. It's debatable as to which came first, depression illness or thought depressed thoughts. But the mind and the body are one. And the best approach to depression is to address them both equally. The mind approach would be through therapy or self-help measures to address your mindset and the body approach would be diet, exercise, sleep hygiene and medication if appropriate.
