Tacrolimus, cuándo y cómo tomarlo - Tu Farmacéutico Informa
Tacrolimus, cuándo y cómo tomarlo - Tu Farmacéutico Informa Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

Tacrolimus.

Any medication have downsides, even if it's demonstrated an excellent safety record. Let's talk about possible side effects from using Protopic ointment and Elidel cream.
UPDATE: in summer 2024, my skin stopped reacting to sun! I guess that this side-effect was caused solely by Protopic, which accumulated in my organism for years of use, and Elidel hadn't replaced it yet it in summer 2023, when I experienced severe sun allergy.

Do T4 Medications Actually Work? Who Should Use Them & Who Shouldn't
Do T4 Medications Actually Work? Who Should Use Them & Who Shouldn't Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

This is video#8 in my thyroid beginner series and it's all about T4 thyroid medication.

T4 thyroid medications like Synthroid, Levothyroxine and Tirosint are among the most commonly prescribed thyroid medications but they don't always work.

But why don't they work?

Doctors make the assumption that your body will be able to convert T4 into T3 (to activate the hormone) at 100% efficiency. The problem is that we know, through genetic studies, that up to 15% of people struggle with this process.

Some people have SNP's which alter the function of deiodinase enzymes and therefore reduce this conversion process.

So why do Doctors still use them?

Because T4 medications have a long half-life and are considered to be very safe (fewer side effects) when compared to other medications. In addition, many doctors aren't comfortable or familiar with other thyroid medications.

Is all hope lost?

No, because you can still use some strategies to improve thyroid function in your body even if you are taking thyroid medication.

Use these 3 tips:

#1. Switch to a different type or brand of T4 medication. Switch from Synthroid to levothyroxine or from levothyroxine to Synthroid and so forth.
#2. Use thyroid medication in doses of 50mcg increments. The 50mcg tablet has fewer dyes and fillers when compared to other dosages of these medicines.
#3. Consider taking your thyroid medication at night. Taking your thyroid medication at night may increase your free thyroid hormones and help you feel better!

10 Important Tips for Taking Synthroid: Dosing, Side Effects, T3 Medications & More
10 Important Tips for Taking Synthroid: Dosing, Side Effects, T3 Medications & More Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

10 important tips for taking Synthroid. This list includes how to dose Synthroid, the side effects of Synthroid, how Synthroid compares to T3 thyroid hormone, and more!

Today is all about Synthroid. If you take this medication then you'll want to learn more about these 10 tips and tricks that you can use to help feel better.

Synthroid is one of the most common thyroid medications used to treat hypothyroidism but it's not without problems.

These tips are designed to help you find your optimal dose, help you understand if you are absorbing Synthroid, help you figure out if you need a new medication and more.

10 Tips to know when taking Synthroid:

#1. Peripheral T4 to T3 conversion
First off, you need to understand that Synthroid contains the inactive thyroid hormone T4. This means that in order for thyroid hormone to be utilized in your body it must first be activated through peripheral thyroid conversion. Several factors including genetics, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies and so on can impact this process. There are situations in which you may be taking enough Synthroid but your body is not able to activate it.

#2. Absorption of Synthroid
In order for your body to use Synthroid, it must also be absorbed in your intestinal tract! Several medications, supplements, and even foods can impact how much you absorb. Do your best to take Synthroid away from supplements such as Calcium and Iron which can limit absorption.

#3. Are supplements helping or hurting you?
Some supplements can decrease absorption but there are others that can help. The use of Selenium and Zinc can help your body activate Synthroid after it is absorbed.

#4. The time of day that you take Synthroid
Synthroid can be safely taken in the morning but it can also be taken at night. Studies have shown that patients who take it in the evening actually have higher free T4 and free T3!

#5. Levothyroxine vs Synthroid: Are they the same?
Levothyroxine and Synthroid both contain the same active ingredient but they are not considered bio-equivalents.

#6. Tirosint

#7. Dosage

#8. Switching to NDT or T3 medication

#9. The full thyroid lab panel

These tests will give you an idea as to how your body is utilizing Synthroid.

#10. Synthroid side effects
Lastly, make sure that you watch our for the side effects of Synthroid which include:
- Weight gain
- Hair loss
- Heart palpitations
- Rashes
- Headaches
- Insomnia
- Hot flashes
- Changes in menstrual cycle

Any of these side effects may indicate you need to switch medications!

What is Symbicort used for? Common respiratory issues treated, dosing , potential side effects
What is Symbicort used for? Common respiratory issues treated, dosing , potential side effects Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

Symbicort contains two active ingredients:. budesonide and formoterol. Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) that reduces inflammation in the airways. It works by suppressing the immune response that causes swelling and narrowing of the airways, thereby improving breathing. Formoterol, on the other hand, is a long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) that relaxes the muscles in the airways, making it easier to breathe.
The combination of budesonide and formoterol in Symbicort provides a dual-action effect, targeting both the underlying inflammation and the bronchoconstriction associated with respiratory conditions. By addressing these two aspects, Symbicort effectively improves lung function and reduces symptoms in individuals with asthma and COPD.
It is important to note that Symbicort should be used regularly as prescribed by a healthcare professional, even when symptoms are not present. Consistent use is necessary to maintain control over respiratory conditions and prevent exacerbations.
Dosing guidelines for Symbicort.
The dosing of Symbicort may vary depending on the individual's age, severity of the respiratory condition, and the healthcare professional's recommendations. It is crucial to follow the prescribed dosage instructions for optimal results and to minimize the risk of side effects.
For adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older with asthma, the recommended starting dose is usually 2 inhalations of Symbicort 80/4.5 mcg or Symbicort 160/4.5 mcg twice daily. However, the dosage may be adjusted based on the individual's response to treatment and the healthcare professional's assessment. The maximum recommended dose is 2 inhalations of Symbicort 160/4.5 mcg twice daily.
For individuals with COPD, the recommended starting dose is typically 2 inhalations of Symbicort 160/4.5 mcg twice daily. Again, the dosage may be adjusted based on the individual's response to treatment and the healthcare professional's assessment. The maximum recommended dose is 2 inhalations of Symbicort 160/4.5 mcg twice daily.
It is important to use the inhaler correctly to ensure the proper delivery of the medication. Before using Symbicort for the first time, it is essential to prime the inhaler by releasing two test sprays into the air, away from the face. This ensures that the inhaler is ready for use. The inhaler should be shaken well before each use, and the mouthpiece should be placed between the lips, forming a tight seal. After inhaling deeply and slowly, the breath should be held for a few seconds before exhaling. It is important not to exhale into the inhaler.
Potential side effects of Symbicort.
As with any medication, Symbicort may cause potential side effects. It is crucial to be aware of these side effects and to consult a healthcare professional if they persist or worsen over time. The most common side effects of Symbicort include headache, throat irritation, cough, and fungal infections in the mouth and throat (oral candidiasis).

Reyvow: Uses, Side Effects + When It Would Be A Good Option (And When It Wouldn't)
Reyvow: Uses, Side Effects + When It Would Be A Good Option (And When It Wouldn't) Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

What Is Reyvow Used For?

It's a newer (at the time of this video) medication you take by mouth to treat acute migraine attacks.

How Does It Work In Your Body?

Is stimulates a receptor in your body that helps 'calm' the trigeminal system - which is a part of your brain.

It's main advantage is that it really focuses on lowering the pain associated with migraine without causing vasoconstriction ... which is what the triptans do.

Another unique thing about Reyvow is that it acts not just peripherally (like all the other acute migraine medications we have) - but also centrally.

How Is It Dosed?

It's availabe as a 50, 100, or 200 mg dose. But unlike other acute migraine meds you can only take 1 dose in 24 hours.

And the safety of treating more than 4 migraine attacks in a month has not been established.

Is It A Triptan?

The classic class of drugs used to treat migraine attacks have been around since the 1990's and are called the 'triptans'.

But triptans act in a different way than Reyvow.

Side Effects of Reyvow?

Reyvow doesn't have a lot of side effects but the one it can cause is dizziness in up to 9-17% of users.

But the dizziness can be severe enough that you CANNOT USE REYVOW IF YOU NEED TO DRIVE A CAR OF MACHINERY WITHIN 8 HOURS OF TAKING IT!

How Fast Does It Work?

You can start to notice improvement of your migraine within 30-60 minutes of taking Reyvow.

3 Groups of People Reyvow May Be A Good Option For

1) If PAIN is your biggest complaint
2) Poor results with triptans
3) Can't use triptans (have heart or stroke concerns)

Is taking 2 doses of combination drug at one time for Migraine safe? - Dr. Pradeep Kumar T J
Is taking 2 doses of combination drug at one time for Migraine safe? - Dr. Pradeep Kumar T J Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

Migraine is a condition which is related to vascular disorder of the blood vessels in the brain. It can experience excruciating hemicranial headaches associated with nausea, vomiting and photophobia, which is a discomfort on seeing lights. So they need to be treated again with a combination of drugs which are used to heal acute attacks and also drugs to prevent recurrent attacks. The drugs that are used to treat acute attacks are usually the 5 HT antagonists like sumatriptan, along with that we give a combination of analgesics, anti-nausea drugs, which is a combination domperidone and naproxen, which is the commonest combination that we use. But using this drug immediately reduces the intensity of the headache in half an hour period. In case the patients continue to have pain, there is no harm in taking a repeat dose of drug within 24 hours, a second dosage can be attempted. But at no given point of time, you need to repeat more than 2 drugs in a 24 hour interval. These are the treatment of acute attacks. In terms of preventing the attacks on a regular basis, we use a various drugs and the neurologist and the treating physician would help you to understand the limitation of these drugs, the usage of these drugs and the effects and the side effects of these drugs. So please consult your physician or neurologist for continuous headaches which are frequent, needs to be evaluated further with imaging studies.

Ninja Nerds!
In this neuropharmacology lecture, Professor Zach Murphy presents a focused breakdown of Migraine Medications, helping you master the acute and preventive treatment strategies for one of the most common and debilitating neurological disorders. This lecture ties together the underlying pathophysiology of migraines with the mechanism of action of key pharmacologic agents.

We begin by reviewing the phases of a migraine and the role of trigeminovascular activation, neurogenic inflammation, and serotonin (5-HT) pathways. From there, we cover first-line abortive therapies such as triptans, NSAIDs, and ergot alkaloids, emphasizing how they work to suppress vasodilation and neuropeptide release during an acute attack.

The lecture then transitions into preventive therapies, including beta blockers (propranolol), anticonvulsants (topiramate, valproate), tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline), and CGPR monoclonal antibodies like erenumab. You’ll learn to select medications based on comorbidities, side effect profiles, and patient-specific factors.

Sumatriptan Side Effects Demystified: Essential Information
Sumatriptan Side Effects Demystified: Essential Information Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

Common Side Effects of Sumatriptan.
While Sumatriptan is generally well-tolerated by most individuals, there are some common side effects that can occur. These side effects are usually mild and transient, subsiding on their own without the need for medical intervention. Some of the most frequently reported side effects include:.
Nausea.
Nausea is one of the most common side effects associated with Sumatriptan use. It is characterized by a feeling of queasiness or an urge to vomit. If you experience nausea after taking Sumatriptan, try taking the medication with food to help alleviate this side effect. If the nausea persists or becomes severe, consult your healthcare provider for further guidance.
Dizziness.
Dizziness is another common side effect that may occur after taking Sumatriptan. It is characterized by a sensation of lightheadedness or unsteadiness. To minimize the risk of dizziness, it is recommended to avoid sudden changes in posture, such as standing up quickly from a seated or lying position. If dizziness persists or worsens, consult your healthcare provider.
Sensations of Warmth or Pressure.
Some individuals may experience sensations of warmth or pressure in the chest or throat after taking Sumatriptan. These sensations are usually short-lived and not a cause for concern. However, if they persist or are accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it is important to seek medical advice.
Serious Side Effects of Sumatriptan.
While most side effects of Sumatriptan are mild and transient, there are more serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. Although these serious side effects are rare, it is important to be aware of them to ensure prompt intervention if they occur. Some of the serious side effects of Sumatriptan include:.
Chest Pain or Tightness.
Chest pain or tightness is a less common but potentially serious side effect that may occur after taking Sumatriptan. If you experience any chest discomfort or pressure, it is important to seek immediate medical attention, as it could be a sign of a heart-related issue.
Changes in Heart Rate or Rhythm.
Sumatriptan can affect the heart rate and rhythm in some individuals. If you notice any irregularities in your heartbeat, such as a fast or pounding heart, or if you experience palpitations, it is crucial to consult your healthcare provider promptly.
Shortness of Breath.
In rare cases, Sumatriptan may cause shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. This could be indicative of a serious allergic reaction, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
Managing and Minimizing Side Effects.
While it is not possible to completely eliminate the risk of side effects, there are several strategies you can employ to manage and minimize their occurrence. These include:.
Follow the Prescribed Dosage.
It is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage of Sumatriptan and not exceed the recommended limits. Taking more than the prescribed amount does not provide additional benefits and may increase the risk of side effects.
Take Sumatriptan with Food.
If you experience nausea after taking Sumatriptan, try taking the medication with food. This can help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort and minimize the likelihood of nausea.
Stay Hydrated.
Ensure you are adequately hydrated before and after taking Sumatriptan. Dehydration can potentially exacerbate certain side effects, such as dizziness.
What is Sumatriptan?.
Sumatriptan belongs to a class of medications known as triptans and is specifically designed to target and alleviate the symptoms of migraines. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain and reducing inflammation, effectively relieving the intense pain and associated symptoms that accompany migraines.
The drug is available in various forms, including tablets, nasal sprays, and injections, allowing individuals to choose the most suitable method of administration. Sumatriptan is typically taken as soon as a migraine attack begins or during the aura phase, if present. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed the recommended limits to minimize the risk of side effects.

The Ultimate Guide to Sucralfate: Benefits, Side Effects, and Uses Side Effects 2 Views • 1 month ago

Sucralfate is a medication that is commonly prescribed to help treat a variety of gastrointestinal issues. Whether you suffer from ulcers, acid reflux, or other stomach problems, Sucralfate may be able to provide you with the relief you need. But with so many different medications on the market, it can be tough to know which one is right for you. That's why we've put together this ultimate guide to Sucralfate. In this comprehensive resource, we'll explore everything you need to know about Sucralfate, from its benefits and uses to the potential side effects you may experience. Whether you're a long-time sufferer of GI issues or simply looking for a reliable medication to help you manage your symptoms, this guide is the perfect starting point for anyone interested in learning more about Sucralfate. So let's dive in and discover everything there is to know about this powerful medication.
How does Sucralfate work?
Sucralfate is a medication that works by forming a protective barrier over the surface of the stomach and small intestine. This barrier helps to protect these areas from the damaging effects of stomach acid and other irritants. By creating this barrier, Sucralfate can help to promote the healing of ulcers and other gastrointestinal issues.
Sucralfate works by binding to proteins found in the stomach lining. This binding process creates a thick, viscous gel-like substance that adheres to the surface of the stomach and small intestine. This gel helps to protect the damaged tissue from further damage and irritation, allowing the body to heal more quickly.
Sucralfate is also believed to have some anti-inflammatory properties. This can help to reduce inflammation in the stomach and small intestine, which can help to alleviate symptoms such as pain and discomfort.
Benefits of Sucralfate
Sucralfate has several benefits for people who suffer from gastrointestinal issues. One of the main benefits of Sucralfate is its ability to promote the healing of ulcers. By creating a protective barrier over the surface of the stomach and small intestine, Sucralfate can help to protect the damaged tissue from further damage and irritation. This can help to promote faster healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Sucralfate is also effective at reducing symptoms such as pain, discomfort, and heartburn. By reducing inflammation in the stomach and small intestine, Sucralfate can help to alleviate these symptoms and improve overall quality of life.
Another benefit of Sucralfate is its relatively low risk of side effects. Compared to other medications used to treat gastrointestinal issues, Sucralfate is generally well-tolerated and has a low risk of causing serious side effects.
Uses of Sucralfate
Sucralfate is most commonly used to treat ulcers in the stomach and small intestine. It can also be used to treat other gastrointestinal issues such as acid reflux, gastritis, and esophagitis.
Sucralfate can be used in combination with other medications to treat these conditions. For example, it is often used in combination with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to treat acid reflux.
Sucralfate may also be used to prevent ulcers from forming in people who are at high risk of developing them. This is often the case for people who have a history of ulcers or other gastrointestinal issues.
Sucralfate dosage and administration
The dosage of Sucralfate can vary depending on the condition being treated and other factors such as age and weight. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
Sucralfate is typically taken orally, usually four times a day. It should be taken on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.
Sucralfate should be taken exactly as prescribed. It is important not to skip doses or stop taking the medication without first consulting with your healthcare provider.
Possible side effects of Sucralfate
Like all medications, Sucralfate can cause side effects. The most common side effects of Sucralfate include constipation, nausea, and upset stomach. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own.
