Does xylitol cause heart disease and strokes? Is it true that the findings of a recent study show that xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol used to prevent and reduce tooth decay can cause heart disease?
This video looks at the study its methods and findings and weighs them up against the facts about xylitol and whether you should continue to use xylitol as part of your dental health routine.
Xylitol and Heart Health: A Recent Study
Recent research suggests a potential link between xylitol consumption and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. However, it's important to note that more studies are needed to confirm this association and understand the exact mechanisms involved.
#xylitol #heartdisease #naturalhealing
Key Findings from the Research:
Higher xylitol levels: People with higher levels of xylitol in their blood were found to have a higher risk of cardiovascular events.
Platelet activity: Xylitol may influence platelet activity, which can impact blood clotting.
Need for further research: While the findings are concerning, more studies are necessary to establish a definitive causal relationship.
Xylitol Prevents Tooth Decay
Xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol, is a popular ingredient in many sugar-free products. It's known for its ability to help prevent tooth decay. Unlike traditional sugars, xylitol doesn't promote the growth of harmful bacteria that cause cavities. In fact, some studies suggest that xylitol may even inhibit the growth of these bacteria. This makes xylitol a promising option for those looking to maintain oral health.
Xylitol Prevents Gum Disease
Xylitol has been shown to not only prevent tooth decay but also reduce the risk of gum disease. Gum disease, also known as periodontitis, is a serious oral health condition caused by bacteria that build up in the gums. Xylitol helps to disrupt the growth of these harmful bacteria, promoting healthier gums and reducing the risk of gum disease. It's a valuable tool for maintaining overall oral health.

Hypoglycemia is most common among people who take insulin, but it can also occur if you're taking certain oral diabetes medications.
Signs of severe hypoglycemia ranges from Confusion and disorientation, to Convulsions / fitting / seizures, Intense nightmares whilst asleep, Loss of consciousness and Coma.
Glucagon is a peptide hormone, produced by alpha cells of the pancreas. Glucagon increases blood sugar levels in the body by stimulating the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream.
It has the opposite effect of insulin, which lowers blood sugar levels.
Until now, people suffering from a severe hypoglycemic episode had to be treated with a glucagon injection that first had to be mixed in a several-step process.
Injectable glucagon has been approved for use in the U.S. for several decades and is commonly used by health care professionals for treating severe hypoglycemia.
On 10 Sep 2019, FDA approves Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc’s Gvoke to treat severely low sugar levels in diabetes patients.
Gvoke, Xeris’ glucagon pen is an pre-filled device with liquid stable form of glucagon. It won approval for use in diabetes patients, aged 2 years and above.
This new way to administer glucagon may simplify the process, which can be critical during an episode and simplify the treatment.

Benicar, Benicar HCT, Azor and Tribenzor are prescription medications that treat high blood pressure. These medicines all contain, Olmesartan a medication that has been linked to 22 cases of sprue-like enteropathy.
According to the FDA, this rare gastro-intestinal disorder can cause symptoms that include severe and chronic diarrhea along with substantial weight loss. The conditions can take anywhere from a few months to years to develop and may require hospitalization. Researchers from The Mayo Clinic found that these 22 patients displayed symptoms suggestive of Celiac Disease. But when blood tests and a gluten-free diet didn’t support the diagnosis, researchers discontinued the use of the medication and the patients’ symptoms dramatically improved.
Since the Mayo Clinic’s research, reports from other centers and from individual patients have raised the total case count to more than 60.
If you’re taking Benicar, Benicar HCT, Azor or Tribenzor, and have noticed severe GI symptoms or substantial weight loss, you may want to discuss these side effects with your doctor.
