In this neuropharmacology lecture, Professor Zach Murphy presents a focused breakdown of Migraine Medications, helping you master the acute and preventive treatment strategies for one of the most common and debilitating neurological disorders. This lecture ties together the underlying pathophysiology of migraines with the mechanism of action of key pharmacologic agents.
We begin by reviewing the phases of a migraine and the role of trigeminovascular activation, neurogenic inflammation, and serotonin (5-HT) pathways. From there, we cover first-line abortive therapies such as triptans, NSAIDs, and ergot alkaloids, emphasizing how they work to suppress vasodilation and neuropeptide release during an acute attack.
The lecture then transitions into preventive therapies, including beta blockers (propranolol), anticonvulsants (topiramate, valproate), tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline), and CGPR monoclonal antibodies like erenumab. You’ll learn to select medications based on comorbidities, side effect profiles, and patient-specific factors.

Common questions I receive about Symbicort and a demonstration of correct inhaler technique. If you twist the Symbicort more than needed, will this affect the amount of medication you inhale? Is it possible to overdose with medication this way?

5 big reasons why Synthroid isn't helping you feel better. Synthroid is a VERY common low thyroid medication prescribed to treat hypothyroidism but only works if used correctly.
Are you taking the thyroid medication known as Synthroid? By the way, the information we are about to talk about ALSO applies to levothyroxine!
If so, then you should be aware that there are a number of reasons why this medication may NOT be working for you in your body.
Levothyroxine and Synthroid are some of the most commonly prescribed medications in the United States with levothyroxine making the #1 spot in 2016.
This means that there are a TON of people using these medications.
The problem with that is that most people using them are not actually getting the benefit of the medication for a number of issues.
We are going to talk about 5 REASONS that many people using Synthroid are NOT feeling well (and what you can do about it).
#1. Your dose.
The first, and probably most common, issue is that most people are simply taking an insufficient or low dose. If your dose is too low then you simply won't feel any better. Thyroid medication is used to SUPPLEMENT low levels of thyroid hormone in your body. You MUST be using the right dose if you want to feel better and you are most likely underdosed if you basing your dosing off of your TSH.
#2. Absorption.
It doesn't matter if you are taking Synthroid or levothyroxine if it isn't being absorbed into your body! You can take as much medication as you want but it's ineffective unless it makes it through your intestinal lining. Many gut-related issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, the use of acid blockers, and gut inflammation can LIMIT this absorption.
If you have any of these issues be sure that you take care of them if you want your medication to be effective.
#3. Conversion issues.
Next is something called peripheral thyroid conversion. In order for your Synthroid to work, it MUST be converted into the ACTIVE thyroid hormone known as T3.
What people don't realize is that up to 20% of the population has problems with this conversion process.
#4. The wrong medication.
There are some people in which Synthroid and levothyroxine simply will NOT work. This is because they can't convert the medication or they need a medication with fewer fillers or dyes. Either way, you should understand that Synthroid may not be the answer you are looking for and there are MANY other thyroid medications available.
#5. You're taking it wrong.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for overall well-being, and blood flow plays a vital role in it. When it comes to cardiovascular support, understanding how different compounds affect blood flow is essential. In this video, we'll delve into the effects of Tadalafil and Niacin on blood flow, and how they differ. Tadalafil, commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction, has a specific mechanism of action that impacts blood flow. On the other hand, Niacin, a form of Vitamin B3, has its own unique way of influencing blood flow. By exploring the distinct ways these compounds interact with blood flow, we can gain a deeper understanding of how to promote cardiovascular health. Watch to learn more about the fascinating world of blood flow and its significance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

12 Strange Signs Your Body Needs More Vitamin B1
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is a very important nutrient used to convert nutrients into energy in your cells. It's heavily involved with the nervous system and protecting the coating around your nerves against damage.
Less than 1% of the thiamine in your body is stored in your blood, so blood tests won't usually tell you if you are deficient in Vitamin b1 or not, which is why it often gets overlooked by doctors.
For this reason, today we identify 12 common, yet strange signs of a Vitamin B1 deficiency to watch out for including nerve pain, excessive yawning, anxiety, a fast heart rate, acid reflux, swelling, hyperactivity and many others.
I also explain what causes a Vitamin B1 deficiency, and some natural ways to boost your vitamin b1 levels, by using supplements or eating certain foods.

This is the second of two lectures I gave to a group of medical/health professionals on the clinical application of high-dose vitamin B1.
In this video I outline the the difference between nutritional deficiency and the concept of "functional dependence". I then discuss the practical aspects of forming a protocol including:
- Which form to use and why
- How to dose for different conditions
- When to use this therapy and when not to use this therapy
- Managing patient side effects
