How to use Ventolin inhaler
How to use Ventolin inhaler Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

How to use the Ventolin inhaler which contains salbutamol. This short acting inhaler is also sometimes known as a "blue" inhaler. Most commonly it is used as a reliever for asthma, although it can be prescribed for many other conditions. It is probably the most common and well known inhaler.
The inhalation technique involves first breathing out and then as you are breathing back in you press on the inhaler and continue to breathe in slowly an deeply trying to catch the aerosol that is released.

An estimated 90% of patients use their metered dose inhaler incorrectly. Inadequate inhaler technique lowers drug deposition to the lungs, wastes medication and may lead to poor disease control, reduced quality of life, increased emergency hospital admissions and higher treatment costs.

Please spread the word to friends and family - Like, Share & Tag a Friend. So they can also master their inhaler technique and manage their respiratory condition better.

COMMON INHALER TECHNIQUE MISTAKES:

• Not breathing out first. When you breathe out fully (or as much as you comfortably can) just before taking your inhaler, you create more space in your airways for your next breath in. This means that you can breathe in deeper and for longer when you inhale your asthma medicine - giving it the best chance of reaching the small airways deep inside your lungs, and being most effective.

• Not holding your breath after taking your inhaler. If you've been advised to hold your breath after taking in your inhaler, it's very important to do so. When you hold your breath after inhaling the medicine, you are keeping your airways still. This gives more time for the medicine to get into your lungs. If you can hold your breath for 10 seconds, this is ideal but if this isn't possible, you will still benefit by holding it for as long as you feel comfortable.

• Not priming the aerosol inhaler device Aerosol inhalers require priming (so you get the right amount of medicine when you use it) before using for the first time, or if they have not been used for a while - always refer to information leaflet.

• Not shaking your MDI before use and between puffs. If you don't shake the canister, the asthma medicine and propellant (the substance which helps turn the medicine into aerosol form) will not mix together properly and too much or too little of one will be released.

• Inhaling too early before pressing the canister. If you're already half way through breathing in by the time the medicine is released from the inhaler, you won't have enough time to finish breathing in all the medicine because your lungs will already be full. If this happens, some of the medicine will end up being sprayed in your mouth and hitting the back of your throat and not being carried down to your lungs where it's needed.

• Inhaling too late after pressing the canister (unless you're using a spacer). It takes less than half a second from the time the canister is pressed for all the medicine inside the inhaler to be released. If you breathe in after this time, some of the medicine will end up being sprayed in your mouth and not to your lungs where it's needed.

• Not leaving enough time between doses. You need to give your inhaler a good shake between doses and then wait at least 30 to 60 seconds before taking the next puff.

JUST ASK:

If you're ever unsure about your inhaler technique always double check with your pharmacist, nurse practitioner or GP.

Dr Joseph Nemeth discusses Asthma Inhalers and other exposure to hazardous fumes causing strange lesions on the gum tissue decades after exposure.

Those patients who did not rinse out their mouths after using an inhaler may be at higher risk of developing unusual lesions on their gum tissue.

Another recent patient was exposed to strong fumes from jet fuel and later developed strange white patches on her gum tissue. She also developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. Are the two related?

Rosuvastatina, cuándo y cómo debemos administrarla. Tu Farmacéutico Informa
Rosuvastatina, cuándo y cómo debemos administrarla. Tu Farmacéutico Informa Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Are augmentin and rocephin in the same family?
Are augmentin and rocephin in the same family? Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Are augmentin and rocephin in the same family?.
No, Augmentin and Rocephin do not belong to the same family of antibiotics. Augmentin is a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium, while Rocephin is the brand name for ceftriaxone.
Augmentin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of bacteria. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria cell walls, ultimately killing them. This medication is commonly prescribed to treat various infections, such as respiratory tract infections, ear infections, and urinary tract infections.
On the other hand, Rocephin belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall and inhibiting bacterial growth. Rocephin is often used to treat more severe infections, including meningitis, pneumonia, and gonorrhea.
Although both Augmentin and Rocephin are antibiotics, they have different chemical structures and mechanisms of action. Therefore, they are not considered to be in the same family of antibiotics.

Rizatriptan Tablets: Uses, Dosage, Mechanism, Side Effects, and Important Advice | MediInsights
Rizatriptan Tablets: Uses, Dosage, Mechanism, Side Effects, and Important Advice | MediInsights Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Welcome to MediInsights, your trusted source for in-depth health and wellness information. In today's video, we'll be exploring everything you need to know about Rizatriptan tablets, a powerful medication for managing acute migraines.

What is Rizatriptan?
Rizatriptan is a triptan medication used primarily for the acute treatment of migraine attacks. Unlike preventive migraine medications, Rizatriptan is designed to alleviate symptoms once a migraine begins.

Uses of Rizatriptan Tablets:
Rizatriptan tablets are specifically formulated to treat migraine headaches with or without aura. They work best when taken at the onset of migraine symptoms, providing relief from the intense headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound that often accompany migraines.

Dosage of Rizatriptan Tablets:
For adults, the typical initial dose is either 5 mg or 10 mg, taken as soon as the migraine symptoms appear. If the migraine persists or returns, a second dose can be taken after two hours, but the maximum dosage should not exceed 30 mg within 24 hours. For children aged 6 to 17, the dosage is generally 5 mg, tailored based on body weight and response to the medication.

Mechanism of Action of Rizatriptan Tablets:
Rizatriptan works by activating serotonin (5-HT) receptors in the brain, leading to the constriction of dilated blood vessels. This vasoconstriction is crucial in reducing the headache pain associated with migraines. Additionally, Rizatriptan helps inhibit the release of certain neuropeptides, reducing inflammation and further alleviating migraine symptoms.

Side Effects of Rizatriptan Tablets:
While Rizatriptan is effective, it may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and nausea. Other possible side effects include dry mouth, chest pain, and sensations of pressure or tightness. Serious but rare side effects include heart attack, stroke, severe hypertension, and serotonin syndrome, particularly when used with other serotonergic medications.

Important Advice for Using Rizatriptan Tablets:
Consult Your Doctor: Always consult your healthcare provider before starting Rizatriptan, especially if you have a history of cardiovascular issues or hypertension.
Timing is Crucial: Take Rizatriptan at the onset of migraine symptoms for maximum effectiveness.
Avoid Overuse: Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Overuse can lead to medication-overuse headaches or other complications.
Monitor Side Effects: Be vigilant for any unusual side effects or signs of serotonin syndrome, especially if you’re on other medications.
Proper Storage: Store Rizatriptan tablets in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture.
Seek Emergency Help: If you experience severe side effects like chest pain, shortness of breath, severe abdominal pain, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention.
