Finasteride is an FDA approved medicine to stop hair loss in men and treat prostate adenoma. It slows down the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by binding to the enzyme type 5 alpha-reductase. Finasteride keeps existing hair and slows down further baldness. It's usually used in combination with minoxidil to get more effective hair regrowth. The medication is available in the form of tablets.

Dutasteride alike Finasteride is a medication for the treatment of BPH (prostate enlargement) and hair loss (androgenic alopecia). Unlike Finasteride, it binds both 5-alpha reductase types, which, in turn, blocks DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) in the body and stops hair loss. Dutasteride is not effective in new hair growth stimulation, so it's usually used in conjunction with Minoxidil.

However, it's the most effective medication if you want to stop hair loss and prevent its future progression. Dutasteride is in the form of a capsule. It's only for adult men and should not be used by women or children under any circumstances.

I had the pleasure of speaking with @dr.sergiovanogalvan6394 earlier this year, and he gave us some top-notch information regarding the safest protocol for stopping hair loss. No, it's not 'bludflow' or any other nonsense. It's tried and tested dutasteride. In a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, they tested various dosages of dutasteride and finasteride. They found that two capsules of 0.5 mg of dutasteride were as effective as 1mg daily of finasteride.

Furthermore, Dr. Vańo states that in his practice, they observed that patients who suffered from side effects with 1mg daily of finasteride did not have any side effects on low-dose oral dutasteride. Low-dose oral dutasteride is safer and as effective as finasteride in their practice.

What is Dupixent?

Dupixent is an injectable prescription medicine used to treat a number of inflammatory conditions.

Dupixent works to inhibit the inflammatory response by binding to a protein called interleukin-4 (IL-4) receptor alpha subunit (IL-4Ra)] that causes inflammation.

What is Dupixent used to treat?

Dupixent is used in adults and children 6 months and older to treat moderate-to-severe eczema (atopic dermatitis). It is used in patients with eczema that is not well controlled with prescription therapies used on the skin (topical), or who cannot use topical therapies. Dupixent can be used with or without topical corticosteroids.

Dupixent is used in adults and children 6 years and older to treat moderate-to-severe asthma in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. It is used with other asthma medicines for the maintenance treatment of patients whose asthma is not controlled with their current medicines.

Dupixent is used only in adults to treat a condition called chronic rhinosinusitis (long-term sinus inflammation) that is associated with nasal polyps.

Dupixent is used to treat eosinophilic esophagitis in adults and children 12 years of age and older, who weigh at least 88 pounds (40 kg).

Dupixent is also used to treat adults with prurigo nodularis.

How should I use Dupixent?

Use Dupixent exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.

Dupixent is not a rescue medicine for asthma attacks. Use only fast-acting inhalation medicine for an attack. Seek medical attention if your breathing problems get worse quickly, or if you think your asthma medications are not working as well.

Dupixent is injected under the skin, usually once every 2 to 4 weeks. Your first dose may be given in 2 injections.

A healthcare provider may teach you how to properly use the medication by yourself. Read and carefully follow any Instructions for Use provided with your medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you don't understand all instructions.

Do not shake the prefilled syringe or injection pen. Prepare your injection only when you are ready to give it. Do not use if the medicine looks cloudy, has changed colors, or has particles in it. Call your pharmacist for new medicine.

Store this medicine in the original carton in the refrigerator. Protect from light and do not freeze.

Take a syringe or pen out of the refrigerator and let it reach room temperature for 30 to 45 minutes before injecting your dose. Leave the needle cap on until you are ready to inject your dose.

You may store a prefilled syringe or injection pen at cool room temperature for up to 14 days. Throw the medicine away if not used within 14 days. Do not put it back into the refrigerator.

Each prefilled syringe or injection pen is for one use only. Throw it away after one use, even if there is still medicine left inside.

The pre-filled pen is for use in adults and children 12 years and older. The pre-filled syringe is for use in adults and children 6 months and older.

Dupixent side effects.

Common side effects of Dupixent may include:

pain, swelling, burning, or irritation where an injection was given;
blood vessel inflammation;
eye redness or itching, puffy eyelids;
stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
sore throat;
tooth pain;
sleep problems (insomnia);

Cymbalta (Duloxetine): What are the Side Effects? Watch Before You Start!
Cymbalta (Duloxetine): What are the Side Effects? Watch Before You Start! Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Cymbalta or Duloxetine is a medication that is used to treat mainly Depression and Anxiety but also is used to treat Fibromyalgia, Diabetic and other types of Neuropathy, Joint pain and even Hot Flashes related to menopause. Get a doctors perspective on how this mediation can help you and what to expect while taking it. You'll learn about both common and some of the more rare side effects that you should watch out for.

Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is in the family of medications called Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI). They influence the amount of Serotonin and Norepinephrine that is available to help with mood and other functions of the body.

With depression you tend to have symptoms like difficulty concentrating, remembering things or making decisions. Fatigue, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness. People experience sleeping problems, mood swings, a loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed, appetite changes, generalized pain, persistent sad or empty feelings and even suicidal thoughts or attempts.

Those who are going through anxiety you may have symptoms such as sudden and unexplained onset of a rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, pain in your chest, fear of dying, numbness and tingling throughout your body or just a generalized feeling of anxiousness all the time that you just can’t explain.

If you are experiencing these symptoms you need to seek help from a professional. Go see your doctor and get an accurate diagnosis to figure out a good treatment plan for you. Remember depression and anxiety are real medical conditions and should be treated just as diabetes or high blood pressure need to be treated. You shouldn’t feel any different treating any one of these medical conditions.

We'll give a good overview in the video of the common side effects but its important to remember that most side effects if any are transient and can be minimized by working with your doctor. We will discuss more concerning side effects such as serotonin syndrome as well.

Pharmacology of Doxylamine ; Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects
Pharmacology of Doxylamine ; Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Doxylamine is a first-generation antihistamine with pronounced sedative properties. It is commonly used to treat insomnia and allergy symptoms, and in combination with pyridoxine (vitamin B6), it is used to treat morning sickness in pregnant women.

Mechanism of Action
Doxylamine works by blocking histamine H1 receptors, which are involved in the body's allergic response. By inhibiting these receptors, it helps reduce symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose1. Additionally, its sedative effects are due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and act on the central nervous system.

Indications
Insomnia: Often used as a short-term sleep aid.

Allergies: Helps alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose.

Morning Sickness: Combined with pyridoxine to treat nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Administration
Oral: Available in tablets, orally disintegrating tablets (ODT), and syrup.

Over-the-Counter (OTC): Commonly found in nighttime cold and allergy medications (e.g., NyQuil).

Dosage
Insomnia: Typically 25 mg taken 30 minutes before bedtime.

Allergies: Dosage varies based on the severity of symptoms and patient response.

Side Effects
Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation.

Serious: Potential for QT prolongation and extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., acute dystonia, akathisia)2.

Precautions
QT Prolongation: Use with caution in patients with a history of QT prolongation or those taking other medications that prolong the QT interval.

Elderly: Increased risk of confusion, dry mouth, constipation, and other anticholinergic effects

What Is Doxycycline And How Does It Help Treat Chlamydia? With Dr Daniel Atkinson
What Is Doxycycline And How Does It Help Treat Chlamydia? With Dr Daniel Atkinson Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that targets and kills the bacteria responsible for chlamydia. Here we have Dr Daniel Atkinson, the Clinical Lead at Treated, to tell us what it is and how it works.

Doxycycline is what we call a tetracycline antibiotic. It disrupts the production of essential proteins in the bacteria that causes chlamydia, stopping its spread and killing it off. You’ll take doxycycline once a day for a full week for chlamydia, and by the end of your treatment your condition should be resolved. You shouldn’t have any kind of sex (even with a condom) until both you and your partner have completed a course of treatment – but after taking doxycycline for a week you won’t have to wait any longer.

The Treated team can help you get the chlamydia treatment that’s best for your life. Subscribe, pause or stop whenever it suits you. Choose better.

Doxepin (Sinequan, Silenor) and its use in the treatment of depression, insomnia and Anxiety
Doxepin (Sinequan, Silenor) and its use in the treatment of depression, insomnia and Anxiety Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses Doxepin (Sinequan, Silenor) a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that has been used in psychiatry to treat depression since 1961. This medication is FDA approved to treat insomnia (at very low doses) and anxiety as well.

Tricyclic antidepressants are not as commonly used as some other antidepressant medications (like SSRIs and SNRIs) as they tend to carry increased risks for side effects (including, but not limited to, cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, increased intra-ocular pressure, dry mouth, constipation [and paralytic ileus], urinary retention, sedation, orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia and others). If an individual develops suicidal thoughts while taking an antidepressant (or at any time, whether they take a medication or not) they need to seek immediate medical attention. TCAs, like doxepin [Sinequan, Silenor]) can be extremely effective (with all of this being said) and for some individuals who do not respond to other treatment modalities, they can be an important next step for the treatment of their depression.

Dr. Pagnani is the founder and medical director of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates, an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for the Department of Psychiatry, he supervises psychiatric residents at Jefferson Hospital, he serves on the Young Professional Board of Uplift, the Center for Grieving Children and he maintains a private practice of Psychiatry in Philadelphia where he sees patients for one-time psychiatric evaluations and second opinions. He is a licensed physician and surgeon in NJ, PA, NY, MD, DE, FL and CA and can provide consultations to individuals via HIPAA compliant Telehealth visits living in these locations.

Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a private practice of psychiatry consisting of about 25 psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychotherapists with physical locations in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and serving all of PA, NJ, NY and FL virtually via HIPAA compliant tele-psychiatry. Individuals seeking not only evaluations but long-term psychiatric care, can contact Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates directly.

These videos aim to increase awareness and discussion of mental health topics and to encourage struggling individuals to schedule an appointment directly with a mental health provider. Mental health needs to be normalized, and simply speaking about mental health topics openly, is an important first step.

Dr. Pagnani and Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates are NOT advocating for or against the use of any mentioned psychiatric medications for any specific individual. Additionally, any side effects mentioned are not a complete list of potential side effects or contraindications to taking any mentioned medications, and all risks and benefits of a medication should be discussed with an individual’s provider at an appointment, before starting, stopping or making changes to a medication regimen.
