Low Blood Pressure: Why It Matters And How To Treat It
Low Blood Pressure: Why It Matters And How To Treat It Side Effects 0 Views • 1 month ago

Welcome to Talking with Docs! In this episode, our special guest Dr. Heffernan, a renowned cardiologist, sheds light on low blood pressure, or hypotension. Dr. Heffernan explains what is considered low blood pressure, its causes, symptoms, and potential health risks. Tune in to discover how low blood pressure is diagnosed and treated, and learn how to maintain healthy blood pressure levels.

Hypotension, commonly known as low blood pressure, is a condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is lower than normal. Specifically, hypotension is defined as a systolic pressure (the higher number) of less than 90 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or a diastolic pressure (the lower number) of less than 60 mm Hg. Hypotension can cause symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting, and can be caused by a variety of factors including dehydration, blood loss, certain medications, and underlying health conditions.

Ninja Nerds!
In this high-yield pharmacology and critical care lecture, Professor Zach Murphy breaks down the spectrum of vasopressors and inotropes, focusing on their mechanisms of action, receptor profiles, clinical indications, and when to use them based on the type of shock and hemodynamic status.

We begin by classifying these agents into functional categories:
• Inopressors (e.g., Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Dopamine): Drugs with both inotropic (↑ contractility) and vasopressor (↑ vascular tone) effects—ideal for distributive and cardiogenic shock
• Inodilators (e.g., Dobutamine, Milrinone): Drugs that increase cardiac output while promoting vasodilation—useful in low-output heart failure and cardiogenic shock with elevated afterload
• Pure Vasopressors (e.g., Phenylephrine, Vasopressin): Drugs that raise systemic vascular resistance without significant cardiac stimulation—used in neurogenic shock, septic shock adjuncts, or when tachyarrhythmias limit beta-agonist use

We also discuss:
• Methylene Blue: A rescue agent for refractory vasodilatory shock, working by inhibiting nitric oxide–mediated vasodilation
• Midodrine: An oral alpha-1 agonist used in chronic orthostatic hypotension and as a weaning agent from IV vasopressors in the ICU

The lecture emphasizes receptor pharmacology (α, β, DA, V1), dosing strategies, monitoring parameters, and how to individualize therapy based on preload, afterload, cardiac output, and MAP targets. We also address key side effects like arrhythmias, tachyphylaxis, ischemia, and extravasation injury.

Midorise 10 Tablet Uses, Side Effects & Dosage Explained!
Midorise 10 Tablet Uses, Side Effects & Dosage Explained! Side Effects 0 Views • 1 month ago

Midorise 10 Tablet | Uses, Side Effects, Dosage, Review

Midorise 10 Tablet is a medication that contains midodrine, an alpha-1 selective adrenergic receptor agonist, primarily used for managing low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, in adults. Symptoms of low blood pressure may include blurred vision, dizziness, fainting, and difficulty concentrating. This medication works by acting on the blood vessels through the sympathetic nervous system, helping to prevent blood pooling in the legs, thus correcting blood distribution imbalances. It is crucial for patients to be monitored regularly, especially when transitioning from lying down to standing, as there is a risk of blood pressure fluctuations. While effective, common side effects include increased blood pressure when lying down, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Caution is advised for individuals with severe kidney or liver issues and for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not suitable for those under 18 years or with severe heart disease, this medication should only be taken under physician guidance. Always consult your doctor to discuss potential side effects, the management of symptoms, and any other concerns.

What is Myrbetriq used for? Typical uses, dosage guidance, potential side effects, and user opinions
What is Myrbetriq used for? Typical uses, dosage guidance, potential side effects, and user opinions Side Effects 0 Views • 1 month ago

Myrbetriq, also known as mirabegron, is a medication primarily used to treat the symptoms of an overactive bladder (OAB). It works by relaxing the muscles of the bladder, allowing for increased bladder capacity and reducing the frequent urge to urinate.

Typically, Myrbetriq is prescribed to individuals who experience urinary urgency, urinary frequency, and urge incontinence - all symptoms commonly associated with OAB. It is important to note that Myrbetriq is not a cure for OAB, but rather helps manage the symptoms.

The dosage guidance for Myrbetriq may vary depending on individual circumstances and specific medical conditions. It is crucial to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional and not exceed the recommended dosage. Typically, the initial dose is 25 mg once daily, which can be increased to 50 mg if necessary. However, it is essential to consult with your doctor to determine the appropriate dosage for your specific needs.

Like any medication, Myrbetriq may have potential side effects. The most commonly reported side effects include increased blood pressure, headache, urinary tract infection, constipation, and dry mouth. However, it's important to remember that not everyone will experience these side effects, and they may vary in severity. Your healthcare provider can provide a more comprehensive list of potential side effects and help you weigh the risks versus benefits of taking Myrbetriq.

User opinions on Myrbetriq can vary, as experiences with medication can differ from person to person. Some individuals may find significant relief from their OAB symptoms while taking Myrbetriq. They may experience reduced urgency, fewer episodes of incontinence, and an overall improvement in their quality of life. On the other hand, others may not experience the same level of efficacy or may have concerns about potential side effects. It is always a good idea to consult with your doctor and gather information from trusted sources to make an informed decision about taking Myrbetriq.

To summarize, Myrbetriq is a medication commonly used to treat the symptoms of an overactive bladder. It works by relaxing the bladder muscles and reducing urinary urgency and frequency. Dosage guidance should be followed carefully, and potential side effects should be discussed with a healthcare professional. User opinions on Myrbetriq can vary, so it is important to consult with your doctor and gather information to make an informed decision."

Mirabegron extended release tablets 50 mg | Mirabegron tablet uses in hindi

Mirabegron belongs to the group of medications called ‘urinary antagonists' or 'antispasmodics' primarily used to treat overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms. Overactive bladder is a condition in which the urinary bladder muscles constrict uncontrollably, thereby causing an urgent need to urinate, frequent urination, and an inability to control urination.

Mirabegron contains ‘mirabegron’ that relaxes the urinary bladder muscles, which in turn decreases the activity of the overactive bladder. In an overactive bladder, muscle contractions occur before the full expansion of the bladder, causing the patient to have frequent urges to urinate. Mirabegron stops these sudden contractions of urinary bladder muscles, thereby enabling control over urination. Thus, it increases the amount and volume of urine that can be held by the bladder.

In some cases, Mirabegron may cause common side effects of Mirabegron, which are nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and increased heart rate. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, consult a doctor.

Pharmacology of Mirabegron (Myrbetriq); Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects
Pharmacology of Mirabegron (Myrbetriq); Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects Side Effects 0 Views • 1 month ago

Mirabegron is a medication primarily used to treat overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms, such as urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence. It belongs to a class of drugs known as beta-3 adrenergic receptor agonists. Here's a detailed overview of its pharmacology:

Mechanism of Action
Mirabegron works by selectively stimulating beta-3 adrenergic receptors in the bladder. This leads to relaxation of the detrusor smooth muscle during the storage phase of the urinary bladder fill-void cycle, thereby increasing bladder capacity and reducing symptoms of OAB1.

Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Mirabegron is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 3-4 hours.

Distribution: It has a volume of distribution of approximately 300 liters.

Metabolism: Mirabegron is metabolized in the liver primarily by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, particularly CYP3A4.

Excretion: The drug and its metabolites are excreted primarily in the urine.

Half-Life: The half-life of mirabegron is about 50 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.

Clinical Uses
Overactive Bladder (OAB): Treatment of symptoms such as urgency, frequency, and incontinence.

Neurogenic Detrusor Overactivity: Management of bladder symptoms in patients with neurological conditions.

Adverse Effects
Common: Headache, hypertension, nasopharyngitis, and urinary tract infections.

Less Common: Dizziness, constipation, and dry mouth.

Serious: Severe allergic reactions and angioedema (swelling of the deeper layers of the skin).

Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir) can increase mirabegron levels.

CYP3A4 Inducers: Drugs that induce CYP3A4 (e.g., rifampicin) can decrease mirabegron levels.

Precautions
Hypertension: Monitor blood pressure regularly, especially in patients with a history of hypertension.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use with caution and only if clearly needed.

Allergies: Inform your healthcare provider if you have any allergies to mirabegron or its components

MiraLAX (ClearLax, GaviLAX) – Side Effects, Uses, Mechanism of Action, Dosage, Interaction, Warnings
MiraLAX, also known as ClearLax or GaviLAX, is an over-the-counter osmotic laxative used primarily to treat occasional constipation by softening stools and increasing bowel movement frequency. It is also used to clean out the intestines before certain procedures like colonoscopies. The active ingredient, polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG 3350), works by retaining water in the stool, which softens it and increases bowel movements. Common side effects include nausea, abdominal cramping, bloating, and gas, while serious side effects may include severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and allergic reactions. The typical adult dosage is 17 grams of powder dissolved in a beverage once daily, while children under 17 should only use it if prescribed. Precautions include avoiding use if allergic to PEG, consulting a healthcare provider if you have kidney disease or gastrointestinal conditions, and monitoring for electrolyte imbalances with prolonged use.
