Apixaban Side Effects: What You Should Know Before Taking This Medication
Apixaban Side Effects: What You Should Know Before Taking This Medication Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

Apixaban is a medication that is used to prevent stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation. While Apixaban can be a lifesaving medication, it is important to understand the potential side effects before taking it. In this video, we will discuss the side effects of Apixaban, how to recognize them, and when to seek medical help. We'll also provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about taking this medication.

00:00 Intro
00:52 What are the most common side effects of apixaban?
Apixaban is a medication that is used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation (AFib). It is also used to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in people who have been treated with hip or knee replacement surgery. The most common side effects of apixaban include: bleeding, headache, dizziness, nausea, and indigestion. Other less common side effects may include diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, constipation, muscle pain, back pain, rash, stomach pain, and difficulty sleeping. Some patients may also experience swelling of their hands or feet, increased heart rate or palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pain, or sore throat. If you experience any of these side effects, it is important to contact your doctor right away.
01:40 What should I avoid when taking apixaban?
When taking apixaban, you should avoid activities that increase the risk of bleeding, such as contact sports. You should also avoid drinking alcohol while taking apixaban, as it may increase the risk of bleeding. Additionally, avoid taking any non-prescription medications, herbal supplements, or vitamins without consulting your doctor first. Apixaban can interact with certain medications and supplements, increasing the risk of bleeding. Finally, do not take apixaban if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it may harm the unborn or nursing baby.
02:13 Does apixaban make you tired?
Apixaban is a blood thinner medication that helps to prevent blood clots from forming. It is not known to make people feel tired, though some people may experience fatigue or tiredness as a side effect. In general, apixaban does not cause drowsiness or sedation, but it can cause dizziness, which can lead to feelings of tiredness. If you experience fatigue or tiredness while taking apixaban, talk to your doctor to see if there are any other medications or treatments that may help. Additionally, make sure to get plenty of rest and exercise regularly, as this can help to reduce feelings of tiredness.
02:48 What does apixaban do to the heart?
Apixaban is an anticoagulant medication that works to prevent the formation of blood clots in the heart. It does this by inhibiting certain clotting factors and reducing the production of thrombin, a substance that helps blood clots form. Apixaban also blocks Factor Xa, an enzyme that helps convert fibrinogen into fibrin, which is necessary for the formation of a clot. By blocking these factors, apixaban helps to keep the heart healthy and reduce the risk of stroke and other serious complications. Apixaban may also be used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
03:25 How long is it safe to take apixaban?
Apixaban is an anti-coagulant medication that is prescribed to prevent blood clots and help reduce the risk of stroke. While the length of time it is safe to take apixaban will be determined by your doctor based on your individual health needs, most people take it for at least 6 months. In some cases, patients may need to take apixaban for up to 12 months or more. It is important to speak with your doctor about the benefits and risks of taking apixaban for an extended period of time.
03:52 Can you be on apixaban for life?

04:34 Can apixaban cause weight gain?

05:08 Does apixaban cause dementia?

05:46 apixaban side effects in elderly?

06:36 foods to avoid with apixaban?

Eliquis 101: Uses - How It Works - Side Effects - Dosing + Can You Take It With Alcohol? Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

Looking for options outside of drugs and surgery? Here's 11 Other Natural Therapies I Personally Use And Recommend? Click here: https://curtis-alexander.com/

Eliquis is a prescription medication used to 'thin' your blood.

It can be used in different groups of people and diseases but you primarily see it used either after a knee or hip replacement surgery and if you want to treat or prevent a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) or PE (Pulmonary Embolism).

But unlike other 'blood thinners' (i.e., warfarin (Coumadin)) it is not affected by certain foods. It also acts differently in the body by basically blocking activation of your platelets which leads to blocking clot formation.

The major side effects are all going to be bleeding related with hemorrhage, nosebleeds and blood in the urine as possibilities.

I discuss other side effects in the video along with some of the different dosing you might see.

I also discuss if you can take with alcohol.

Have you or someone you know taken Eliquis? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks in advance,
Curtis Alexander, Pharmacist

Can I stop my Blood Thinner?
Can I stop my Blood Thinner? Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

No one wants to be on a blood thinner. But while some people only need it for a short period of time, others will need to take a blood thinner for a long time. So how do you know if you can stop your blood thinner? At the end of the day you have to balance risk for clotting off of the blood thinner with risk of bleeding while taking it.

This video is about taking blood thinners after a blood clot (like a pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis). It is not about taking a blood thinner for atrial fibrillation. That is different.

In this video, we explore the optimal dose of aripiprazole for depression and how it can be used effectively in antidepressant augmentation. Aripiprazole is one of the most well-studied atypical antipsychotics for depression, particularly in cases of treatment-resistant depression where standard SSRIs and SNRIs have failed to deliver results. But finding the best dose of aripiprazole is critical to balancing its benefits with potential side effects like akathisia and sedation.

This video breaks down the findings from a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, examining how aripiprazole dosage impacts patient outcomes in clinical depression treatment. We discuss how doses between 2-5 mg/day can lead to significant improvements on the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale, and why higher doses may not provide additional benefits in most patients. You’ll also learn how aripiprazole augmentation can improve the effectiveness of SSRI and SNRI therapies, helping patients who struggle with treatment-resistant depression.

If you're interested in understanding the clinical benefits of aripiprazole, this video provides clear guidance on its use in mental health treatment. We delve into how this atypical antipsychotic works as an augmenting agent for depression medications, improving the efficacy of existing treatments while minimizing adverse effects. For psychiatric care providers and patients alike, this is essential information on how to best utilize aripiprazole for depression.

Whether you're managing treatment-resistant depression or seeking to optimize your mental health treatment, understanding the aripiprazole dosage guide is key to achieving better outcomes. This video helps clarify the best practices for using aripiprazole in clinical depression treatment, while also explaining how to avoid common aripiprazole side effects and ensure safe, effective treatment.

With expert insights and the latest research, we explore the clinical benefits of aripiprazole and offer practical recommendations on aripiprazole dosing for treatment-resistant depression. Join us for an in-depth discussion that could change the way you approach depression care.

While aspirin is known for its blood-thinning properties, which can help prevent atherosclerosis, it's important to understand both its benefits and potential risks. My intention is not to advocate for aspirin use, but rather to inform viewers about its effects. Additionally, there are many natural supplements, such as garlic, turmeric, ginger, and omega-3 fatty acids, that some people explore for supporting heart health. I encourage everyone to consult with healthcare professionals and conduct their own research before making any changes to their health regimen. Thank you for watching and engaging with this important topic! Dr. Mandell

In this video, we dive deep into the science behind aspirin and its potential role in unclogging arteries. While aspirin is commonly known for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, its ability to prevent heart attacks and support cardiovascular health may surprise you. We’ll also cover the recommended dosage, timing, and when it may or may not be right for you. Along the way, we'll share the latest medical insights, including how aspirin can be used in both primary and secondary prevention of heart disease. Should you be taking baby aspirin every day? Does baby aspirin actually prevent heart disease? At just 81 mg per day, baby aspirin is often touted as being “heart-healthy.” However, a new study shows that baby aspirin is only effective in men and women between 50 and 59-years-old who have a history of heart problems. For all other individuals, daily baby aspirin therapy could potentially be dangerous. https://clderm.com

What Happened When I Stopped Taking My Medication
What Happened When I Stopped Taking My Medication Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

As much as my meds help me, it’s a battle to remember to do all the things I need to do to be able to take them: sign up for health insurance, pay my bill, make a doctor appointment, GO to that appointment, get my prescription, find a pharmacy that can fill it, remember to pick it up before it closes, remember to bring my ID so they’ll let me...

So when I miss a step and find myself without my meds, it’s easy to wonder...are they really necessary?

This is what happened when I forgot to pay my health insurance, stopped taking my medication for two weeks and tried to learn how to live without it.

Please share -- because the stigma is real, and no one should have to feel ashamed for getting the treatment they need just because their disorder is mental rather than physical, invisible rather than obvious.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and it’s time we acknowledge that.

*NOTE* -- I do not recommend going off medication without a doctor's supervision. A medical professional should be accessible to troubleshoot problems. If you can't reach your doctor, talk to a pharmacist.

Pharmacology of Azelastine (Astelin) ; Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects
Pharmacology of Azelastine (Astelin) ; Mechanism of action, Pharmacokinetics, Uses, Effects Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

Azelastine is a potent antihistamine used primarily in the management of allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis. Here’s a detailed look at its pharmacology:

Mechanism of Action
Histamine H1 Receptor Antagonist: Azelastine works by selectively antagonizing histamine H1 receptors, which helps to inhibit the action of histamine and relieve allergic symptoms.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties: It also stabilizes mast cells, preventing the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators. This reduces nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.

Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: When administered intranasally, azelastine has a bioavailability of around 40%. It is absorbed rapidly with an onset of action within 15 minutes3.

Metabolism: Metabolized mainly in the liver by the enzyme CYP3A4.

Half-life: The elimination half-life is approximately 22 hours.

Excretion: Primarily excreted via the urine as metabolites.

Clinical Uses

NEOSPORIN Antibiotic Ointment/Cream | Uses, Directions, & Side Effects | Dr. Eilbra Younan
NEOSPORIN Antibiotic Ointment/Cream | Uses, Directions, & Side Effects | Dr. Eilbra Younan Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

In this video, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Neosporin, including what it is, how to use it, the differences between ointment and cream, its availability, and possible side effects:

• What is Neosporin?: Neosporin is a popular antibiotic ointment or cream designed to prevent infections in minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. It contains three active ingredients—bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B—which work together to kill bacteria and speed up healing.

• How to use Neosporin:
1. Clean the wound: Gently wash the affected area with soap and water.
2. Apply a thin layer: Use a small amount of Neosporin and apply a thin layer over the wound.
3. Cover if needed: If the wound is in an area prone to irritation, cover it with a clean bandage.
4. Reapply 1-3 times daily: For best results, reapply Neosporin as directed, usually 1-3 times a day until the wound is fully healed.

• Ointment vs. Cream:
o Neosporin Ointment: Thick and greasy, great for deeper wounds, dry or cracked skin, or wounds that benefit from a moist healing environment, such as post-surgical wounds.
o Neosporin Cream: Lighter, non-greasy, and easily absorbed, ideal for smaller cuts, facial wounds, or areas that need quick absorption like your hands or face.

• Availability: Neosporin is available over-the-counter (OTC) in most drugstores. For more serious wounds, doctors may prescribe a stronger version, which is often covered by insurance.

• Side Effects: Side effects are generally mild but may include skin irritation, redness, or itching. Rare allergic reactions can occur, especially if you're sensitive to one of the active ingredients.

Bactrim Side Effects: Empowering Health in the Treatment of Infections
Bactrim Side Effects: Empowering Health in the Treatment of Infections Side Effects 1 Views • 5 months ago

Common side effects of Bactrim. Bactrim, a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, is widely prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections. While it is generally well-tolerated, there are some common side effects that users may experience. It is important to be aware of these side effects to ensure your health and well-being during the course of treatment.
One of the most common side effects of Bactrim is gastrointestinal discomfort. This may manifest as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and self-limiting, resolving on their own without any specific intervention. It is recommended to take Bactrim with food to minimize the likelihood of experiencing these side effects. If the symptoms persist or become severe, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider.
Another common side effect of Bactrim is a skin rash. This can range from a mild, itchy rash to a more severe allergic reaction. It is important to differentiate between a simple rash and a potentially serious allergic reaction. If you develop a rash while taking Bactrim, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider. They will assess the severity of the rash and determine whether it is safe for you to continue taking the medication.
In addition to gastrointestinal discomfort and skin rash, some individuals may experience other common side effects such as headache, dizziness, or fatigue. These symptoms are generally transient and resolve on their own. However, if they persist or become bothersome, it is recommended to discuss them with your healthcare provider. They may be able to suggest strategies to alleviate these symptoms or adjust the dosage of Bactrim if necessary.
Overall, the common side effects of Bactrim are usually manageable and do not pose a significant risk to most individuals. However, it is important to be vigilant and monitor your symptoms closely. If any unusual or severe side effects occur, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. Your healthcare provider will be able to assess the situation and provide appropriate guidance to ensure your safety and well-being.
Serious side effects of Bactrim.
While Bactrim is generally considered safe, there are some rare but serious side effects that can occur. It is important to be aware of these potential risks and seek medical attention if you experience any unusual symptoms while taking this medication.
One of the most concerning serious side effects of Bactrim is an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can range from mild skin rashes to severe anaphylaxis, a life-threatening condition. If you develop symptoms such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention. Allergic reactions can be serious and require prompt intervention to prevent complications.
Another serious side effect of Bactrim is liver damage. Although rare, Bactrim can cause elevated liver enzymes and liver toxicity in some individuals. Symptoms of liver damage may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), abdominal pain, dark urine, or unexplained fatigue. If you experience any of these symptoms while taking Bactrim, it is important to notify your healthcare provider immediately. They will assess the severity of the symptoms and may recommend discontinuing the medication if necessary.
Bactrim can also affect blood cell counts, leading to a decrease in white blood cells, red blood cells, or platelets. This can result in an increased risk of infections, anemia, or bleeding problems. If you notice any signs of infection, such as fever, sore throat, or persistent fatigue, or if you experience unusual bleeding or bruising, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider. They will evaluate your blood cell counts and determine the appropriate course of action.
While these serious side effects are rare, it is important to be aware of their potential occurrence. If you experience any unusual symptoms or have concerns about the possible side effects of Bactrim, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider. They will be able to evaluate your specific situation and provide personalized advice to ensure your health and well-being.
