PODCAST host Joe Rogan has claimed his doctor prescribed him the controversial horse deworming medicine Ivermectin to tackle COVID-19.
The 54-year-old made the claims as he returned to hosting his Joe Rogan Experience for the first time since beating the virus.
Rogan, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 eight days ago, said he took a human version of the drug, which can be used in animals and humans to treat parasites.
So, what is ivermectin, is it really for horses and can it treat covid-19?
The Sun's Head Of Health Lizzie Parry has the answers in this week's Health Check.

8:25 Learn more about magnesium!
Let’s talk about the unique benefits of magnesium glycinate. Magnesium is involved in over 300 different enzymes and comes in a lot of different forms.
Magnesium glycinate is a combination of magnesium and the amino acid glycine. This combination increases absorption in the intestine. Magnesium oxide, sulfate, carbonate, and hydroxide are all poorly absorbed.
Magnesium glycinate is also very gentle on your stomach and is less likely to cause diarrhea, like other forms of magnesium can.
Top benefits of magnesium glycinate:
• It promotes overall relaxation and muscle relaxation
• It supports sleep and may help with insomnia
• It improves energy during the day
• It supports healthy blood pressure
• It regulates calcium
• It reduces the risk of kidney stones
• It increases insulin sensitivity and promotes healthy blood sugar
• It may help with migraines
• It may help with depression and anxiety
• It may help reduce stress
To increase the absorption even more, find a magnesium glycinate supplement that also contains vitamin D3 and vitamin B6.
You can take magnesium glycinate with or without food. The best time to take this form of magnesium is right before bed. However, taking it at other times of the day won’t make you feel tired, just relaxed. Consider taking between 100 mg to 400 mg daily, depending on the severity of the issue.
Taking high amounts of magnesium glycinate over time may lead to slightly lower blood pressure or contribute to diarrhea. Also, keep in mind that magnesium glycinate may interfere with certain medications.
To get more magnesium in your diet, start consuming more leafy green vegetables.

Learn about metoprolol side effects from a pharmacist. Metoprolol, which is available in the immediate-release form as Lopressor® (metoprolol tartrate) or the extended-release form as Toprol-XL® (metoprolol succinate), has a number of side effects ranging from something as simple as diarrhea to things as life-threatening as hypotension, bradycardia, and difficulty breathing. Here, the pharmacist explains how many of the most common side effects can be linked directly to metoprolol's mechanism of action as a beta receptor blocking agent. The pharmacist also warns about the risk of heart attack and ventricular arrhythmias associated with abruptly stopping metoprolol, and the risks associated with using high doses of metoprolol in patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory painkiller. It is used to manage pain and inflammation in adults and adolescents over the age of 16 suffering from various kinds of arhtritis, as well as gout, and severe period pain.
Naproxen is a type of medicine called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID for short. It provides relief in pain and inflammation in arthritis by blocking the production of substances in the body called prostaglandins. When prostaglandins are produced, they promote swelling, pain, and inflammation in the body in response to injury. Hence, by decreasing their production, felbinac reduces pain and inflammation in the body.

Omeprazole side effects long term use. Taking Omeprazole 20 mg or 40 mg? Find out Omeprazole how does it work. Prilosec side effects.

What is omeprazole 20 mg used for?
Omeprazole is a medicine used to treat conditions caused by too much acid in the stomach such as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD, erosive esophagitis, which is acid related damage to the esophagus, stomach and duodenal ulcers, stomach infections caused by H.Pylori, and for the rare disease called Zollinger Ellison syndrome.
Omeprazole how does it work?
Omeprazole is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor. Like other proton pump inhibitors you may have heard of, pantoprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, omeprazole works to decrease the amount of acid your stomach produces. It does this by blocking a system in the cells of your stomach called the proton pump. So when omeprazole blocks these pumps, and essentially turns them off, your stomach makes less acid, which helps decrease your GI symptoms. And when it comes to H. pylori infections, it works against the bacteria by blocking H. Pylori urease, which is an important enzyme that the bacteria needs to grow.
Omeprazole side effects long term which also include prilosec side effects. This includes side effects of omeprazole 20 mg and omeprazole 40 mg.
Omeprazole side effects and prilosec side effects have both short term and long term side effects. Like all medicines, omeprazole can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Short term omeprazole side effects are headache, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, and dizziness which are some of the more common ones.
For omeprazole side effects long term use, there are 6 conditions to keep in mind. This goes for prilosec side effects if taking for the same amount of time.
1.) A vitamin b12 deficiency. This usually may happen with prolonged use for more than 1-2 years.
2.) A lower level of magnesium. This usually may happen with prolonged use of more than 3 months.
3.) Fundic gland polyps. This usually may happen with prolonged use of more than one year
4.) An increased risk of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea, which is more common in hospitalized patients taking omeprazole.
5.) Osteoporosis related bone fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine. This may happen with high doses used for a long period of time
6.) Pneumonia. Whenever we lower the acid in our stomachs, we become at more risk for infections as bacteria can live more easily in the upper GI tract without the acidic environment destroying them.

Sildenafil, also known as Viagra, is a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
It is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
In this video, I will discuss the common adverse effects of sildenafil.
Sildenafil is well-tolerated by most individuals.
Mild side effects may include the following.
Gastrointestinal problems such as dyspepsia.
Headache.
Flushing.
Nasal congestion, and nasopharyngitis.
One of the more serious adverse effects is prolonged, painful erection, lasting more than six hours.
Patients are advised to seek immediate medical attention in such instances.
If left untreated, it can lead to permanent penile tissue damage.
Another rare, but one of the serious side effects is visual disturbances, which can lead to sudden loss of vision.
Patients should discontinue the drug and seek immediate medical attention in such situations to prevent permanent visual loss.
Sudden hearing loss is another serious adverse effect that should be addressed immediately.

This medicine lowers blood sugar by helping the pancreas make more insulin, lowering the amount of sugar your liver makes, and slowing the rate food passes through your body, making you feel full longer.
It does this by activating the two receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which are natural incretin hormones that help regulate blood sugar levels.
Mounjaro injection became an FDA-approved medicine on May 13, 2022, to improve blood sugar (glucose) levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when used together with diet and exercise.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia, and abdominal pain, which affects 5% or more patients.
