Eliquis: The Revolutionary Anticoagulant for Stroke and Blood Clot Prevention
Eliquis: The Revolutionary Anticoagulant for Stroke and Blood Clot Prevention Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

How does Eliquis work?.
Eliquis is a type of anticoagulant medication that works by inhibiting the activity of a blood clotting protein called Factor Xa. This protein is responsible for the formation of blood clots, and by inhibiting its activity, Eliquis helps to prevent the formation of these clots. Unlike other anticoagulants, such as warfarin, Eliquis does not require regular blood tests to monitor its effectiveness. This is because Eliquis has a predictable and consistent effect, which means that the dosage can be easily adjusted based on the patient's age, weight, and medical history.
Eliquis is taken orally, and it is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream. It has a half-life of approximately 12 hours, which means that it stays in the body for a relatively short period of time. This makes it a good option for patients who need to undergo surgery or other invasive procedures, as it can be discontinued quickly and does not require a lengthy waiting period before the procedure can be performed.
Overall, Eliquis is a highly effective anticoagulant medication that can help to prevent blood clots and strokes in patients with a variety of medical conditions.
Benefits of using Eliquis.
There are several benefits to using Eliquis as an anticoagulant medication. One of the main benefits is that it is highly effective at preventing blood clots and strokes, making it a valuable treatment option for patients who are at risk of these conditions. Additionally, Eliquis has a lower risk of causing bleeding complications than other anticoagulants, such as warfarin. This is because Eliquis has a more targeted effect on Factor Xa, which means that it is less likely to interfere with other blood clotting proteins.
Comparison with other anticoagulants.
Eliquis is just one of several anticoagulant medications that are available on the market today. Other commonly used anticoagulants include warfarin, dabigatran, and rivaroxaban. While all of these medications work by inhibiting blood clotting proteins, there are some key differences between them.
One of the main differences between Eliquis and warfarin is that Eliquis does not require regular blood tests to monitor its effectiveness. Warfarin, on the other hand, does require regular blood tests to ensure that the patient is receiving the appropriate dose. Additionally, warfarin has a higher risk of causing bleeding complications than Eliquis, which can be a significant disadvantage for some patients.
Usage and dosage of Eliquis.
Eliquis is typically prescribed for patients who are at risk of blood clots and strokes due to medical conditions such as atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, or pulmonary embolism. The dosage of Eliquis can vary depending on the patient's age, weight, and medical history, but it is typically taken twice a day in 2.5mg or 5mg doses.
It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider carefully, as taking too much or too little of the medication can have serious consequences. Additionally, it is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed, even if you feel better, as stopping the medication prematurely can increase the risk of blood clots and strokes.
Side effects of Eliquis.
Like all medications, Eliquis can cause side effects in some patients. The most common side effect of Eliquis is bleeding, which can occur in any part of the body. This can be a serious complication, especially if the bleeding is severe or occurs in a critical area such as the brain. Other side effects of Eliquis can include nausea, fatigue, and headache.
If you experience any side effects while taking Eliquis, it is important to notify your healthcare provider immediately. They may need to adjust your dosage or switch you to a different medication to help manage your symptoms.
Precautions before taking Eliquis.
Before taking Eliquis, it is important to inform your healthcare provider of any medical conditions you may have, as well as any medications or supplements you are taking. This can help to prevent drug interactions and ensure that Eliquis is safe and effective for you to take.
Additionally, it is important to avoid activities that can increase your risk of bleeding while taking Eliquis. This can include activities such as contact sports or heavy lifting.

Blood Thinners - What They Are, Who Needs Them, Side Effects & More
Blood Thinners - What They Are, Who Needs Them, Side Effects & More Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

Blood thinners are medicines that prevent blood clots from forming. They do not break up clots that you already have. But they can stop those clots from getting bigger. It's important to treat blood clots, because clots in your blood vessels and heart can cause heart attacks, strokes, and blockages.
Who needs blood thinners?

You may need a blood thinner if you have:

Certain heart or blood vessel diseases
An abnormal heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation
A heart valve replacement
A risk of blood clots after surgery
Congenital heart defects

What are the different types of blood thinners?

There are different types of blood thinners:

Anticoagulants, such as heparin or warfarin (also called Coumadin), slow down your body's process of making clots.
Antiplatelets, such as aspirin and clopidogrel, prevent blood cells called platelets from clumping together to form a clot. Antiplatelets are mainly taken by people who have had a heart attack or stroke.

How can I take blood thinners safely?

When you take a blood thinner, follow the directions carefully. Blood thinners may interact with certain foods, medicines, vitamins, and alcohol. Make sure that your health care provider knows all of the medicines and supplements you are using.

You may need regular blood tests to check how well your blood is clotting. It is important to make sure that you're taking enough medicine to prevent clots, but not so much that it causes bleeding.
What are the side effects of blood thinners?

Bleeding is the most common side effect of blood thinners. They can also cause an upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea.

Other possible side effects can depend on which type of blood thinner that you are taking.

2. What is Effexor used for?
"Effexor is used as a mood elevator. It is used for people who are suffering from depression, suffering from being morose....to help kind of give them a lift." - Lyle Murphy

The problem with Effexor is it's not sustainable. It likely is not any more sustainable than lifting someone's spirits with Methamphetamines. Effexor really can take a toll on someone's nervous system.

3. What do I need to know about Effexor Withdrawal?
Effexor is actively restricting the re-uptake of Serotonin or Norepinephrine. The Serotonin aspect of this medication is meant to assist with impulse control, symptoms like suicidal ideations. The Norepinephrine aspect acts more like a stimulant, to assist with focus, and elevating an individual's temperament.

"This drug is not actively making Serotonin, it's not making Norepinephrine. On some level, it's spending it" - Lyle Murphy

Warning: Due to the short half-life of Effexor, medication withdrawal symptoms may come on faster. For more information on Effexor Withdrawal Symptoms and Side-Effects please visit:
https://www.alternativetomeds.....com/antidepressants/

4. How can I support my Effexor withdrawal naturally?
There are ways to support it naturally, and there are ways to support it using bridge medications. Another thing people use to help the Effexor Withdrawal process is titration compounding.

To view more about Effexor Alternatives visit:
https://www.alternativetomeds.....com/blog/effexor-alt

"If you can stop the Serotonin plunge, and just be dealing with the Norepinephrine plunge, you can change the withdrawal specifications of this medication from being a dual-pronged thing to being more singular at least." - Lyle Murphy

5. What types of people might not tolerate Effexor well?

Anyone that has anxiety, mania, psychosis...anyone that tends to be a bit high strung, this medication could make them more than high-strung, and leave them completely in panic.

"The short term gains [ of Effexor ] are not often not worth the long term consequences" - Lyle Murphy

6. What are some of the side effects of Effexor?
Excitability, being over-revved, not being able to sleep, abject panic...

Here are some potential benefits and uses of Echinacea:

Boosting the Immune System: Echinacea is probably best known for its effects on the immune system. Many studies suggest that echinacea can shorten the duration and severity of colds and other upper respiratory infections when taken at the first sign of symptoms.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Echinacea has been found to have anti-inflammatory effects, which could potentially aid in the management of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease.

Antioxidant Properties: Echinacea contains compounds such as cichoric acid, flavonoids, rosmarinic acid, and others that have antioxidant properties, which may help protect the cells in your body from damage.

Antimicrobial Properties: Echinacea has been shown in lab studies to have antimicrobial effects, including against viruses and bacteria.

Skin Health: Due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, echinacea can be beneficial for skin health, potentially helping to reduce inflammation and control acne.

Potential Anti-Cancer Effects: Some lab and animal studies suggest that echinacea could have anti-cancer properties, but more research in humans is needed to confirm these effects.

While echinacea is generally considered safe for most people, it can cause side effects, especially in those with allergies to plants in the daisy family. Side effects can include rash, itchy skin, hives, swelling, stomach pain, nausea, and shortness of breath.

The video discusses the use of duloxetine, also known as Cymbalta, in pain treatment, particularly focusing on conditions like diabetic peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and chronic musculoskeletal pain. It outlines various medical associations' endorsements of duloxetine for managing different types of pain, such as diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis, including a thorough Duloxetine review. The presenter highlights that while duloxetine isn't a cure-all, it can help alleviate pain by a point or two on pain scales, which may be appreciated by patients who understand its limitations. The effectiveness of duloxetine varies across conditions, with moderate evidence supporting its use in diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia, with specific emphasis on Cymbalta for Pain and Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia, but less clarity for other types of pain. Additionally, the video touches upon the use of duloxetine for comorbid conditions like depression and anxiety, where it can offer a two-in-one approach. However, it cautions against viewing duloxetine as superior to other antidepressants solely for depression treatment. Overall, duloxetine is portrayed as a valuable option for managing pain, especially when addressing multiple symptoms simultaneously, but it's not a standalone solution and its efficacy varies depending on the condition being treated.

Uses of Dulcolax
Dulcolax is used to treat constipation.
It may also be used to clean out the intestines before a bowel examination/surgery.
Dulcolax is known as a stimulant laxative.
It works by increasing the movement of the intestines, helping the stool to come out.
How to use Dulcolax
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor.
If you are self-treating, follow all directions on the product package.
If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Swallow this medication whole.

Do not take this medication for more than 7 days unless directed by your doctor. Serious side effects may occur with overuse of this medication (see also Side Effects section).

Doxylamine Pharmacology
Doxylamine Pharmacology Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

In the podcast this week, I talk about doxylamine pharmacology. Doxylamine is a first-generation antihistamine; it is commonly an active ingredient in night-time medications like Unisom, Nyquil, and Mucinex. The pharmacology of doxylamine is similar to other first-generation antihistamines, it competitively inhibits the binding of histamine at H1 receptors. Its main uses are as sleep aides, in cough-and-cold medications, but doxylamine has also been given with pyridoxine to treat nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Doxylamine’s adverse reactions are related to its anticholinergic properties, they include dry eyes, dry mouth, increased fall risk, sedation, urinary retention, constipation, and confusion. Contraindications include concurrent use with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, known hypersensitivities, concomitant alcohol use, and if the patient has the following conditions: elevated intraocular pressure, narrow-angle glaucoma, asthma, peptic ulcer disease, urinary bladder neck obstruction, or gastric outlet obstruction. It is also a Beer’s list drug due to its anticholinergic effects. The normal dose in adults is 25 mg. In cases of overdosage, the most common manifestation is exacerbations of its anticholinergic effects. The major complications of an overdose include arrhythmia, respiratory failure, seizures, hyperthermia, rhabdomyolysis, and coma.

When you know a patient is taking doxylamine, it’s important to be cognizant of their occupation, as well as what other conditions they may have. For example, doxylamine should be used with caution in patients that drive heavy machinery due to its sedating properties. You might be able to tell if a patient’s experiencing an adverse reaction exacerbation if they begin having worsening dementia symptoms or increased urinary retention. Other indications include the use of artificial tears, or saliva, or increased complaints of constipation. To monitor for doxylamine, it’s important to monitor the patient’s tolerability. The onset of doxylamine is relatively quick as well, with a peak concentration within 2-4 hours.

For drug-drug interactions, CYP interactions aren’t as concerning as usual. The main interaction to consider when a patient is taking doxylamine is additive anticholinergic effects. Sedative effects can increase when benzodiazepines, skeletal muscle relaxants, opioids, or antihistamines are concurrently taken. Doxylamine can also counteract the usefulness of dementia or BPH medications due to its anticholinergic properties. There is also a risk of increased anticholinergic burden when taken with skeletal muscle relaxants or tricyclic antidepressants.

Doxylamine succinate is a first-generation antihistamine. That's why it has a central effect on our bodies. This is also the reason why it is used as a sedative agent in Unisom.

Benadryl also has a first-generation antihistamine for its active ingredient diphenhydramine. This drug is mostly used to treat allergies but since it has a strong sedative action, people use it to help with insomnia too. Its relaxing effect is useful in preventing and treating motion sickness.

Effectivity and dosage: adults and teens above 12 years can take one Unisom SleepTabs 30 minutes before their bedtime. However, many users recommend that you start with a smaller dosage and slowly increase it until you find the dosage that fits you.

Also, remember that it's only meant for occasional sleeplessness. You shouldn’t take it for more than 14 days. Otherwise, your body will get accustomed to getting help in falling asleep, making it harder for you to sleep. The effects of doxylamine can last up to 10 or 12 hours. Make sure to only take it when you have ample time to sleep.

You can take up to 50 mg of diphenhydramine to help you to fall sleep. That means you can only take 2 Benadryl UltraTabs max. Only adults and children older than 12 should take Benadryl as a sleep aid. You can expect Benadryl to start to kick in about half an hour after taking it. After that, you’ll be able to feel its effects for 4-6 hours. Just like Unisom, only take Benadryl as a sleep medication occasionally.

Take note of the following precautions when taking Unisom:
Though doxylamine is regarded as safe for pregnant women, the drug can pass through breast milk. It's not recommended that lactating mothers take this sleep aid.
Kids under 12 should not take Unisom.
It's non-habit forming but can cause dependence if taken for a long time

If you’re planning to take Benadryl, here are some things that you need to keep in mind:
Never do anything that requires concentration after taking Benadryl. This includes driving and operating machinery.
Do not take tranquilizers or consume alcohol if you’ve taken this sleep aid.
If you have a history of conditions such as glaucoma, heart disease, diabetes, and asthma, check with your doctor first before taking Benadryl. The same goes if you’re currently taking medication or supplements.

In Conclusion, Unisom and Benadryl are both fast-acting, affordable and very effective sleep aids that can be bought without a prescription.

Their key difference lies in their half-life which is longer for Unisom and that Benadryl is also an allergy medicine.

So, if you’re not sick and just want to get some rest, I suggest trying out the Unisom first.

The active ingredient of the otc sleeping medications is either doxylamine or diphenhydramine. Both doxylamine and diphenhydramine are First Generation antihistamines. These antihistamines can cross the blood-brain barrier and have anticholinergic activity. Therefore, They can cause significant side effects.
The side effects include: Next-day drowsiness, constipation, dizziness, difficulty urinating, blurry vision, confusion, impaired coordination, paradoxical excitation, headache, dry mouth, nose, and/or throat etc.
Alcohol should be avoided when taking these medications because alcohol can aggravate the side effects of the medications. In addition, you should not combine OTC sleep drugs with other medications that contain 1st generation antihistamines such as Benadryl. Long-term use of diphenhydramine or benadryl has been associated with an increased risk of dementia.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine does not recommend the use of diphenhydramine for insomnia. Similarly, doxylamine is not recommended for insomnia treatment either.
The American Geriatrics Society also advises against the use of these OTC sleep drugs in people 65 and older because of risks such as confusion, constipation, dry mouth, and cognitive decline.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine does not recommend the use of melatonin, tryptophan or valerian as a treatment for insomnia in adults.

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia provided by a counselor or a psychotherapist is recommended as a first-line treatment for insomnia.
OTC Sleeping medications may be used occasionally as adjunct treatment.
Routine use of otc sleeping medications for more than 2 weeks is not recommended
