Today, we'll delve into the intricacies of laxative use, discussing what to expect and how to manage potential side effects.

Understanding Laxatives:
Laxatives are a common over-the-counter remedy for relieving constipation. They work by promoting bowel movements, but like any medication, they may come with side effects that vary from person to person.

Common Types of Laxatives:

Bulk-forming Laxatives: Increase stool bulk for easier passage.
Stimulant Laxatives: Trigger contractions in the intestines to move stool.
Osmotic Laxatives: Draw water into the intestines to soften stool.
Common Side Effects:

Diarrhea: One of the most common side effects, laxatives can lead to loose and watery stools.
Cramps and Abdominal Pain: Stimulant laxatives may cause cramps as they stimulate intestinal contractions.
Dehydration: Osmotic laxatives can lead to fluid loss, potentially causing dehydration.
Electrolyte Imbalance: Prolonged use of laxatives may disturb the balance of essential electrolytes in the body.
Dependency: Regular use of laxatives can lead to the body becoming reliant on them for bowel movements.
Managing Side Effects:

Stay Hydrated: Counteract the dehydrating effects by drinking plenty of water.
Balanced Diet: Ensure a diet rich in fiber to promote regular bowel movements naturally.
Limit Use: Avoid prolonged and excessive use of laxatives to prevent dependency.
Consult a Healthcare Professional: If side effects persist or worsen, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Precautions and Considerations:
Before using laxatives, it's important to consider certain precautions.

Underlying Conditions: Individuals with certain medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before using laxatives.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should seek guidance from a healthcare provider before using laxatives.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, while laxatives can be effective for managing constipation, understanding their potential side effects is crucial. By being aware of what to expect and taking necessary precautions, individuals can use laxatives responsibly to achieve digestive relief.

Amlodipine Weird Side Effects (Skin, Gastrointestinal, Psychological) Side Effects 1 Views • 3 months ago

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension and anginal chest pain. It acts to inhibit or “block” the voltage-gated L-type calcium channels, reducing vasoconstriction and promoting vasodilation to lower blood pressure. However, due to this mechanism, amlodipine can cause a wide variety of side effects, which we discuss in this lesson.

Clozapine side effects: What causes sedation and what to do about it?
Clozapine side effects: What causes sedation and what to do about it? Side Effects 1 Views • 3 months ago

Clozapine is the most effective of all antipsychotic medications. And for many people with schizophrenia, clozapine is a game-changing treatment that makes it possible to go back to school, go back to work, live independently, or be in relationships.

It does have side effects (all medicines do), but many of them can be prevented or minimized.

Sedation is one of the most common of clozapine’s side effects, and this lecture talks possible causes and potential treatments for clozapine-associated sedation.

Here, we look at the prevalence of clozapine-associated sedation, discuss pharmacological actions of clozapine that may contribute to sedation, and survey some treatment strategies to reduce or eliminate this side effect.

If you’d like to learn more about clozapine, feel free to register for one of our free online continuing medical education events. In this episode the surgeons discuss a journal article about the benefits of statins. This article suggests that the health benefits are not as significant as previously thought.

Here Is What To Do For B12 Side Effects
Here Is What To Do For B12 Side Effects Side Effects 1 Views • 3 months ago

Are you having B12 side effects? Maybe you're having heart palpitations, anxiety, headaches, things like this can be associated with B12 in some circumstances. In this video we're gonna go into what you can do when you're having B12 side effects, how to get over that hump and still be able to take the b12 .

Are you having B12 side effects? Maybe you're having heart palpitations, anxiety, headaches, things like this can be associated with B12 in some circumstances. My name's Dr. Terry, and in this video we're gonna go into what you can do when you're having B12 side effects, how to get over that hump and still be able to take the b12. All right, let's connect the dots on B12 side.

So B12 side effects are not very common, but they can occur and sometimes it's hard to know ahead of time which people are gonna have those side effects. So in this video, I want to go into some of the problems and solutions that you can use to get over this hump if it's happening to you. Now, first things first, we wanna assume that you have a really good reason to be taking b12.

Either you're deficient in some way, suboptimal levels. Maybe your doctor told you you need to take b12. Some good reason to. So now you get your b12, you start taking it, and all of a sudden you start having these side effects. What are you gonna do then? Well, first thing I want you to do is look at the type of B12 that you have.

So B12 is a cobalamin molecule with a charge to it, which means it has to be bound to something else. So there's four things that it could be bound to. It could be bound to a methyl group, a hydroxyl group, an adenosyl group, or a cyano group. So usually it's from one of these groups rather than the cyano-molecule itself that's causing the issues.

So first you wanna check which type of B12 you're actually taking. The most common let's distributed and sold is actually the cyanocobalmin and the cyano is basically a cyanide molecule. Of course, cyanide is toxic substance. So why they're still making this. I don't know, but that definitely could be causing some of your side effects, so you wanna avoid that one.

The next one that can cause side effects, but is also commonly used because of its benefits is the methyl. Now generally, this is the type that I recommend and use initially, especially in people that I don't expect to have these kinds of side effects. But because it has the benefits of improving energy, helping with mental clarity and things that B12 are generally associated with in terms of helping you feel better.

However, if you're someone that tends to get more anxiety, sleep disturbance, inflammation, and generally just don't do well with vitamins, medications, supplementation in general, you may wanna start with a different type. That type is gonna be hydroxyl or Aden. These are just less likely to cause the issue.

They're still gonna have the caalin molecule that's gonna support your overall B12 levels. So check out the description for a link for one that you can trust and remember, this isn't the only reason that people get side effects from b12. There's several others, and I've gone into that in other videos.

So if you're still having problems or you're curious, Check out those videos as well. So that's all I had for this video on what to do for B12 side effects. So what do you think? Did this help you with your B12 side effects?
