Dangerous Side Effects
Question: Are the concerns about cyanocobalamin exaggerated?
I'm not sure what people have said about the dangers. I know that I have been a critic of cyanocobalamin relative to other forms of B12 and then, other people may have used something I said maybe in an exaggerated way. And then there might be just much marketing that I haven't actually been exposed to where people have come up with their own marketing claims around other forms of B12.
So my opinion is basically as follows: number one, the amount of cyanide that would be released from taking even high doses of cyanocobalamin is very small. And so I don't think taking cyanocobalamin is dangerous in any context that I can think of so that's number one. But number two, one of our mechanisms for detoxifying cyanide, and it's not the only mechanism, but it's one of the key mechanisms is to join the cyanide, to cobalamin, to pee it out in the urine.

Hydralazine (Apresoline) – Uses, Side Effects, Mechanism of Action, Dosage, Interactions, Warnings
Hydralazine, sold under the brand name Apresoline, is a direct-acting vasodilator primarily used to treat moderate to severe hypertension, including hypertensive crises, and to manage chronic heart failure—especially in patients intolerant to ACE inhibitors or ARBs. It is also considered relatively safe for controlling high blood pressure during pregnancy, such as in pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. Hydralazine works by relaxing arteriolar smooth muscle, reducing systemic vascular resistance and afterload, although it may cause reflex tachycardia due to sympathetic stimulation. Oral dosing typically starts at 10 mg four times daily, with maintenance doses ranging up to 100 mg four times daily; intravenous administration is reserved for acute settings. Common side effects include headache, dizziness, palpitations, and flushing, while serious effects may include drug-induced lupus, peripheral neuropathy, and myocardial infarction. It interacts with various drugs such as beta-blockers, NSAIDs, MAO inhibitors, and other antihypertensives. Caution is advised in patients with ischemic heart disease or renal impairment, and monitoring is essential during prolonged use.

In addition to the huge variation in dose of B12 supplements, there are at least 4 different forms of the vitamin to choose from. The most common of these are cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin.
But which of these is better? And why do some people argue that you should never take cyanocobalamin and that it is tantamount to poison?
Indeed, why is there poison – cyanide – in cyanocobalamin at all? Should we be concerned that this is an unnatural form of the vitamin?
Today we'll be exploring the different forms of B12 with a special focus on cyano- and methylcobalamin given their ubiquity, including manufacture, safety and conversion issues – and how I arrived at my recommendation for the form you should take.
Please note that the discussion in this video applies to healthy people with no known issues with B12 utilisation, and you should persist with the regimen prescribed by your health care provider.

Can Tizanidine Help With Nerve Pain? In this informative video, we discuss the role of Tizanidine, also known as Zanaflex, in managing nerve pain. While primarily a muscle relaxant, Tizanidine acts on the central nervous system to alleviate muscle spasms, cramping, and tightness often associated with conditions such as multiple sclerosis or spinal injuries. However, its effectiveness for nerve pain, which stems from damaged or dysfunctional nerves, is less straightforward.
We will explore the current understanding of how Tizanidine may assist in cases where nerve pain is accompanied by muscle tightness or spasms. Although not approved as a first-line treatment for nerve pain, some studies suggest it may be beneficial for patients who haven't found relief with other therapies.
Throughout the video, we emphasize the importance of consulting with healthcare providers before considering Tizanidine for nerve pain management. We will also touch on potential side effects and the necessity of using this medication under medical supervision.
Join us as we unpack the complexities of Tizanidine and its applications in pain management. Don't forget to subscribe for more informative discussions on pain medicine and management strategies.
