10 Important Tips for Taking Synthroid: Dosing, Side Effects, T3 Medications & More
10 Important Tips for Taking Synthroid: Dosing, Side Effects, T3 Medications & More Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

10 important tips for taking Synthroid. This list includes how to dose Synthroid, the side effects of Synthroid, how Synthroid compares to T3 thyroid hormone, and more!

Today is all about Synthroid. If you take this medication then you'll want to learn more about these 10 tips and tricks that you can use to help feel better.

Synthroid is one of the most common thyroid medications used to treat hypothyroidism but it's not without problems.

These tips are designed to help you find your optimal dose, help you understand if you are absorbing Synthroid, help you figure out if you need a new medication and more.

10 Tips to know when taking Synthroid:

#1. Peripheral T4 to T3 conversion
First off, you need to understand that Synthroid contains the inactive thyroid hormone T4. This means that in order for thyroid hormone to be utilized in your body it must first be activated through peripheral thyroid conversion. Several factors including genetics, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies and so on can impact this process. There are situations in which you may be taking enough Synthroid but your body is not able to activate it.

#2. Absorption of Synthroid
In order for your body to use Synthroid, it must also be absorbed in your intestinal tract! Several medications, supplements, and even foods can impact how much you absorb. Do your best to take Synthroid away from supplements such as Calcium and Iron which can limit absorption.

#3. Are supplements helping or hurting you?
Some supplements can decrease absorption but there are others that can help. The use of Selenium and Zinc can help your body activate Synthroid after it is absorbed.

#4. The time of day that you take Synthroid
Synthroid can be safely taken in the morning but it can also be taken at night. Studies have shown that patients who take it in the evening actually have higher free T4 and free T3!

#5. Levothyroxine vs Synthroid: Are they the same?
Levothyroxine and Synthroid both contain the same active ingredient but they are not considered bio-equivalents.

#6. Tirosint

#7. Dosage

#8. Switching to NDT or T3 medication

#9. The full thyroid lab panel

These tests will give you an idea as to how your body is utilizing Synthroid.

#10. Synthroid side effects
Lastly, make sure that you watch our for the side effects of Synthroid which include:
- Weight gain
- Hair loss
- Heart palpitations
- Rashes
- Headaches
- Insomnia
- Hot flashes
- Changes in menstrual cycle

Any of these side effects may indicate you need to switch medications!

Symbicort dose counter not working?
Symbicort dose counter not working? Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Symbicort dose counter issue - is it not going down? Stuck? Not moving? You actually need to take around 20 doses until you will see some change, this is normal. The dose counter is there to just give you a rough estimate of how many doses are left. There is no reason to think that it is a broken Symbicort turbuhaler inhaler, just need to be patient and to continue taking it as prescribed by your doctor.

WHAT IS A TURBOHALER:
Turbohalers are commonly prescribed for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as they are very effective at delivering the medication straight to the lungs where it is needed. Using your turbohaler correctly is an important part of asthma or COPD treatment. You should be shown how to use turbohaler properly by a healthcare professional when they are first prescribed.

HOW TO USE A TURBOHALER:
Why is technique important,
• It allows the correct dose of medication to reach your lungs.
• It gives you better control of your condition.

Please watch the video for the full explanation on how to use a turbohaler and how to prime a new device,
1- Breathe out gently and slowly away from the inhaler until your lungs feel empty and you feel ready to breathe in.
2- Hold the inhaler horizontally, but don’t tip it upside down as the powder may fall out.
3- Place the mouthpiece between teeth without biting and close lips to form a good seal. Remember, do not cover the air vents.
4- Then breathe in forcefully as strongly and deeply as you can until your lungs are full. This is key to make sure that a full dose can reach your lungs.
5- You may not be able to sense if the medicine has entered your lungs from inhaling the device, this lack of sensation does not mean that it hasn't reached the lungs, you should not repeat the dose even if you do not feel this sensation.
6- For those of you who can’t inhale strongly or deeply, maybe a turbohaler isn’t the correct inhaler for you. You can usually tell if you can't breathe in enough by tasting the powder from the inhaler, as it can’t reach your lungs or with some inhalers, not hearing a ‘click’ sound. Please speak to a healthcare professional if this happens.
7- After inhaling take the inhaler out of your mouth and hold your breath for up to 10 seconds, or for as long as you comfortably can.
8- Then breathe out gently away from the inhaler. If you’ve been prescribed a second puff, repeat these steps.

Common mistakes that are made with Turbohalers include:
• Not holding the Turbohaler upright when loading the dose.
• Not twisting the grip in both directions to load the dose correctly.
• Not inhaling strongly enough to draw the medication out of the Turbohaler and in to your
lungs.
• Moisture from breathing out getting inside the Turbohaler and leaving the cover off.

Useful tips
• Place the Turbohaler on a table to keep it upright when loading the dose.
• Replace the cover after use.
• If your Turbohaler contains a corticosteroid rinse your mouth out with water after your
dose.
• Speak to your healthcare professional if you experience problems using your Turbohaler.
• Always read the patient leaflet provided with your Turbohaler for any specific instructions

Sumatriptan is a medication commonly used to treat migraines and cluster headaches. It belongs to a class of drugs known as triptans, which work by narrowing blood vessels in the brain and reducing inflammation, thereby relieving migraine symptoms. Migraines are neurological disorders that cause severe headaches, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Sumatriptan is designed to provide relief by targeting the underlying mechanisms that contribute to migraines. It is available in various forms, including tablets, nasal sprays, and injections, making it a versatile option for different patient needs.

FDA approves new nasal spray offering relief for migraine patients

For those who understand the debilitating effects of a migraine headache, knowing relief may be a spray away in 15 minutes could be a game changer.

"Given that it's an intranasal, it has fast onset, which is helpful for patients who have migraine peak very quickly," Dr. Emad Estemalik, headache specialist at Cleveland Clinic, said.

The FDA approved Pfizer's Zavzpret on Friday, and the drug is expected to have an official launch in July. We'll find out then how much it will cost, although Pfizer says it will be comparable to other migraine medications.

The spray is part of a class of drugs that stop migraines when they start.

"For a lot of patients who have significant nausea or vomiting, this is an ideal treatment because they don't have to take anything oral in terms of medication; just use an intranasal medication to quickly abort their migraines," Estemalik explained.

Zavzpret is approved for those with or without migraine auras. Studies showed the medication could give pain relief in 15 minutes, normal function in 30, and a return to normal in two hours. However, the label has a warning to stop taking it in case of facial swelling and skin rashes.

Is taking 2 doses of combination drug at one time for Migraine safe? - Dr. Pradeep Kumar T J
Is taking 2 doses of combination drug at one time for Migraine safe? - Dr. Pradeep Kumar T J Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Migraine is a condition which is related to vascular disorder of the blood vessels in the brain. It can experience excruciating hemicranial headaches associated with nausea, vomiting and photophobia, which is a discomfort on seeing lights. So they need to be treated again with a combination of drugs which are used to heal acute attacks and also drugs to prevent recurrent attacks. The drugs that are used to treat acute attacks are usually the 5 HT antagonists like sumatriptan, along with that we give a combination of analgesics, anti-nausea drugs, which is a combination domperidone and naproxen, which is the commonest combination that we use. But using this drug immediately reduces the intensity of the headache in half an hour period. In case the patients continue to have pain, there is no harm in taking a repeat dose of drug within 24 hours, a second dosage can be attempted. But at no given point of time, you need to repeat more than 2 drugs in a 24 hour interval. These are the treatment of acute attacks. In terms of preventing the attacks on a regular basis, we use a various drugs and the neurologist and the treating physician would help you to understand the limitation of these drugs, the usage of these drugs and the effects and the side effects of these drugs. So please consult your physician or neurologist for continuous headaches which are frequent, needs to be evaluated further with imaging studies.

A migraine is a medical disorder characterised by recurring headaches that are moderate to severe. Typically, a migraine headache will present as a throbbing pain on one side of the head, but it can often be both.

Unlike typical headaches, migraines often present with additional symptoms that can interfere with daily life. These symptoms can either appear before, during or after the pain phase of a migraine.

If you’re struggling with migraines, it’s important to remember that you’re not alone. Migraines are common in the UK, with as many as one in five women and one in 15 men suffering from the condition. Migraines will usually begin in early adulthood, and vary significantly in frequency from person to person. One migraine sufferer might experience an attack every six months; another might get one every few days.

Triptans are a family of medications used to treat migraines that do not respond to ordinary painkillers and rest. These treatments are said to work by binding to serotonin receptors in the brain’s blood vessels and nerve endings. This is then believed to block the release of inflammatory neuropeptides, which are protein-like molecules that neurons use to communicate with each other.

In this video, we take a look at how you can treat migraines safely with Sumatriptan.

The Dangers of Long-Term Nasal Decongestant Spray Use
The Dangers of Long-Term Nasal Decongestant Spray Use Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Topical decongestants are typically used to relieve nasal congestion due to allergic rhinitis, acute or chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps, or upper respiratory tract infections. However, long-term use of these nasal decongestants can cause rebound swelling of the nasal mucosa. This is called Rhinitis medicamentosa. And is classified as a subset of drug-induced rhinitis. The earliest nasal decongestants mainly derived from ephedrine showed rhinitis medicamentosa developing as early as 3 days after use and up to 4 to 6 weeks after use. All pharmacists therefore advise patients not to use decongestant sprays for more than 2 weeks.

Read the paper 'The Indispensable Nasal Decongestant: Patients’ Views and Perspectives on Nasal Decongestant Overuse' published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology:

Sucralfate Suspension: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Expert Tips for Ulcer Relief | MediInsights
Sucralfate Suspension: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Expert Tips for Ulcer Relief | MediInsights Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Welcome back to MediInsights, where we Unlock the Wonders of Wellness! In this video, we explore everything you need to know about Sucralfate Suspension—a powerful medication used to treat ulcers and protect the stomach lining.

In this video, we cover:
What is Sucralfate Suspension?
Sucralfate Suspension is primarily prescribed for the treatment of duodenal ulcers and other gastrointestinal conditions like GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). It works by forming a protective barrier on the ulcer, helping it to heal and preventing further damage from stomach acid.

Sucralfate Suspension Dosage and Administration:
Learn the correct dosage of Sucralfate Suspension to ensure its effectiveness. For most adults with active ulcers, the usual dose is 1 gram (10 mL) taken four times daily. Timing is key—make sure to take it on an empty stomach for best results.

Mechanism of Action of Sucralfate Suspension:
Sucralfate doesn’t neutralize stomach acid but instead creates a shield over ulcers. This protective layer helps the ulcer heal while preventing further irritation from stomach acid and digestive enzymes.

Side Effects of Sucralfate Suspension:
Like any medication, Sucralfate Suspension comes with potential side effects. Common ones include constipation, nausea, and dry mouth. Severe side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions or difficulty breathing. If you experience any concerning symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.

Important Advice for Using Sucralfate Suspension:
Follow these important tips to maximize the effectiveness of Sucralfate Suspension:

Take it on an empty stomach, either 1 hour before meals or 2 hours afterward.
Avoid taking other medications within 2 hours of using Sucralfate, as it may interfere with absorption.
Stay hydrated to prevent constipation, a common side effect.
If you’re dealing with ulcers or related gastrointestinal conditions, Sucralfate Suspension may be the solution you've been looking for!

Key Takeaways:
Uses: Effective treatment for ulcers, GERD, and stomach lining protection.
Dosage: 1 gram, four times a day, on an empty stomach.
Mechanism: Forms a protective barrier over ulcers to aid healing.
Side Effects: Constipation, nausea, dry mouth; rare severe allergic reactions.
Advice: Take on an empty stomach and avoid other meds within 2 hours.
