GUAIFENESIN AND CODEINE, guaifenesin codeine cough syrup, guaifenesin codeine 100 10
GUAIFENESIN AND CODEINE, guaifenesin codeine cough syrup, guaifenesin codeine 100 10 Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

GUAIFENESIN AND CODEINE, guaifenesin codeine cough syrup, guaifenesin codeine 100 10.

What is guaifenesin and codeine?

Guaifenesin and codeine cough syrup is a commonly prescribed medication to treat cough that combines the opioid painkiller codeine with the expectorant guaifenesin.

What is Codeine?

Codeine is a prescription opiate drug that’s used to treat mild to moderate pain, cough and sometimes diarrhea. It’s often used in combination with other substances, like paracetamol, to be more effective, and it’s considered a controlled substance in the U. S.

When someone takes codeine, it converts to morphine in their brain and then it binds to opioid receptors. This suppresses pain as well as the activity of the central nervous system. Codeine can be abused to get high because it can trigger feelings of euphoria as it binds to opioid receptors, but the effects are often less than other prescription opioids. There is also the risk for addiction and dependence, which is also lower compared to other opioids.

Some of the common side effects of codeine include:

Constipation
Nausea and vomiting
Drowsiness
Dizziness
Dry mouth
Headaches
While codeine may be less potent than other opioids, codeine overdose is possible and can be deadly.

What is Guaifenesin?

Guaifenesin is classified as an expectorant, meaning it can loosen congestion in the throat and chest. It’s given to people to reduce congestion in their chest resulting from allergies, infections or colds.

Some of the side effects of guaifenesin on its own can include headache, dizziness, rash, nausea, vomiting or general stomach discomfort.

Guaifenesin with codeine.

A doctor would prescribe codeine with guaifenesin to treat colds, allergies, or the flu in some cases. It’s not intended to treat a cough resulting from smoking or asthma. Some of the most common side effects of codeine with guaifenesin include constipation and drowsiness.

People are also warned against taking codeine with guaifenesin with other prescription narcotics or alcohol because it could lead to an opioid overdose. This often involves slowed or shallow breathing, which can lead to coma and death.

Guaifenesin and Codeine Cough Syrup.

Guaifenesin-Codeine cough syrup comes in many brand names, including Cheracol, Cheratussin and Robitussin AC. Codeine-guaifenesin cough syrup is taken by mouth every four to six hours, and people are encouraged to drink plenty of water when taking it to deal with constipation or nausea side effects.

This medication is a short-term treatment. People who take codeine guaifenesin cough syrup over the long term may experience withdrawal symptoms if they stop taking it suddenly.

It is possible to become addicted to codeine guaifenesin cough syrup, and people who are at a higher risk for a substance use disorder should let their doctor know before taking any medication with an opioid.

Guaifenesin Codeine 10-100.

There are different doses available for codeine-guaifenesin combinations, and one of the most commonly prescribed is codeine guaifenesin 10-100. The ten refers to 10 mg of codeine and 100 mg of guaifenesin. This is an oral, liquid version of the drug.

Taking Codeine with Guaifenesin.

It’s important to tell your doctor or pharmacist of any and all other substances you’re taking before taking codeine guaifenesin. Taking codeine guaifenesin with other medications that affect the central nervous system or slow respiration can lead to severe side effects and a potentially fatal overdose.

If you or your loved one is misusing codeine guaifenesin despite negative consequences, help is available.

Codeine and guaifenesin side effects.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Like other narcotic medications, codeine can slow your breathing. Death may occur if breathing becomes too weak.

A person caring for you should seek emergency medical attention if you have slow breathing with long pauses, blue colored lips, or if you are hard to wake up.

This medicine may cause serious side effects. Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

noisy breathing, sighing, shallow breathing;

a slow heart rate or weak pulse;

severe dizziness or drowsiness;

confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;

little or no urinating;

severe constipation; or

slow heart rate, weak or shallow breathing.

Serious side effects may be more likely in older adults and those who are overweight, malnourished, or debilitated.

Common side effects of codeine and guaifenesin may include:

constipation; or

mild drowsiness.

How to use Robafen - Explain Uses,Side Effects,Interactions
How to use Robafen - Explain Uses,Side Effects,Interactions Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Robafen, also known as Guaifenesin, is used to treat coughs and congestion caused by the common cold, bronchitis, and other breathing illnesses. This product is usually not used for ongoing cough from smoking or long-term breathing problems unless directed by your doctor. Guaifenesin is an expectorant, which means it works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways, clearing congestion, and making breathing easier. If you are self-treating with this medication, it is important to read the package instructions carefully before you start using this product to be sure it is right for you. Cough-and-cold products have not been shown to be safe or effective in children younger than 6 years, so do not use this product to treat cold symptoms in children younger than 6 years unless specifically directed by the doctor. Some products are not recommended for use in children younger than 12 years. It's essential to ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details about using your product safely. Remember, these products do not cure or shorten the length of the common cold. To decrease the risk for side effects, carefully follow all dosage directions, and avoid giving other cough-and-cold medication that might contain the same or similar ingredients. Ask the doctor or pharmacist about other ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms such as drinking enough fluids, using a humidifier or saline nose drops/spray.

Meanwhile, Guanfacine steps in as a selective alpha-2A agonist, perfectly tailored for ADHD treatment. Uncover its specialized role in strengthening neural networks and countering hyperarousal symptoms. Plus, we'll unravel the mystery of its minimal hypotensive effects and why it's a go-to option for certain cases.

Understanding these mechanisms is essential in comprehending how these Alpha-2 Agonists effectively manage ADHD symptoms.

But that's not all! We will also address a common concern - sleep disturbances. Many individuals with ADHD struggle with sleep issues, and we will discuss how these medications can impact sleep patterns.

Five Common Side Effects of Antipsychotic Medication
Five Common Side Effects of Antipsychotic Medication Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

In this video we’re going to discuss five common drug side effects from taking antipsychotic medication, and these are side effects we definitely want to know as a psych nurse or as a patient taking antipsychotic medication. I’m also going to be sharing a tip on how to remember these side effects. These side effects are very broad, and they more or less can occur w/ all antipsychotic medication. Before we discuss these side effects, here are some examples of antipsychotic medication: Zyprexa, Closaril, Thorazine, Seroquel, Haldol, Invega, Geodon, and Abilify. There are of course many more, I just wanted to give a few examples in case you were wondering what the names of some antipsychotic medications were. Also, some of these side effects I would simply consider as effects of the medications b/c they happen frequently and are, to some degree, expected effects.

The first common side effect of antipsychotic medication is sedation.

The second common side effect of antipsychotics is constipation.

The third common side effect of antipsychotics is weight gain.

The fourth common side effect of antipsychotics is involuntary movement disorders.

The fifth and last common side effect of antipsychotics is restlessness, also known as akathisia.

Is Haldol Neurotoxic?

Haloperidol is one of the most widely-used of the older "first-generation" antipsychotic medications. Some have suggested that it's a neurotoxin and should be taken off the market. But a lot of the evidence behind this claim isn't strong at all. In fact, many of the cited studies actually show that haloperidol is safe for nerve cells -- even at concentrations much higher than would ever occur in clinical practice.

In this lecture, I critique a review article that concludes that haloperidol is neurotoxic. I go through each of the cited studies and reveal how thin the evidence actually is.

I also can't help but notice that -- of all the antipsychotic medications one could focus on -- only haloperidol is singled out for this degree of scrutiny. And (I believe) it's more than just a coincidence that it's the only member of the first-generation class of medications that competes economically with the most expensive modern medicines. So I discuss in this talk the potential conflicts of interest behind the scenes of the haloperidol neurotoxicity issue.

This lecture was given at the June 9, 2020 meeting of the SZconsult learning community. Check out SZconsult.org for more information.

SZconsult is a free consultation + education service offered by Northeast Ohio Medical University. It's open to any clinician who wants to learn more about schizophrenia-spectrum illness, or who wants to tap into the collective wisdom of the learning community to find answers to clinical problems.

Esse é um dos medicamentos injetáveis mais prescrito no Brasil e muito usado na Europa onde 30% dos pacientes fazem uso apenas dessa medicação todo mês por preferência deles. A bula do haldol decanoato

O haloperidol é um potente antipsicótico e foi um dos primeiros a ser fabricado para ser aplicado apenas uma vez ao mês, pois a medicação é de depósito, isso significa que a medicação é liberada aos poucos e lentamente ao longo de 30 dias.

Heparin | Mechanism of Action, Indications, ADR’s, Contraindications
Heparin | Mechanism of Action, Indications, ADR’s, Contraindications Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Ninja Nerds!
In this cardiovascular pharmacology lecture, Professor Zach Murphy breaks down the pharmacology of Heparin, one of the most commonly used parenteral anticoagulants in acute care settings. This lecture covers its mechanism of action, clinical indications, and monitoring strategies with high clarity and clinical relevance.

We begin by discussing the mechanism of action of unfractionated heparin (UFH), which binds to antithrombin III and accelerates its inhibition of thrombin (factor IIa) and factor Xa, ultimately preventing fibrin clot formation. We compare this to low molecular weight heparins (LMWH)—such as enoxaparin—which have a more selective action against factor Xa.

You’ll learn the key differences between UFH and LMWH regarding administration routes, half-life, monitoring requirements (aPTT vs anti-Xa), and protamine sulfate reversal strategies. The lecture also discusses the serious complication of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), including its pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and alternative anticoagulant options like argatroban.

Clinical indications for heparin include venous thromboembolism (VTE) treatment and prophylaxis, acute coronary syndromes, atrial fibrillation, and perioperative anticoagulation.

Do blood thinners have any side effects during Pregnancy? - Dr. Mangala Devi KR
Do blood thinners have any side effects during Pregnancy? - Dr. Mangala Devi KR Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Like all drugs even blood thinners have a few side effects. However these side effects re due to prolonged use, used without proper monitoring, so what are the side effects? These side effects are usually due to bleeding at various sites. So there may be bleeding form the gums, bleeding form the teeth or even bleeding in the stools or vomitus or bleeding even during passing urine. Sometimes very rarely there may be bleed at the placental site. Hoverer this is very rare. Apart from this some of the not so common side effects include osteoporosis or increased bone loss or also hair loss or in some cases there may be also birth effects with the use of warfarin. But this is again with warfarin which tend to cross the placental barrier. But drugs like heparin or low molecular weight heparin are injectable or not cross the blood placental barrier and thereby their side effects are almost negligible on the fetus. Apart from this you may also have some local allergic reactions or even skin necrosis or skin discolouration. So it is every important that these side effects are made as minimal as possible. So these can be done by the following measures, one we use PTT or Prothrombin time or the APTT. These are certain blood tests that can be used to monitor the blood coagulation during the pregnancy and thereby we can prevent the bleeding complications. Apart from that it is also important that the doctor choses the right blood thinner for the right patients and it is also important that the patient is aware of the side effects and report immediately. At the most we may have to stop the blood thinner and start the antidote.
