Today, we'll delve into the intricacies of laxative use, discussing what to expect and how to manage potential side effects.

Understanding Laxatives:
Laxatives are a common over-the-counter remedy for relieving constipation. They work by promoting bowel movements, but like any medication, they may come with side effects that vary from person to person.

Common Types of Laxatives:

Bulk-forming Laxatives: Increase stool bulk for easier passage.
Stimulant Laxatives: Trigger contractions in the intestines to move stool.
Osmotic Laxatives: Draw water into the intestines to soften stool.
Common Side Effects:

Diarrhea: One of the most common side effects, laxatives can lead to loose and watery stools.
Cramps and Abdominal Pain: Stimulant laxatives may cause cramps as they stimulate intestinal contractions.
Dehydration: Osmotic laxatives can lead to fluid loss, potentially causing dehydration.
Electrolyte Imbalance: Prolonged use of laxatives may disturb the balance of essential electrolytes in the body.
Dependency: Regular use of laxatives can lead to the body becoming reliant on them for bowel movements.
Managing Side Effects:

Stay Hydrated: Counteract the dehydrating effects by drinking plenty of water.
Balanced Diet: Ensure a diet rich in fiber to promote regular bowel movements naturally.
Limit Use: Avoid prolonged and excessive use of laxatives to prevent dependency.
Consult a Healthcare Professional: If side effects persist or worsen, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Precautions and Considerations:
Before using laxatives, it's important to consider certain precautions.

Underlying Conditions: Individuals with certain medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before using laxatives.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should seek guidance from a healthcare provider before using laxatives.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, while laxatives can be effective for managing constipation, understanding their potential side effects is crucial. By being aware of what to expect and taking necessary precautions, individuals can use laxatives responsibly to achieve digestive relief.

💊Baclophin for Dystonia treatment: MY EXPERIENCE!
💊Baclophin for Dystonia treatment: MY EXPERIENCE! Side Effects 6 Views • 5 months ago

My personal journey with Baclofen for Dystonia treatment. Living with Dystonia, a movement disorder characterized by involuntary muscle contractions, can be incredibly challenging. I wanted to document my experience with Baclofen, a commonly prescribed medication, and shed light on its benefits as well as its potential side effects.

During the course of my treatment, I encountered a range of effects from Baclofen. While it did help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with Dystonia, such as spasticity, I also experienced various side effects. I believe it's important to share these experiences honestly to provide a comprehensive perspective.

One of the most significant side effects I experienced was excessive sleeping. Baclofen had a sedative effect on my body, causing me to feel excessively drowsy and fatigued throughout the day. Additionally, I faced moments of disorientation, which could be disconcerting and challenging to navigate.

Furthermore, dizziness became a common occurrence for me while taking Baclofen. It affected my balance and made even simple tasks more difficult. These side effects, while burdensome, are essential to discuss as they can significantly impact one's daily life.

It is worth noting that while Baclofen helped manage spasticity, its overall effectiveness in treating Dystonia may be limited. Every individual may respond differently to medications, and it is crucial to work closely with healthcare professionals to find the most suitable treatment plan.

By sharing my experience, I hope to provide insights and support to others who may be considering Baclofen or exploring alternative options for Dystonia treatment. Open conversations about the benefits and potential drawbacks of medications are crucial in making informed decisions about our health.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I encourage you to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments section below. Together, we can support and learn from one another. Stay strong, and let's continue seeking effective solutions for Dystonia treatment.

The FDA approved Strattera (atomoxetine) two decades ago as the first non-stimulant for the treatment of ADHD. Although designed with the hope of being an effective antidepressant, it had more clearcut results for ADHD. But from the beginning, many, many people haven’t responded well to the medication. It seems to take a long time to work, and lots of people have troubling side effects. And that’s not just in comparison to stimulants. A recent head to head comparison with another non-stimulant for ADHD, Qelbree (viloxazine) found that Strattera was less effective, had more side effects, and took longer to provide benefits.

If Strattera is working for you, great, keep taking it. But if your response is mediocre or worse, there are several other non-stimulants that might help you more, including Qelbree, Wellbutrin, guanfacine, and even Cymbalta (duloxetine).

My Experience With Propranolol For Anxiety
My Experience With Propranolol For Anxiety Side Effects 6 Views • 5 months ago

My Experience With Propranolol For Anxiety and how I have used this Beta Blocker.
Propranolol is a beta-blocker. Beta-blockers are used for the treatment of issues like heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure and performance anxiety.

Beta-blockers inhibit the action of adrenaline and noradrenaline. It slows down the fight or flight situation.

I first heard about beta-blockers in 2013 when a person using beta-blockers for performance anxiety told me about them. I got really curious and so I went to a doctor and asked them.

The doctor gave me propranolol medicine. 2 weeks later I had a presentation coming. 1 hour before the presentation I took one. After 1 hour I felt my hands getting colder and my nervous system slowed down, at least that’s how I felt.

I was still nervous in my head, but I had a calm demeanour. I did my presentation with ease, relaxed, it went pretty well.
I quickly learned that I could use them in anxious situations.

Propranolol is not like Xanax for example, that activates GABA and makes you relaxed. The medication just blocks your nervous system from going crazy.

For me, that’s all I needed: not going insane in front of people. It doesn’t take the anxiety away, but it helps you be in control of yourself.

t is much safer than benzo medications, where tolerance builds up very fast and it's easy to get addicted.

Like always there are side effects with medications. With propranolol I had cold hands, some nausea and I felt lethargic. That is why I only used when I needed it. Daily use was not for me.

I haven’t used it in a long time, but I still have the bottle at my house. You never know when it comes in need. I recommend it before taking Xanax route.

Gabapentin Weird Side Effects (Skin, Psychological, Eyes)

Gabapentin is a medication used to treat partial seizures and post-herpetic neuralgia. It is a GABA analog, and since GABA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, it acts as GABA to inhibit neuronal activity in general. However, due to this mechanism, gabapentin can cause a wide variety of side effects, which we discuss in this lesson.

Video Transcript:
The antibiotic Azithromycin has been in the news a lot.
It is said to treat COVID-19 patients.

What we must remember is that COVID-19 is an infection caused by the coronavirus, antibiotics do not treat viral infections. The role of Azithromycin in the treatment of COVID-19 is to prevent secondary complications by bacteria. Azithromycin belongs to the macrolide group of antibiotics and it is given once a day. There are other macrolide antibiotics as well, including the older Erythromycin and Clarithromycin. The advantage of Azithromycin is that it needs to be taken once a day.

Every time you take an antibiotic indiscriminately you increase the chances of bacterial resistance and then a similar antibiotic will not work in the body in the future. This antibiotic can cause complications, and the most common complication it causes is stomach upset, including GI or gastrointestinal disturbance. Azithromycin can cause acidity and heartburn and this is one of the most common side effects of the antibiotic.

You do not want to take Azithromycin on your own. Please take it only under medical supervision. Please use it only if there is a medical prescription.

Prozac - Fluoxetine
Prozac - Fluoxetine Side Effects 6 Views • 5 months ago

Prozac opened a new era in psychiatry practiced principally by general practitioners rather than mental health professionals. Some refer to this as cosmetic psychopharmacology. Currently the top 25 drugs prescribed in America include 3 antidepressants. Once heralded as a great advance, professionals are increasingly questioning whether doctors initiate therapy for inappropriate reasons.

Of even more concern, many continue therapy for lengthy intervals. Attempts to cease treatment often result in a condition known as the discontinuation syndrome. Its symptoms are routinely mistaken for recurrence of the original depression. Unfortunately the response generally involves even more therapy.

Studies routinely fail to demonstrate a significant difference from placebo in mild to moderate depression. Prozac clearly improves severe depression, however this may be most appropriately managed by psychiatrists rather than general practitioners and internists. The way medicine is currently practiced dictates the overwhelming majority of people suffering from depression will never meet with a psychiatrist.

Unfortunately the vast majority of prescriptions for Prozac originate in brief interactions with non-specialists less than adequately schooled in the nuances of depression. A cursory evaluation during a hurried visit followed by a prescription with multiple refills seems almost guaranteed to miss the essentials of depression.

Prozac became the first modern antidepressant and belongs to the family of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs. Other members of the class include Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, and Lexapro. None demonstrate significant superiority in treating depression and all share a common side effect profile. For reasons unique to an individual, some people prefer or respond more favorably to one pill rather than another.

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, tremors and excessive perspiration. Sexual dysfunction affects more men than women with erectile difficulties, loss of libido and lack of orgasm occurring in anywhere between 1-70%. Obviously the lower numbers arise from drug company funded studies.

Bleeding difficulties may occur especially in those receiving aspirin or anticoagulants. Monitoring for weight change, either gain or loss, low blood sugar and falling levels of blood sodium remain essential.

Combination with triptans for migraine, other antidepressants, St. John’s wort, lithium or fentanyl may lead to the serotonin syndrome. Manifestations include dizziness, sweating, elevated temperature, increased heart rate and blood pressure, tremor, agitation, hallucinations and delirium.

Complaints suggestive of the discontinuation syndrome include headache, irritability, dizziness, sleeplessness, fatigue, crying spells, shakiness and a form of mania.

Prozac is not appropriate for pregnant or breast feeding women.

Despite its suggested activity in boosting serotonin, the drug’s mechanism of action remains unsettled. Neither elevating nor lowering serotonin levels guarantees a change in mood. Emerging concepts clearly indicate abnormalities in many brain chemicals underlie depression. Serotonin’s role in the process is under review. The recently released Spravato – esketamine – treats depression by targeting a different area, the NMDA receptor.

Metformin Mechanism and Side Effects
Metformin Mechanism and Side Effects Side Effects 6 Views • 5 months ago

Metformin is a widely used oral medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as biguanides. It is primarily prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes, a chronic condition characterized by high blood sugar levels resulting from insulin resistance or inadequate insulin production by the pancreas. Metformin is not used to treat type 1 diabetes, where the body doesn't produce insulin at all.

Here are some key points about Metformin:

1. Mechanism of Action: Metformin works by decreasing the amount of glucose produced by the liver and increasing the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin. This helps the body use glucose more effectively, reducing the amount of glucose circulating in the bloodstream.

2. Insulin Sensitivity: One of the main benefits of Metformin is its ability to enhance insulin sensitivity. It helps cells take up glucose from the blood more efficiently, thereby improving the body's response to insulin.

3. Glucose Production: Metformin reduces the liver's production of glucose. In individuals with type 2 diabetes, the liver often produces too much glucose, contributing to high blood sugar levels.

4. Weight Neutrality: Unlike some other diabetes medications that can lead to weight gain, Metformin is generally considered weight-neutral or even associated with slight weight loss. This is beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes who may already struggle with weight management.

5. Side Effects: Common side effects of Metformin can include gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort. These side effects can be dose-related and may improve over time. Serious side effects are rare, but it's important to consult a healthcare professional if you experience any unusual symptoms.

6. Lactic Acidosis: While rare, Metformin can potentially lead to a serious condition called lactic acidosis. This occurs when there's a buildup of lactic acid in the bloodstream. It's more likely to occur in individuals with kidney or liver problems. As a result, Metformin is generally not prescribed to people with severe kidney impairment.

7. Combination Therapy: Metformin is often prescribed as a first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other oral medications or insulin to help manage blood sugar levels effectively.

8. Other Uses: Metformin has been investigated for its potential benefits beyond diabetes management. Some studies suggest that it might have a role in treating conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and even certain types of cancer. However, these uses are still being studied and are not yet established.

9. Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Metformin varies depending on the individual's needs, medical history, and response to the medication. It is usually taken with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.

As with any medication, it's important to consult a healthcare professional before starting or making any changes to your treatment plan involving Metformin. They can provide personalized guidance based on your specific medical history and needs.

Clinicians have been using Wellbutrin to treat ADHD for at least three decades. Although the details still remain murky, Wellbutrin acts primarily as a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. In humans, the norepinephrine effect appears to be more potent than the dopamine effect.

Several studies, albeit with small numbers of patients, have shown Wellbutrin to be effective in reducing ADHD symptoms in children, adolescents, and adults. Wellbutrin helps at least as much as does Strattera (atomoxetine) and in several studies appears to be as effective as Ritalin (methylphenidate). Wellbutrin may be particularly attractive for those who want to avoid stimulant medications, and the potential for addiction.

Confusion exists among most doctors, pharmacists and patients about the differences between the three formulations of bupropion (immediate release IR, sustained release SR, and extended release ER or XL). Although the XL form was approved for once a day dosing, this does NOT mean that medication is released steadily throughout a 24 hour period.

Doctor ER Jordan Wagner is back to explain melatonin side effects, melatonin dosage, melatonin benefits, melatonin overdose, how to take melatonin, and more. What does melatonin do? What is melatonin used for? How does melatonin work? In this video, Doctor Wagner, a real life emergency physician discusses the facts about melatonin gummies and melatonin tablets and the truth behind melatonin release when you can't sleep. If you suffer from insomnia and can't fall asleep fast you might have tried various over-the-counter natural sleep aids and remedies such as melatonin sleep support supplements or asmr. However, is melatonin a good sleep aid? Is it OK to take melatonin every night? Melatonin is most commonly used for insomnia and improving sleep in different conditions. It helps your body know when it's time to sleep and wake up. Melatonin is a derivative of serotonin best known for its role as a hormone. Doctors are also studying to see if melatonin can help with Alzheimer's disease, cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), high nighttime blood pressure, sleep problems in children with autism spectrum disorders, and more science behind it. Do you use any natural sleep aids or remedies to help you fall asleep? Let Doctor Wagner know in the comments if you've used any melatonin supplements in the past. What was your experience like? Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), is a medication used to reduce pain, fever, and/or inflammation. Aspirin is also used long-term to help prevent further heart attacks, ischemic strokes, and blood clots in people at high risk. Specific inflammatory conditions which aspirin is used to treat include Kawasaki disease, pericarditis, and rheumatic fever.

For pain or fever, effects typically begin within 30 minutes. Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and works similarly to other NSAIDs but also suppresses the normal functioning of platelets.

The informative video is available in multiple languages including English and Marathi on Healthy Wrinkles (www.healthywrinkles.com).

Dulaglutide: The Game-Changing Diabetes Treatment - How it Works, Uses, and Side Effects Explained
Dulaglutide: The Game-Changing Diabetes Treatment - How it Works, Uses, and Side Effects Explained Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

What is Dulaglutide and how does it work?.
Dulaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. It mimics the action of a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in the body. GLP-1 is produced naturally in the intestines and plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels.
When you inject dulaglutide, it activates GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas, leading to increased insulin release. Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels by allowing glucose to enter cells and be used as energy. By stimulating the release of insulin, dulaglutide helps lower blood sugar levels.
In addition to its effects on insulin release, dulaglutide also reduces the production of glucose in the liver. This helps prevent excessive glucose buildup in the bloodstream and further contributes to improved glycemic control.
Furthermore, dulaglutide slows down the emptying of the stomach and reduces the absorption of sugar from the gut. By doing so, it helps prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels after meals, promoting more stable glucose control throughout the day.
Uses of Dulaglutide in diabetes management.
Dulaglutide is primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes. It can be prescribed as a monotherapy, meaning it is used alone, or in combination with other diabetes medications such as metformin or insulin.
The goal of using dulaglutide is to achieve and maintain optimal blood sugar control. By keeping blood sugar levels within a target range, individuals with diabetes can reduce the risk of long-term complications such as heart disease, kidney damage, and nerve damage.
In addition to its blood sugar-lowering effects, dulaglutide has also been shown to promote weight loss in some individuals. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with type 2 diabetes who are overweight or obese, as weight loss can further improve glycemic control and reduce the risk of complications.
It's important to note that dulaglutide is not recommended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is specifically designed for individuals with type 2 diabetes who have not achieved adequate blood sugar control with diet and exercise alone.
Effectiveness of Dulaglutide in controlling blood sugar levels.
Numerous clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of dulaglutide in controlling blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers compared the effects of dulaglutide to placebo in over 9,000 patients with type 2 diabetes. The study found that dulaglutide significantly reduced hemoglobin A1c levels, a measure of average blood sugar control over a period of time, compared to placebo. Additionally, more patients in the dulaglutide group achieved the recommended target A1c levels compared to the placebo group.
Another study published in Diabetes Care compared dulaglutide to exenatide, another GLP-1 receptor agonist, in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The study found that dulaglutide was more effective at reducing A1c levels and promoting weight loss compared to exenatide.
Overall, these studies and others have consistently shown that dulaglutide is an effective treatment option for individuals with type 2 diabetes, providing significant improvements in blood sugar control and weight management.
Potential side effects of Dulaglutide.
Like any medication, dulaglutide can cause side effects in some individuals. It's important to be aware of these potential side effects and discuss them with your healthcare provider before starting treatment.
Common side effects of dulaglutide may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. These side effects are usually mild and tend to improve over time as your body adjusts to the medication. If these side effects persist or worsen, it's important to contact your healthcare provider for further guidance.
In rare cases, dulaglutide can cause more serious side effects such as pancreatitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas. Symptoms of pancreatitis may include severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. If you experience these symptoms while taking dulaglutide, it's important to seek immediate medical attention.
