Darzalex (Daratumumab) a Promising New Immunotherapy for Multiple Myeloma Cancer Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

Darzalex (Daratumumab) is a promising new FDA approved immunotherapy for treating multiple myeloma cancer, which is currently the 3rd most commonly diagnosed blood cancer in the United States. In this video, oncologist Dr. Stephen Lemon talks about how #Darzalex is used to treat multiple myeloma, including what types of side effects it may cause. Visit http://www.oacancer.com/darzal....ex-daratumumab-treat to learn more on this drug.

Darzalex is approved for the treatment of patients with #multiplemyeloma who have received at least 3 or more prior types of myeloma treatments.

Multiple #myeloma occurs when malignant plasma cells uncontrollably grow in the bone marrow, producing too much of a protein called CD38 which can result in cancerous tumor growth. Used as a targeted therapy, Darzalex searches for these malignant cells to destroy them.

Darzalex is developed by Janssen Biotech. Dr. Stephen Lemon is a medical oncologist and is not affiliated with Janssen Biotech. These medical videos are produced to help give patients and their families a better understanding of newly approved cancer treatments.

Cabometyx: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding and Managing Potential Side Effects.
Cabometyx: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding and Managing Potential Side Effects. Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

Cabometyx is a targeted therapy that works by inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer cells. While it can be a life-saving treatment option, it is important to be aware of the potential side effects that may arise.
One of the most common side effects of Cabometyx is fatigue. Many patients experience a sense of tiredness and lack of energy, which can impact daily activities and overall quality of life. It is essential to communicate any fatigue to your healthcare team so that they can provide appropriate support and guidance.
Diarrhea is another common side effect of Cabometyx. The medication can disrupt the normal functioning of the digestive system, leading to loose or watery stools. It is important to stay hydrated and follow any dietary recommendations provided by your healthcare team to minimize the impact of diarrhea.
High blood pressure is a potential side effect that requires careful monitoring. Cabometyx can increase blood pressure levels, which can be especially problematic for individuals with pre-existing hypertension. Regular blood pressure checks and medication adjustments may be necessary to manage this side effect effectively.
Managing gastrointestinal side effects.
Coping with gastrointestinal side effects, such as diarrhea and nausea, can be challenging. However, there are strategies that can help minimize discomfort and improve overall well-being.
When it comes to diarrhea, maintaining good hydration is crucial. Drinking plenty of fluids, such as water and clear broths, can help replace lost fluids and electrolytes. Avoiding spicy and greasy foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol, can also be beneficial in reducing diarrhea episodes.
Nausea can be managed by eating small, frequent meals throughout the day rather than large meals. Avoiding strong smells and eating bland, easily digestible foods can also help alleviate symptoms. If nausea persists, anti-nausea medications prescribed by your healthcare team may be necessary.
Coping with fatigue and weakness.
Fatigue and weakness are common side effects of Cabometyx that can significantly impact daily functioning. However, there are strategies that can help manage these symptoms and improve overall energy levels.
Prioritizing rest and getting enough sleep is essential for combating fatigue. Listen to your body and allow yourself to rest when needed. Engaging in gentle exercises, such as walking or yoga, can also help boost energy levels and reduce fatigue.
Maintaining a well-balanced diet rich in nutrients is crucial for managing weakness. Incorporating lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals can provide the necessary energy to combat weakness. Additionally, avoiding excessive caffeine and sugar consumption can prevent energy crashes.
Addressing hand-foot síndrome.
Hand-foot syndrome, also known as palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia, is a potential side effect of Cabometyx that affects the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. It can cause redness, swelling, and pain, making it difficult to perform daily activities.

Dealing with hypertension and cardiovascular side effects.
High blood pressure is a potential side effect of Cabometyx that requires careful management. Regular blood pressure monitoring and medication adjustments may be necessary to keep blood pressure levels in check.
In addition to medication, lifestyle modifications can also play a crucial role in managing hypertension. Maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical activity, following a low-sodium diet, and reducing stress levels can all contribute to better blood pressure control.
It is important to communicate any symptoms or concerns related to cardiovascular side effects to your healthcare team promptly. They can provide guidance and make necessary adjustments to ensure your safety and well-being.
Managing dermatologic side effects.
Dermatologic side effects, such as skin rash and dryness, can occur with Cabometyx treatment. These side effects can be uncomfortable and impact self-esteem. However, there are strategies to help manage them effectively.

✅ Breztri Aerosphere ✅ Produced By Dr Khalid Warraich ✅
✅ Breztri Aerosphere ✅ Produced By Dr Khalid Warraich ✅ Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

Breztri Aerosphere is a prescription inhaler used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) , a chronic lung disease that includes chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or both. It contains three active ingredients:
Budesonide – A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the lungs.
Glycopyrrolate – A long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) that helps relax airway muscles.
Formoterol fumarate – A long-acting beta agonist (LABA) that helps open the airways.
Breztri is used for the long-term maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including:
Chronic bronchitis – Persistent inflammation of the airways.
Emphysema – Damage to the air sacs in the lungs.
It reduces inflammation in the airways (Budesonide).
Relaxes airway muscles to improve airflow (Glycopyrrolate).
Opens airways for easier breathing (Formoterol).
Mechanism of action
Each of the 3 ingredients in Breztri has a different mechanism of action. Budesonide helps to decrease inflammation in the lungs which can lead to breathing problems. Glycopyrrolate blocks the effects of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) in the lungs, which allows the airways to relax and widen, making breathing easier. Formoterol binds to and activates beta2-adrenergic receptors on the smooth muscle cells in the airways. This activation also allows the airways to relax and widen, making breathing easier. Formoterol has a long-lasting effect, typically lasting 12 hours or more, which provides sustained symptom relief throughout the day for COPD patients.

Breztri Aerosphere Dosage

Standard Dosage for COPD

Recommended dose: Two inhalations (puffs) twice daily

Time of use: Morning and evening (approximately 12 hours apart)

Inhaler strength: Each puff contains:

Budesonide 160 mcg.

Glycopyrrolate 9 mcg.

Formoterol fumarate 4.8 mcg.

Side Effects of Breztri Aerosphere

Like all medications, Breztri Aerosphere can cause side effects. These can be classified as common, serious, and rare.

Exploring the Benefits and Potential Side Effects of Synagis
Exploring the Benefits and Potential Side Effects of Synagis Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

Synagis, also known as Palivizumab, is a monoclonal antibody medication that is used to prevent severe RSV infections in infants and young children. RSV is a common respiratory virus that can cause mild cold-like symptoms in most people. However, in premature infants and children with certain medical conditions, RSV infections can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis.

Synagis works by targeting the RSV virus and preventing it from replicating in the body. It is administered as a monthly injection during the RSV season, which typically begins in the fall and lasts through the spring. The medication provides temporary protection against RSV, reducing the risk of severe illness and hospitalization.

It is important to note that Synagis is not a vaccine and does not provide long-term immunity against RSV. Each dose of Synagis offers protection for about a month, so it is necessary to receive monthly injections throughout the RSV season to maintain its effectiveness.
Who needs Synagis?.
Synagis is typically prescribed for infants and young children who are considered at high risk of severe RSV infections. This includes premature infants born before 29 weeks of gestation, infants with chronic lung disease or certain heart conditions, and children with certain genetic or immunodeficiency disorders.

The decision to prescribe Synagis is usually made by the child's healthcare provider based on various factors, including the child's gestational age, overall health, and the prevalence of RSV in the local community. It is essential to discuss your child's individual risk factors with your healthcare provider to determine if Synagis is appropriate for them.
Benefits of Synagis.
The primary benefit of Synagis is its ability to reduce the risk of severe RSV infections in vulnerable infants and young children. RSV can be particularly dangerous for premature babies and those with underlying health conditions, as their immune systems are not fully developed or may be compromised. By receiving Synagis, these high-risk individuals have a better chance of avoiding hospitalization and serious complications associated with RSV infections.

Studies have shown that Synagis can significantly decrease the rate of hospitalization due to RSV infections in eligible infants. It is estimated that the medication can reduce the risk of hospitalization by up to 55% in premature infants and up to 45% in children with chronic lung disease. This reduction in hospitalizations not only protects the child from potential harm but also alleviates the burden on healthcare resources.
However, it is important to remember that Synagis is not a guarantee against RSV infections. While it significantly reduces the risk, there is still a possibility for breakthrough RSV infections. Therefore, it is crucial to take additional preventive measures, such as practicing good hand hygiene and avoiding close contact with individuals who are sick, to further protect your child.
Potential side effects of Synagis.
Like any medication, Synagis may come with potential side effects. While these side effects are generally rare, it is important to be aware of them and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider. The most common side effects reported with Synagis include redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site, as well as a mild fever or irritability.

In rare cases, more severe side effects may occur. These can include allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, rash, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. If your child experiences any unusual symptoms after receiving Synagis, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

It is worth noting that the benefits of Synagis in preventing severe RSV infections generally outweigh the potential risks of side effects. Your healthcare provider will carefully consider your child's individual situation and weigh the benefits and risks before recommending Synagis.

Side Effects of Bevacizumab (Avastin)
Side Effects of Bevacizumab (Avastin) Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

https://ruesch.georgetown.edu/rueschreels
Avastin® (Bevacizumab) is a biolgic cancer drug that binds two growth factors in your body to prevent new blood vessels from forming. Some of the major side effects are vascular, including high blood pressure, nose bleeds, and rarely stroke and heart attack. Bowel perforation is also a possible serious side effect.

Transcript:
Very commonly administered drug, Avastin. Bevacizumab, been around about 15 years now. A biologic. The way it works is it binds to growth factors in your body that prevent new blood vessels from forming. So the idea here is that cancers can't grow, they can't metastasize if they can't get access to the blood vessels. And it does do that, but it has side effects and some of the major side effects are vascular side effects, right?

So high blood pressure, nose bleed, rarely stroke, heart attack can be seen. The one we worry about the most around here is bowel perforation or fistulas. So if there's a lot of cancer in your abdominal cavity and the cancer responds, it might leave a hole so the bowel no longer is in tact and it can sow stool contents out into your abdominal cavity. So none of us likes that. Fortunately, all those scary side effects of stroke, heart attack, and fistula bowel perforation are quite rare, so do watch out for them and talk with your doc about them.

So generally speaking, pretty safe drug to add to the other chemotherapy drugs. Doesn't really work by itself, needs to be part of the recipe for the treatment of your cancer.

A new treatment for severe hypoglycemia in diabetic patients - Xeris pharma’s Gvoke (glucagon pen)
A new treatment for severe hypoglycemia in diabetic patients - Xeris pharma’s Gvoke (glucagon pen) Side Effects 5 Views • 5 months ago

Hypoglycemia is most common among people who take insulin, but it can also occur if you're taking certain oral diabetes medications.

Signs of severe hypoglycemia ranges from Confusion and disorientation, to Convulsions / fitting / seizures, Intense nightmares whilst asleep, Loss of consciousness and Coma.
Glucagon is a peptide hormone, produced by alpha cells of the pancreas. Glucagon increases blood sugar levels in the body by stimulating the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream.

It has the opposite effect of insulin, which lowers blood sugar levels.

Until now, people suffering from a severe hypoglycemic episode had to be treated with a glucagon injection that first had to be mixed in a several-step process.

Injectable glucagon has been approved for use in the U.S. for several decades and is commonly used by health care professionals for treating severe hypoglycemia.

On 10 Sep 2019, FDA approves Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc’s Gvoke to treat severely low sugar levels in diabetes patients.

Gvoke, Xeris’ glucagon pen is an pre-filled device with liquid stable form of glucagon. It won approval for use in diabetes patients, aged 2 years and above.

This new way to administer glucagon may simplify the process, which can be critical during an episode and simplify the treatment.
