Darzalex (Daratumumab) is a promising new FDA approved immunotherapy for treating multiple myeloma cancer, which is currently the 3rd most commonly diagnosed blood cancer in the United States. In this video, oncologist Dr. Stephen Lemon talks about how #Darzalex is used to treat multiple myeloma, including what types of side effects it may cause. Visit http://www.oacancer.com/darzal....ex-daratumumab-treat to learn more on this drug.
Darzalex is approved for the treatment of patients with #multiplemyeloma who have received at least 3 or more prior types of myeloma treatments.
Multiple #myeloma occurs when malignant plasma cells uncontrollably grow in the bone marrow, producing too much of a protein called CD38 which can result in cancerous tumor growth. Used as a targeted therapy, Darzalex searches for these malignant cells to destroy them.
Darzalex is developed by Janssen Biotech. Dr. Stephen Lemon is a medical oncologist and is not affiliated with Janssen Biotech. These medical videos are produced to help give patients and their families a better understanding of newly approved cancer treatments.

The landscape for treatment options in metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer has changed dramatically since 2010. There have been more therapies approved since 2010 than in the prior 3 decades. The purpose of this program is to outline the therapies that have been approved since 2010 and focus on the oral therapies, in particular Abiraterone and Enzalutamide. A practical discussion will include the mechanisms of action, the clinical trials resulting in approval by the FDA, the indications for their use and potential side effects. I will briefly discuss resistance mechanisms including ARV 7 splice variant and will discuss combination therapies in development. I will conclude the program with strategies for sequencing the new landscape of therapeutic options. The program will include audience questions and answers.

CAMZYOS® (mavacamten) is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). CAMZYOS may improve your symptoms and your ability to be active. It is not known if CAMZYOS is safe and effective in children.
WARNING: RISK OF HEART FAILURE
CAMZYOS may cause serious side effects, including:
Heart failure, a condition where the heart cannot pump with enough force, is a serious condition that can lead to death. You must have echocardiograms before you take your first dose and during your treatment with CAMZYOS to help your healthcare provider understand how your heart is responding to CAMZYOS. People who develop a serious infection or irregular heartbeat have a greater risk of heart failure during treatment with CAMZYOS. Tell your healthcare provider or get medical help right away if you develop new or worsening shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, swelling in your legs, a racing sensation in your heart (palpitations), or rapid weight gain.
The risk of heart failure is also increased when CAMZYOS is taken with certain other medicines. Tell your healthcare provider about the medicines you take, both prescribed and obtained over-the-counter, before and during treatment with CAMZYOS.
Because of the serious risk of heart failure, CAMZYOS is only available through a restricted program called the CAMZYOS Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program. Before you take CAMZYOS, you must enroll in the CAMZYOS REMS Program.

Dr Nguyen, a community-based medical oncologist, discusses the benefits of BRUKINSA for his patients with B-cell malignancies, including those with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM).
BRUKINSA is a kinase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of adult patients with:
• Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL)
• Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM)
• Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) who have received at least one prior therapy
• Relapsed or refractory marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) who have received at least one anti-CD20-based regimen
• Relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma (FL), in combination with obinutuzumab, after two or more lines of systemic therapy
The MCL, MZL and FL indications are approved under accelerated approval based on overall response rate and durability of response. Continued approval for these indications may be contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in confirmatory trials.
Serious adverse reactions, including fatal events, have occurred with BRUKINSA, including hemorrhage, infections, cytopenias, second primary malignancies, cardiac arrhythmias, and embryo-fetal toxicity. In the pooled safety population (N=1729), the most common adverse reactions (≥30%), including laboratory abnormalities, in patients who received BRUKINSA were neutrophil count decreased (51%), platelet count decreased (41%), upper respiratory tract infection (38%), hemorrhage (32%), and musculoskeletal pain (31%).

Many thousands of men around the world are missing out on a life-extending prostate cancer drug that's available free in some countries.
Although not a cure, Abiraterone can help stop prostate cancer spreading to other parts of the body.
Recently one drug trial showed that Abiraterone could benefit a larger group of men with earlier stage tumours that hadn't yet started to spread.
The medicine works by lowering testosterone production in the body which can fuel some cancer cell growth. The study showed it could halve the risk of the cancer spreading and significantly reduce the chance of death six years on from diagnosis in that group.
However differences in national health care systems mean that while in some countries men are being given the treatment, many others are missing out.
The UK illustrates this health inequality. In England and Northern Ireland, the state national health service will only provide it for men with very advanced disease, when other treatments have failed. However in the neighbouring UK nations of Scotland and Wales the drug is more widely available.

Avastin® (Bevacizumab) is a biolgic cancer drug that binds two growth factors in your body to prevent new blood vessels from forming. Some of the major side effects are vascular, including high blood pressure, nose bleeds, and rarely stroke and heart attack. Bowel perforation is also a possible serious side effect.
Transcript:
Very commonly administered drug, Avastin. Bevacizumab, been around about 15 years now. A biologic. The way it works is it binds to growth factors in your body that prevent new blood vessels from forming. So the idea here is that cancers can't grow, they can't metastasize if they can't get access to the blood vessels. And it does do that, but it has side effects and some of the major side effects are vascular side effects, right?
So high blood pressure, nose bleed, rarely stroke, heart attack can be seen. The one we worry about the most around here is bowel perforation or fistulas. So if there's a lot of cancer in your abdominal cavity and the cancer responds, it might leave a hole so the bowel no longer is in tact and it can sow stool contents out into your abdominal cavity. So none of us likes that. Fortunately, all those scary side effects of stroke, heart attack, and fistula bowel perforation are quite rare, so do watch out for them and talk with your doc about them.
So generally speaking, pretty safe drug to add to the other chemotherapy drugs. Doesn't really work by itself, needs to be part of the recipe for the treatment of your cancer.

Hypoglycemia is most common among people who take insulin, but it can also occur if you're taking certain oral diabetes medications.
Signs of severe hypoglycemia ranges from Confusion and disorientation, to Convulsions / fitting / seizures, Intense nightmares whilst asleep, Loss of consciousness and Coma.
Glucagon is a peptide hormone, produced by alpha cells of the pancreas. Glucagon increases blood sugar levels in the body by stimulating the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream.
It has the opposite effect of insulin, which lowers blood sugar levels.
Until now, people suffering from a severe hypoglycemic episode had to be treated with a glucagon injection that first had to be mixed in a several-step process.
Injectable glucagon has been approved for use in the U.S. for several decades and is commonly used by health care professionals for treating severe hypoglycemia.
On 10 Sep 2019, FDA approves Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc’s Gvoke to treat severely low sugar levels in diabetes patients.
Gvoke, Xeris’ glucagon pen is an pre-filled device with liquid stable form of glucagon. It won approval for use in diabetes patients, aged 2 years and above.
This new way to administer glucagon may simplify the process, which can be critical during an episode and simplify the treatment.
