In this video we review potassium chloride and we list the benefits, side effects and the recommended dosage of potassium chloride.
What Is a Potassium Chloride Powder Supplement?
A potassium chloride powder supplement contains a potassium salt powder that acts as a source of potassium. Potassium chloride is often mixed with table salt to form a low-sodium salt alternative. Potassium is an essential nutrient that is important in maintaining hydration in the body. Potassium is found in many fruits and vegetables — most famously bananas.
This potassium chloride powder supplement is a crystallized powder.

0:14 When to limit potassium consumption
1:13 The toxic effects of high potassium
2:05 A couple more things you should know about potassium
3:07 The right sodium and potassium ratio
4:14 Summary
The first thing you should know is that you will rarely if ever, have a problem with potassium if you get it from fresh food—even at 10 cups of vegetables per day. However, there are a few exceptions, including if you:
• Have stage 5 kidney disease
• Take an ace inhibitor
• Take a beta-blocker
• Use potassium-sparing diabetics
• Have Addison's disease
• Have hyperkalemia
Now let's talk about extreme doses of potassium. When you have between 8,000 and 10,000 mg of potassium, you may begin to feel nauseous. If you are already low on potassium and you take something like 14,000 mg of potassium, this could be very dangerous. Keep in mind that potassium doesn't store in the body. If you do prolonged fasting, you can deplete your potassium quickly. To prevent this, I recommend electrolyte fasting, which is including electrolytes in your fast.
If you already are deficient in potassium, vitamin B1 can exaggerate the symptoms. I also recommend that you keep your sodium and potassium levels balanced. If you consume a lot of potassium without any sodium, that's going to be a problem. The same problem happens if you have a lot of sodium and no potassium. You need four times as much potassium as sodium, so make your you have sodium and potassium in a 1 to 4 ratio.
In summary, the average healthy person would have to take a tremendous amount of potassium to develop a problem of high potassium levels in the blood. If you have 1,000-4,000 mg of potassium a day, you're not going to have a problem.

You may have heard that potassium is bad for your health, and can cause heart attacks, abnormal heart rhythms or worse. In fact, this is complete misinformation and learning the truth about potassium’s role in human health can change your life for the better. In this video I explain what the research tells us about how much potassium your body needs and how much it can handle. I then put the research to the test and head to the lab to see what happens to my own blood levels of potassium when I take doses even higher than what experts recommend.

Chapters:
00:00 Introduction – After hearing so many people tell me how dangerous it is to take potassium, I decided to put my own body at risk and see what happens when I take up to 4,000 mg of potassium supplement in just one day.
02:13 Research shows that oral potassium supplementation is safe and well tolerated when used for treatment of hypertension. In one study, the side effects for potassium was 11% compared to 8% for placebo, meaning that only an extra 3% of people had side effects.
03:10 In a study of 18 healthy patients, a single dose of 1,600 mg of potassium did not increase blood levels beyond the normal range. Blood levels increased only a fraction of a point and returned to baseline in just a few hours.
03:58 Taking escalating doses of potassium did not increase my blood levels at all as I went from baseline to 2,000 mg, 3,000 mg, and 4,000 mg daily.
07:30 The reason your blood levels don’t rise is that potassium is rapidly absorbed into the cells of your organs, muscles and bones before getting filtered out of the body through the kidneys, where potassium acts to reduce blood pressure by decreasing renin levels and turning off the sodium-chloride cotransporter.
09:20 This information applies to people with healthy kidneys and who are not taking medications that interfere with potassium metabolism. I will cover these special cases in future videos.
10:45 The side effects of potassium supplementation tend to be stomach-related, and occur slightly more frequently than compared to placebo. You can minimize these effects by splitting your dose up or having it with food.

A discussion of the controversies surrounding the RE-LY and ROCKET-AF trials, which led to the initial FDA approvals of dabigatran (Pradaxa) and rivaroxaban (Xarelto) respectively.
Please note that in the years since this video was posted, additional studies have been published which support the use of these drugs. I leave the video up because the issues discussed are still relevant. However, if you are a layperson, please do NOT stop taking your Xarelto or Pradaxa just because you watched this video. Instead, discuss your concerns with your physician. There are more than one alternative anticoagulant out there.

This illustrative video provides important information concerning the Pradaxa lawsuit. Sold as an alternative to Coumadin, Pradaxa, also known as Dabigatran, is a blood thinning mediation, commonly used in heart patients with atrial fibrillation. However, the FDA issued a safety communication warning of serious bleeding events and deaths in patients taking Pradaxa through its adverse events reporting system. Unlike Coumadin, also known as Warfarin, there is no known antidote or treatment for the overdosage of Pradaxa, causing a greater risk for adverse health events, including heart attacks and internal bleeding, leading even to death. The Nations Law Firm is a national pharmaceutical litigation firm which is representing clients across the country who are pursuing a legal claim against the Pradaxa manufacturer manufacturer.

In this video we will cover everything you need to know about Pravastatin, also known as Pravachol. We will discuss how and when to use it, we will cover its side effects, dosage and much, much more.
You can find more useful videos on cardiovascular diseases and their treatments here:
https://www.youtube.com/playli....st?list=PLaG3Bo3L0gX
Generic name: Pravastatin.
Brand names: Pravachol.
Available as tablets.
How to use it?
- Tablet: just swallow it whole with half a glass of water.
In addition it is best to take this medicine in the evening after eating or before going to bed. At night, the production of cholesterol by the liver is highest. This way you will benefit the most from the effect of this drug.
When to use it?
Pravastatin is part of a group of drugs called Statins. They inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which normally plays an essential role in the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. This lowers the circulating LDL, the total cholesterol and increased HDL-cholesterol.
Therefore Atorvastatin can be used to treat a high cholesterol, familial hypercholesterolemia and it can be used to prevent cardiovascular disease.
What is the correct dosage?
The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you.
- However, when treating adults most doctors will start with an initial dose of 10–40 mg 1×/day, if necessary your doctor might increase your dose every 4 weeks up to a maximum dose of 40 mg 1x/day.
What are the side-effects?
- Uncommon: Fatigue, Hair disorder, Skin rash, Itching, Tendon rupture, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Diarrhoea, Nausea, Constipation, Difficulty urinating, Diplopia, Blurred vision, Sleep disorder, Sexual dysfunction, Dizziness and Headache.
- Rare: Photosensitivity.
- Very rare: Angioedema, Anaphylaxis, Hypersensitivity Reaction, Jaundice, Hepatitis and several other serious side effects.
Safety:
- The first days of using Pravastatin it can lead to dizziness. Please do not drive while experiencing this.
- Furthermore, it rarely can cause liver abnormalities which can be increased with consumption of too much alcohol. Therefore it is often advised to not drink or at most 1 glass a day while using pravastatin.
- In addition, pravastatin can have interactions with other drugs your are taking. Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
- Lastly, do not use pravastatin while pregnant or while breastfeeding, as it can be dangerous.

Are you taking Pravastatin (Pravachol®)?
Pravastatin is a prescription medicine used to lower bad cholesterol (also known as LDL–C). It belongs to a class of medications known as statins.
If you're diagnosed with high cholesterol, your healthcare provider will typically suggest changes to diet and exercise first.
Suppose diet and exercise don't result in any improvement in cholesterol levels. In that case, healthcare providers recommend statins as the first line of defense.
Monica, a pharmacist who works with Marley Drug, answers some of the most common questions about this medicine:
1. (0:00) What is Pravastatin and how does it work?
2. (1:19) Why is cholesterol control important?
3. (1:56) What’s the best time to take Pravastatin?
4. (2:31) What if you miss a dose of Pravastatin?
5. (2:46) What are some side effects of Pravastatin?
6. (3:20) Can Pravastatin interact with other medications?
7. (4:27) What should you avoid while taking Pravastatin?
If there’s anything else you’d like us to cover, or if you’ve any thoughts on our video or questions for Monica, please don’t hesitate to leave your comment below. We’ll get right back to you.

Ninja Nerds!
In this cardiovascular pharmacology lecture, Professor Zach Murphy presents a high-yield breakdown of Alpha Blockers, focusing on their mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, and side effect profiles in the treatment of cardiovascular and genitourinary conditions.
We begin by reviewing the role of alpha-adrenergic receptors (α₁ and α₂) in regulating vascular tone and sympathetic outflow. From there, we explore how alpha-1 antagonists—such as prazosin, doxazosin, and terazosin—induce vasodilation by blocking α₁ receptors on vascular smooth muscle, leading to a reduction in systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure.
The lecture also highlights the use of alpha-1 blockers in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing smooth muscle in the bladder neck and prostate to improve urinary flow. We discuss uroselective agents like tamsulosin, which minimize systemic vascular effects.
We briefly cover nonselective alpha blockers like phenoxybenzamine and phentolamine, commonly used in the management of pheochromocytoma and hypertensive emergencies involving catecholamine excess.

This content provides information about prednisone, a glucocorticoid that is often mistaken for an anabolic steroid used in bodybuilding. Find out the recommended and alternative drugs to prevent gout attacks
Key Takeaways:
1. Prednisone is a Catabolic Steroid: Unlike anabolic steroids used in bodybuilding, prednisone is a catabolic steroid that breaks down muscle and does not enhance bodybuilding or training abilities.
2. Alternative Medications for Gout: For treating gout, it is important to consider alternative medications such as colchicine, allopurinol, or febuxostat to prevent gout attacks.
3. Exercise Recommendations: While moderate exercise is generally safe during prednisone treatment, extreme activities should be avoided. It is advised to take it easy for three weeks post-treatment to allow the body to recover.
4. Pain Management Options: Exploring other pain management options and discussing alternatives with a healthcare provider is recommended to avoid the negative effects of prednisone on bodybuilding and training.
5. Expert Advice: Dr. Megan, a prednisone pharmacist, provides additional information on gout and prednisone in a dedicated video, offering further insights and guidance.
