The use of neomycin lowers the risk of infection following some intestinal procedures. The group of medications known as aminoglycoside antibiotics includes neomycin. It functions by preventing bacterial growth in the intestines. In addition, neomycin may be taken in conjunction with a particular diet to treat a specific severe brain condition known as hepatic encephalopathy. Ammonia, a particular natural chemical, in excess leads to this illness. Ammonia is normally eliminated by the liver, however liver illness can cause the body to accumulate too much ammonia. By eradicating specific intestinal bacteria that produce ammonia, this drug aids in the treatment of encephalopathy.Only bacterial illnesses are treated by this antibiotic. Viral illnesses (such as the common cold and the flu) will not be treated by it.

Neosporin Skin Ointment | Uses, Side Effects, Dosage, Review
Neosporin skin ointment is an antibiotic ointment that combines bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B to effectively treat various skin infections and wounds. This topical medication is commonly used for prophylaxis in graft donor sites, managing lacerations, accidental cuts, scratches, abrasions, and infected ulcers. It's also useful for treating minor burns, impetigo, and other bacterial infections, including those affecting the eye and its surrounding areas. While neosporin skin ointment is effective, it should be applied with caution. The most common side effects include skin redness and dryness at the application site. It is important to avoid using the ointment for more than seven days without medical advice, especially in individuals with a history of antibiotic allergies or those with kidney disease. Pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 2 years should avoid this medication. Proper application includes washing hands before and after use, and applying a thin layer to the affected area. Consultation with a healthcare provider is advised if any side effects persist or worsen.

ANTIBIOTIC RECIPE:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/3 cup dried lavender
1/3 cup dried calendula
1/3 dried rose buds
4 TB beeswax pellets
1 tbs raw shea butter
1 TB raw honey (optional)
10 drops tea tree essential oil
5 drops lavender essential oil
Directions:
(This recipe yields approximately 8 ounces)
1. Use a double boiler to combine the coconut and olive oil. Allow the coconut oil to melt over low heat. Once melted, add in the dried lavender, calendula and rose buds. Stir to combine and let the herbs infuse for 30 minutes on low heat.
2. After 30 minutes, prepare a small bowl with a coffee filter or cheesecloth. Pour the mixture through the filter, straining out the herbs, with the infused oil in a jar or bowl below.
3. Clean out any of the remaining dried herbs and return the infused oil to the double boiler. Using low heat, add the beeswax, then shea butter, stirring until melted. Add the honey (f using) stirring for about a minute. Turn off the heat and add the essential oils (tea tree and lavender).
4. Pour the mixture into one large jar or two small jars. The mixture will begin to solidify within 5 to 10 minutes and fully set after 15 minutes. If you're using honey, stir every minute or two. Once set, it's ready to use and will keep for 12 months at room temperature.

Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses Gabapentin (Neurontin) and its clinical utility for the off-label treatment of anxiety and insomnia. This medication has abuse potential (although, it is generally thought of as having less abuse potential than anxiolytics and sedatives like benzodiazepines (xanax, ativan, valium, klonopin) and other hypnotics (ambien & lunesta). Individuals should only take this medication under the direct supervision and direction of a medical professional.
Dr. Pagnani is the founder and medical director of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates, an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for the Department of Psychiatry, he supervises psychiatric residents at Jefferson Hospital, he serves on the Young Professional Board of Uplift, the Center for Grieving Children and he maintains a private practice of Psychiatry in Philadelphia where he sees patients for one-time psychiatric evaluations and second opinions. He is a licensed physician and surgeon in NJ, PA, NY, MD, DE, FL and CA and can provide consultations to individuals via HIPAA compliant Telehealth visits living in these locations.
Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a private practice of psychiatry consisting of about 25 psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychotherapists with physical locations in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and serving all of PA, NJ, NY and FL virtually via HIPAA compliant tele-psychiatry. Individuals seeking not only evaluations but long-term psychiatric care, can contact Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates directly.
These videos aim to increase awareness and discussion of mental health topics and to encourage struggling individuals to schedule an appointment directly with a mental health provider. Mental health needs to be normalized, and simply speaking about mental health topics openly, is an important first step.
Dr. Pagnani and Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates are NOT advocating for or against the use of any mentioned psychiatric medications for any specific individual. Additionally, any side effects mentioned are not a complete list of potential side effects or contraindications to taking any mentioned medications, and all risks and benefits of a medication should be discussed with an individual’s provider at an appointment, before starting, stopping or making changes to a medication regimen.

What is Gabapentin
Gabapentin is a epilepsy medication in the class of medicine known as anticonvulsants, but it is so much more than that. Its primarily used to treat partial seizures and neuropathic pain. It is a first-line medication for the treatment of neuropathic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy- nerve damage that can occur if you have diabetes, postherpetic neuralgia- when you get chronic pain after shingles, and central pain. You also see it used for many other uses as well such as restless leg syndrome, non neuropathic pain, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
Gabapentin mechanism of action. How does gabapentin work
Scientists aren't entirely sure how it works exactly but It appears to work by altering electrical activity in the brain, at a specific site (called the alpha2-delta site) located on voltage-gated calcium channels. Doing so, relieves nerve-pain and lowers the risk of seizures by influencing the activity of chemicals called neurotransmitters, which send messages between nerve cells in our brain. Once they start to slow down, this lowers the excitement our neurons face thereby controlling seizures as well as how we perceive pain.
How to take Gabapentin
Take gabapentin exactly as your doctor has told you to take it, and follow the directions on the bottle label and packaging. If you're not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Gabapentin side effects
Some common side effects of gabapentin that are usually mild and go away by themselves is: feeling sleepy, tired, or dizzy, nauseous, vomiting or diarrhea, mood changes are another common one, weight gain as gabapentin can make you feel more hungry, memory problems especially with short term memory, and dry mouth.

Patty McGoldrick: Neurontin is also known as gabapentin and it's another medication that can be used for control of seizures and epilepsy. It's well tolerated, it's used for generalized, impartial seizures. It's available both in pills that can be crushed or it's available in an oral formulation, so a liquid for small children.
Dr. Steve Wolf: The major side effects is sedation.
Patty: Right.
Dr. Wolf: Sleepiness. It can cause a little bit of an increased appetite and weight gain, so you need to monitor that very closely. Though it's also useful for patients who are having trouble sleeping at night. It already helps to sort of increase the sleep control.
Patty: And actually we use it a lot for people who are having difficulties sleeping. It's also used for pain, for neuropathic pain.
Dr. Wolf: So it's a good medication Another option in our armory of people with difficult to control seizures but not one of your first line kind of drugs.
Patty: So Neurontin or gabapentin, third or fourth line drug for control of generalized, impartial seizures. A big side effect is drowsiness. It's also used for pain and it's well tolerated for the most part.

Drug Cards Daily | Episode #38: esomeprazole (Nexium) | Get Stomach Acid and H. pylori Infection Under Control
Esomeprazole is available over the counter and by prescription. The commonly known brand name is Nexium. Esomeprazole is a substituted benzimidazole proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It comes in a delayed release capsule and as delayed release granule packets. When treating GERD and other hypersecretory conditions a typical dosing range is between 20-40 mg po qd-bid. Esomeprazole is also used as part of a multi-drug regimen for treating H. pylori infection. The mechanism of action behind esomeprazole is through the suppression of acid secretion by inhibiting hydrogen-potassium ATPase. Esomeprazole is the S-enantiomer of omeprazole (Prilosec). Since esomeprazole affects stomach acid it may alter how well other drugs work. For example, absorption of drugs may decrease which may lead to a decrease in efficacy of those drugs. Esomeprazole is best when taken 1 hour before a meal and best if taken before the first meal of the day. If needed, the capsule can be opened.
