Opioids are a mainstay of treatment for moderate to severe restless legs syndrome (RLS) and dopamine agonist augmentation when first-line treatments have not worked. Andy Berkowski, MD of ReLACS Health explains the benefits and side effects of methadone among opioid medications, one of the most used opioids for RLS for at least three decades now.
Regardless of the potential for powerful relief of RLS, methadone is a DEA schedule II controlled substance and, like most opioids, misuse and/or overdose can cause severe and potentially life-threatening effects not limited to severe impairment, shallow breathing, coma, and death. Methadone can also be used inappropriately for non-medical purposes, and there is risk for dependence and/or addiction, even with appropriate use. Opioids require strict supervision and management by a licensed medical doctor or advanced practitioner.

In this video, Dr Peter Coleman, who is Board-certified in Addiction Medicine and in long-term recovery himself, answers a viewer question about why methadone withdrawal is so difficult. Methadone is one of 3 proven forms of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Opioid Use Disorder. Suboxone (buprenorphine) and Naltrexone are the other 2 evidence-based forms of MAT.
-Safe, Comfortable Outpatient Detox
The Coleman Institute for Addiction Medicine has been a leading outpatient addiction treatment center since 1998. Our innovative withdrawal management programs, often referred to as The Coleman Method, have helped thousands of people free themselves from addiction to Alcohol, Opioids, and Benzodiazepines. Originally founded in Richmond, Virginia, our network has expanded to cover 10 cities across the US.
-3 - 8 Day Opioid Detoxification Process
For short-acting opiates like oxycodone, most patients complete their detox and begin Naltrexone therapy within 5 days. Longer-acting opiates like Suboxone and Methadone typically take 8 days. Our standard opioid treatment package in Richmond, VA includes the detox and 6 months of case management and Naltrexone therapy. As a non-addictive opioid blocker, Naltrexone dramatically reduces cravings so that patients can focus on their recovery. We have a 98% success rate for completing detoxification and starting Naltrexone therapy. During the detox, we work with patients and their families to develop an appropriate aftercare plan. We also offer a convenient, 3-day outpatient alcohol detox and a Benzodiazepine Detox.
-Caring, Empathetic Environment
Our founder, Dr. Peter Coleman, understands first-hand the challenges our patients are facing due to his own personal struggle with the disease of addiction. He has been in long term recovery since 1984. Dr. Coleman has dedicated his career to treating addiction patients and creating a team and an environment conducive to long term recovery for his patients.

In the US, the government is battling the opioid overdose epidemic.
About 115 people die every day due to this problem and those numbers continue to rise.
The misuse of opioids affects the public health and economic welfare of the country.
One of the opiates that people commonly misuse is methadone.
Methadone is used in the treatment of moderate to severe pain.
Doctors can also prescribe it to treat narcotic addiction.
Sadly, some patients misuse their methadone prescription for a variety of reasons.
This affects them and their health in different ways.
When taken as prescribed by your doctor, methadone medication is safe and effective.
For patients with addiction, it works effectively if used together with comprehensive medication-assisted treatment which includes social support and counseling.
Doctors say that methadone works a lot like morphine but it’s effect on the body are slower.
It works by changing how the brain and nervous system respond to pain.
This makes you feel relief.
Methadone blocks the euphoric effects of opiate drugs such as codeine or heroin.
It also lessens withdrawal symptoms of opiates.
The pain relief from this drug lasts for about eight to 12 hours.
Studies have shown that methadone is effective in higher doses, particularly for those patients with heroin addiction.
Methadone is an effective treatment for suppressing cravings and reducing pain.
It has a long-term treatment period, usually one year or more.
No matter how it is taken, the effects are wide and varied as they depend on the individual’s body.
Possible Methadone side effects are constipation, vomiting (especially in the beginning of treatment as the body adjusts to the medication), light headedness, irregular sweating, dry mouth, fatigue and more.
These side effects are more likely if the medication is not taken as prescribed or above the therapeutic dose.
You will work closely with your doctor to find a dose that works for you.
If you experience any of these side effects, it’s important to communicate them with your doctor so that your dosage can be adjusted.
Sometimes, these side-effects can occur in the beginning stages of treatment and later subside once you have had time to get used to your dosage.
Fortunately, when methadone program requirements are followed and medication is taken as prescribed, it can be a huge help in recovering your life after addiction.
If you are looking into a methadone treatment program for yourself or a loved one, check out our state-by-state directories for more information

Metamucil® is the only leading fiber supplement brand that contains 100% natural psyllium husk, a great source of both soluble and insoluble fiber. It’s the #1 doctor recommended fiber supplement brand available in many forms — powders, capsules, gummies, and fiber thins (cookies).
Metamucil is produced and packaged here in the U.S., and all Metamucil globally is produced in Phoenix, Arizona. They source their psyllium from India, which is the only place where psyllium is grown. Unlike clear-mixing fiber supplements, the psyllium in Metamucil forms a viscous gel, which helps the body maintain healthy blood sugar levels* and helps lower cholesterol levels to promote heart health†.

This video discusses the risks and lack of efficacy associated with using Medrol dose packs, which contain the corticosteroid methylprednisolone, for treating seasonal respiratory illnesses such as coughs, colds, flu, and COVID-19. It highlights the significant side effects and potential complications, including panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia, and increased risk of fractures and sepsis. This emphasizes that Medrol should only be used for chronic conditions like asthma and COPD, and not for acute respiratory infections, aligning with medical guidelines and expert consensus.
Key Takeaways:
1. Medrol's Ineffectiveness for Seasonal Illnesses: Medrol dose packs, containing the corticosteroid methylprednisolone, are not recommended for treating seasonal respiratory illnesses like coughs, colds, flu, or COVID-19 due to a lack of evidence supporting their efficacy.
2. Significant Risks and Side Effects: The use of Medrol is associated with severe side effects, including panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia, and intense food cravings, which can significantly disrupt daily life. There are at least 150 potential side effects within a 30-day treatment period.
3. Increased Risk of Serious Complications: Steroids like Medrol elevate the risk of serious complications, such as fractures and sepsis, a potentially fatal full-body infection. The use of glucocorticoids in patients with influenza is linked to an increased risk of mortality.
4. Appropriate Use in Chronic Conditions: Medrol may be beneficial for managing chronic conditions like asthma and COPD, particularly during acute exacerbations, but not for acute respiratory infections.
5. Importance of Informed Decision-Making: Patients are encouraged to discuss treatment options with healthcare providers and critically assess the necessity of prescribed medications, especially corticosteroids, for acute respiratory conditions.

Product Review: Boots Magnesium 💊 (It Sucks Really Bad 😩❌)
📲 Follow for honest health and fitness tips (and free recipes 3/week too 🥳)
Magnesium Oxide (& Boots) Suck:https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.go....v/32162607/https://p
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5818780/
Here’s why:
-It’s very poorly absorbed. Multiple studies show your body barely takes in the magnesium from oxide — so most of it just passes through your gut and out the other end.
-It’s basically useless for energy-related issues. It doesn’t improve fatigue, leg cramps, sleep, or anything that might make you feel more energised.
-Better forms exist. Citrate, malate, and glycinate are absorbed way better and have been linked (in small studies) to improvements in fatigue, sleep, and mood.
So, from a scientific and practical point of view:❌ Magnesium oxide is cheap, low-quality, and not the one you want if you want to reduce tiredness and fatigue.

Magnesium is one of the hottest supplements in the market today, but how do you know which form is right for you? Let's break down the different forms of magnesium and explain their differences:
First, we have magnesium citrate, which is the most common form of magnesium. Magnesium citrate can have laxative effects and be helpful for constipation. Next, we have magnesium bisglycinate, which is very calming for the nervous system and can help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, as well as stress relief.
We also have magnesium L-threonate, a great form of magnesium for the brain for depression, concussions, as well as memory loss. Additionally, we have magnesium malate, which is very helpful in increasing energy by supporting the mitochondria of the cells.
There's also magnesium oxide, which is poorly absorbed and not one I use often unless I want to force a bowel movement.
