Most doctors don't discuss these risks in detail, and patients are left unaware of the potential damage caused by these medications.

If you or a loved one is on antipsychotics, this information is essential to understand the potential long-term consequences.

PHARMACIST Fi shares the fascinating ways a medicine called colchicine works to reduce inflammation for people with gout. (Some colchicine brand names you might recognize include: Colcrys, Mitigare, or Gloperba in U.S.A.; Colgout, Lengout, or Colcine in Australia.)
Please also watch PHARMACIST Fi's 3 main videos on colchicine for gout:
'Part 1' (via the following link) looks at important things for you and your doctor to talk about before starting colchicine, or when already taking colchicine:

Educational Pearls:
1. Gout is an arthritis caused by the deposition of urate crystals into the joint space
2. Colchicine works by disrupting microtubules and prevents white blood cells from getting into the joint space which stops the inflammatory response
3. Colchicine has a high rate of adverse events, in particular explosive diarrhea
4. The drug also has a very narrow therapeutic index and overdose is nearly universally fatal, with no antidote or effective treatment option available
5. Alternative agents such as steroids, which reduce the inflammatory response to urate crystals, along with NSAIDs may be better options for treatment

In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key facts about a medication called ALLOPURINOL and how it is used to treat a condition called GOUT - where uric acid crystals build up in the joints.
Allopurinol is also know by its trade or brand names: Zyloric, Uricto or Zyloprim.
In the video we cover:
00:00 Introduction
00:43 What is allopurinol (Zyloprim)?
01:06 Who can and can't take allopurinol?
01:49 How to take allopurinol?
03:24 Side effects of allopurinol
05:43 - Advice if pregnant
06:13 - Taking allopurinol with other medications
Key facts from the NHS:
*Allopurinol reduces the amount of uric acid made by your body's cells. *This reduces symptoms such as swollen and painful joints (gout).
*It may take several months before you feel the full benefit of allopurinol.
*During the first few months of treatment, as allopurinol starts to work, you may get more gout attacks. However, your doctor will prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or colchicine to help with this.
*When allopurinol is taken regularly, it can lower the number of gout attacks and help prevent damage to the joints.
*Usually you will start allopurinol after an acute attack of gout has completely settled.

Harold Koplewicz: Your Brain on Ritalin

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Koplewicz debunks the myth that Ritalin and Adderall affect those without ADHD differently than those with it. The effect is the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HAROLD KOPLEWICZ:
Dr. Harold Koplewicz is one of the nation’s leading child and adolescent psychiatrists. He is widely recognized as an innovator in the field, a strong advocate for child mental health, and a master clinician. He has also been at the forefront of public education to dispel the myths and stigma surrounding children and adolescents living with psychiatric disorders. Koplewicz has been repeatedly recognized in America’s Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, and New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors in New York.” In 2006, he was appointed Director of the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI), making him the third person to hold that position since the institution’s founding in 1952. He is also the founding president of the Child Mind Institute.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRANSCRIPT:
Question: Do ADHD drugs affect a “normal” brain differently than a brain with ADHD?
Harold Koplewicz: Well I think that’s a myth. I think there’s a myth out there that if you are a hyper-active, or ADHD kid, Ritalin or Ritalin-like medications are going to work on you differently than they will on the normal population. And that’s what it is. It’s a myth; it’s inaccurate. So for all of us, whenever we would take on of these medicines, your dopamine and norepinephrine is going to be more readily available in your brain. You will be more focused. You will be more attentive, you will also, might be a little more uptight and a little more hyper-vigilant. And when you take any medicine, there’s a cost/benefit ratio. Any time you take a medicine, there’s a potential side effect. So if you don’t have ADHD and you’re going to take this medicine, any psychostimulant, any type of drug like this is going to increase your heart rate, it may elevate your blood pressure, it will decrease your appetite. Those things are side effects that are unnecessary if your dopamine and norepinephrine levels are normal. In the same way that if you take too many aspirin. It will thin your platelets, which might be good, but might be bad. And if you take too much aspirin you can actually get an ulcer.
So this is something that every time you get prescribed a medicine, a doctor is thinking about what the cost/benefit ratio is. A little quick soundbyte..
So, but the important part for us to remember is that when someone with ADHD gets these medicines, they get closer to what a normal, typical brain response is. So that they look less hyper-active, they look more attentive, therefore they’re less impulsive. They are able to do what they’re capable of doing. It doesn’t increase your IQ points, it doesn’t make you smarter, it lets you get to the IQ points that you do have. And therefore, while you’re never as attentive as a typical or normal individual, and you never stop moving around and stay as still as a typical normal, you are more in the normal range that permits you to be more contemplative, insightful, and therefore get in touch with and use your intelligence.
Question: Is there any danger of addiction or long-term chemical changes?
Harold Koplewicz: Well, I think there are other side effects. So, for instance, particularly if you take Dexedrine—which is a more potent version of Ritalin, slightly different chemical structure—there is no doubt that you will also get a slight rise in your mood and you will feel somewhat more euphoric and you will feel more expansive. And therefore, if you start taking that medicine on a regular basis, when you don’t have it you very possibly will feel a crash, or you will feel down. And therefore, that’s the potential side effect that could be quite serious, that you become used to it or become almost addicted to the sensation of feeling good when it’s not necessary to cause you to focus or you don’t need it for extended attention.

In this episode, I discuss a medication known as Ritalin (methylphenidate) and go over 3 things that you should know about it:
1. Some common side effects that you can watch out like like a decrease in appetite or weight loss. You could experience anxiety (8%) or depression (4%) as well.
2. I discuss a Black Box warning concerning dependence with methylphenidate.
3. I go over some situations in which you would not be able to use methylphenidate (contraindications). One example is marked anxiety or agitation as Ritalin my increase these symptoms.
My book is now available! It discusses my experience with Bipolar Disorder.

WELCOME to my youtube channel and during this video, I'm talkIng about concerta, this is 27 milligrams and it can do some miraculous things when it comes to helping you with your focus, concentration and mood. Let this video be your guide, we'll go over my concerta experience. I'll compare it to other alternatives, like: Concerta vs Adderall, concerta vs Vyvanse, Concerta vs Ritalin and I'll go over some of the most common concerns about it, such as Concerta side effects, the Concerta dosage, concerta for a weight loss.
I used concerta for about 3 years on and off and it was my experience was that it is absolutely fantastic, it absolutely works... but the comedowns and the crash were bad enough to make it be an overall negative experience... and for that reason, I'm not a user and I never plan to touch the stuff again. Initially I began taking it after I used Ritalin. Ritalin was used to help me with school. They suggested it because I was having trouble studying... I would read and regress to the beginning of the paragraph repetitively, and it was just damn hard to pay attention. So, I was on Ritalin at a very small dose, and Ritalin was great... it would help you to concentrate for a couple of hours. However, it only lasted 2-3 hours and for this reason, I made the switch to concerta. I started at 18 mg and then went up to 27 milligrams.

Update 2021: After a long search for a new combination of meds that worked for me, I started taking Tremfya in March of 2021. It started working by May and is still working great, it completely cleared my skin and has kept my joints feeling good! I still have some visible swelling of fingers and toes so they added Otezla to the mix a few weeks ago.
Update 2/7/19: The Cosentyx did not end up working for me. I am now on MTX and Xeljanz.
I have suffered from Psoriatic Arthritis and Psoriasis for almost 20 years. In fact, it was my desire to reduce the inflammation in my body which led me to the Keto lifestyle almost 2 years ago. 5 weeks ago I switched medications from Remicade to Cosentyx. I just finished my 5 weeks of loading doses, so here is my update!

In this video we will cover everything you need to know about Rosuvastatin, also known as Crestor. We will discuss how and when to use it, we will cover its side effects, dosage and much, much more.
You can find more useful videos on cardiovascular diseases and their treatments here:
https://www.youtube.com/playli....st?list=PLaG3Bo3L0gX
Generic name: Rosuvastatin.
Brand names: Crestor and Ezallor.
Available as tablets and chewable tablets.
How to use it?
- Tablet: just swallow it whole with half a glass of water.
- Chewable tablet: just take the tablets and chew on it until it dissolves. If you want to you can also swallow this tablet whole.
It is best to take this medicine at fixed times. This will make you less likely to forget a dose.
When to use it?
Rosuvastatin is part of a group of drugs called Statins. They inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which normally plays an essential role in the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. This lowers the circulating LDL, the total cholesterol and increased HDL-cholesterol.
Therefore Rosuvastatin can be used to treat a high cholesterol, familial hypercholesterolemia and it can be used to prevent cardiovascular disease.
What is the correct dosage?
The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you.
- However, when treating adults most doctors will start with an initial dose of 5–10 mg 1×/day, if necessary your doctor might double your dose every 4 weeks up to a maximum dose of 40 mg 1x/day.
What are the side-effects?
- Common: Abdominal pain, Nausea, Constipation, Muscle pain, Diabetes mellitus, Dizziness and Headache.
- Uncommon: Skin Rash, Itching and Urticaria.
- Rare: changes in your blood values, edema, hypersensitivity reaction, muscle tear and inflammation of the pancreas.
- Very rare: it can cause several severe side effects.
Safety:
- First of all it is safe to drive when using Rosuvastatin.
- However, it rarely can cause liver abnormalities which can be increased with consumption of too much alcohol. Therefore it is often advised to not drink or at most 1 glass a day while using Rosuvastatin.
- Furthermore, Rosuvastatin can have interactions with other drugs your are taking. Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
- Lastly, do not use Rosuvastatin while pregnant or while breastfeeding, as it can be dangerous.

#Rosuvastatin #Rosuvastatinsideefftects #Crestor #Crestorsideeffects #highcholesterol #cholesterol
Rosuvastatin belongs to a group of medicines called HMG-CoA
reductase inhibitors. It is most common known by its brand name
Crestor .
Cholesterol is taken into the body through food and also made by the liver. It is needed for our body to make hormones, bile and vitamin D. There are two major forms of cholesterol: LDL Low-density lipoprotein also known as
bad cholesterol, and HDL high-density lipoprotein also called
good cholesterol. Too much bad cholesterol can block your blood
vessels and lead to a heart attack or a stroke. On the other hand
the good cholesterol removes the bad cholesterol from the
blood vessels back to to the liver and remove it from the body.
Rosuvastatin works by reducing the amount of bad cholesterol
made by the liver and raises the good cholesterol to reduce the risk
of you getting a heart attack or a stroke.
Before you start Rosuvastatin, you need to tell your doctor
the following:
- if you are allergic to it, or to any ingredients listed on the
packaging.
- if you have any liver disease, kidney disease and breathing
problems.
- if you are pregnant, intend of likely to be pregnant as it may affect
the baby.
- if you are breast feeding or intend to breast feed, Rosuvastatin can
cross breast milk and affect the baby
- if you get muscle pain, tenderness or weakness from other medicines used to treat high cholesterol or triglycerides

Side Effects:

These are not the only side effects, more side effects, if you feel unwell, let your doctor or pharmacist know.
More information and side effetcs about Rosuvastatin can be found on
https://www.nps.org.au/assets/....medicines/cb99939e-2
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/....statins/side-effects
if you are prescribed rosuvastatin, it means the doctor deems that
the benefit of the medications to keep you alive preventing you
from getting a heart attack and stroke outweighs the rare
side effects that very likely might not happen. So, listen to your
doctor. If you experience any of the side effects that I mentioned,
you then inform the doctor immediately and take it from there.
Now last note, it is great that we live in a world where we have all
these life saving medications available for us, but it is not a good
thing for us to solely rely on these medication and not do any
lifestyle modification. These medication only controls the
condition but does not cure the condition. Things you need to do
besides following the doctor’s instruction carefully to take your
medication daily on time are to
Exercise
Control your diet, reduce fat and salt intake
Quit smoking
These are very important to keep
your body and mind healthy and strong. Work with your local
doctor and pharmacist to achieve these goals.
