Does Seroquel, the antipsychotic medication, cause loss of speech? Maybe. It should only be used if nothing else works. So my first question is, why is this person on Seroquel? Antipsychotics are for if someone is delusional or paranoid or aggressive or has these repetitive thoughts that are really scary like their husband is cheating on them, that their food is poisoned.
If you're miserable during the day, or you're really angry due to delusions and those sorts of things, then it can be helpful.
But the Seroquel, the Zyprexa or Olanzapine, the Risperdal, the Geodon, the Abilify all have a 2% increase in stroke risk and a 1% increase in sudden death risk.
They also make your heartbeat pattern longer, and so if used with some other medications that also do that it can be dangerous. So, if a loss of speech, that makes me worry that this person might have had a little stroke. And the thing is, a stroke could be someone all of a sudden just can't sign their name, or they all of a sudden don't remember who their caregiver of five years is, or that they can't speak or they can't swallow. So that's a small stroke.
And you do need to get a CAT scan. You do need to think about increasing the blood thinner, but you definitely want to get that checked into.

Singulair talblets contain the active ingredient montelukast sodium, which is a medicine used for asthma. Singulair tablets help to control asthma, including asthma mainly triggered by exercise. They also help to control hay fever symptoms in people with asthma.
Montelukast, the active ingredient in Singulair, works by blocking the action of chemicals called leukotrienes. Leukotrienes are chemicals that are released by the body as part of allergic and inflammatory reactions, including asthma attacks.
By blocking these chemicals, motelukast reduces mucus production, inflammation, and narrowing of the airways, helping to control asthma and prevent asthma attacks.

Dr. Ahmet Ergin almost never recommends diabetic medicines such as Glipizide, Glyburide, or Glimepiride (sulfonylureas) to type 2 diabetic patients unless there are no alternatives. Glipizide, Glyburide, or Glimepiride will cause weight gain, low blood sugar(hypoglycemia), and pancreas failure in time. As a result, patients end up taking insulin sooner. What are the alternative diabetic medications to sulfonylureas?

Welcome to @HealthyKidneyInc! In this video I will be tackling a lot of concerns we've been seeing lately around Sodium Bicarbonate, and if it raises blood pressure in Kidney Disease.
It is important to note that sodium bicarbonate is not sodium chloride (your regular table salt you definitely want to stay away from), and therefore is safe to consume with chronic kidney disease and will not have the negative effects of table salt. Studies have suggested that treatment with sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda can help keep kidney disease from getting worse. This helps with the complications in acid levels in the body caused by chronic kidney disease. The recommended dose we suggest is 1-3 pills 650 MG pills a day. Hope this helps! 😃

Solifenacin is a bladder antimuscarinic medication most commonly used for overactive bladder (OAB) with symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, and urge incontinence. Like other agents in its class, understanding the pharmacology can help anticipate potential side effects, drug interactions, and downstream prescribing problems.
Mechanism of Action
Solifenacin selectively blocks muscarinic M3 receptors in the bladder detrusor muscle. Inhibiting these receptors reduces involuntary bladder contractions, increases bladder capacity, and delays the urge to void. While M3 selectivity may theoretically reduce side effects compared to nonselective antimuscarinics, in clinical practice, many anticholinergic effects still occur.
Adverse Effects
Because muscarinic receptors are present throughout the body, solifenacin can lead to a range of anticholinergic adverse effects:
• Dry mouth – among the most common, can be significant enough to cause dental issues with long-term use.
• Constipation – especially problematic in older adults; severe cases may require hospitalization.
• Blurred vision – due to impaired accommodation.
• Cognitive impairment – increased risk in older adults, particularly with cumulative anticholinergic burden.
• Urinary retention – paradoxical worsening in patients with bladder outlet obstruction.
Drug Interactions
• CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) can increase solifenacin plasma concentrations, raising the risk of side effects.
• Other anticholinergics (e.g., diphenhydramine, tricyclic antidepressants, other bladder antimuscarinics) can result in additive toxicity and higher anticholinergic burden.
• QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, certain fluoroquinolones) may have additive cardiac risk since solifenacin has been associated with QT prolongation in rare cases.
Prescribing Cascade Examples
1. Constipation → Laxative initiation – A patient starts solifenacin for OAB and develops severe constipation, leading to chronic use of stimulant laxatives like senna or bisacodyl.
2. Dry mouth → Mouth rinse prescription – Dry mouth is treated with saliva substitutes or prescription rinses, instead of reassessing the anticholinergic therapy.
3. Cognitive decline → Donepezil initiation – In older adults, cognitive impairment may be mistaken for dementia progression, leading to cholinesterase inhibitor prescribing—directly counteracting the anticholinergic effects of solifenacin.
Solifenacin can be an effective treatment for OAB, but the risk of adverse effects and prescribing cascades—especially in older adults—cannot be ignored. Healthcare professionals should regularly review the indication, monitor for anticholinergic burden, and look for opportunities to deprescribe when appropriate.

Learn how OAB medications are thought to work for symptoms of overactive bladder.
With an overactive bladder, your bladder muscle contracts before your bladder expands to its full size, making it work overtime. This can make you feel those frequent urges and leaks you might be experiencing. In other words, your internal plumbing doesn't always work the way it should. OAB medications are thought to work by interacting with natural body chemicals that cause the bladder muscle to contract.
Dr. Kelly L. Reed is a family physician based in Urbandale, Iowa. She treats patients with overactive bladder (OAB), and has a lot of insight to share on ways to manage and treat OAB symptoms, and how to help patients have productive conversations with their doctors. The information provided should not be considered medical advice or diagnosis. This information does not take the place of talking with your doctor about your medical condition or treatment. Dr. Reed has been paid by the sponsors of this YouTube channel.
USE AND DOSE
VESIcare is for overactive bladder with symptoms of urgency, frequency, and leakage. The recommended dose of VESIcare is 5 mg once daily. If the 5-mg dose is well tolerated, your doctor may increase the dose to 10 mg once daily.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
VESIcare is not for everyone. If you have certain stomach or glaucoma problems, or trouble emptying your bladder, do not take VESIcare. VESIcare may cause allergic reactions that may be serious. If you experience swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue, stop taking VESIcare and get emergency help. Tell your doctor right away if you have severe abdominal pain, or become constipated for three or more days. VESIcare may cause blurred vision, so use caution while driving or doing unsafe tasks. Common side effects are dry mouth, constipation, and indigestion.
Please read the Prescribing Information for VESIcare (http://www.astellas.us/docs/vesicare.pdf) and Patient Information (http://vesicare.com/pdf/Patien....t_Information_Leafle
